☀️ Here are 5 effective ways to keep your dogs and cats safe during sunny and hot weather:
1️⃣ Provide Plenty of Shade and Water 💦
Ensure pets always have access to fresh, cool water and shaded areas when outside. Avoid metal bowls that can heat up and burn their tongues.
2️⃣ Avoid Midday Walks or Outdoor Play 🐕🦺
Walk pets early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Hot pavement can burn paw pads and cause overheating.
3️⃣ Never Leave Pets in Parked Cars 🚗
Even with windows cracked, temperatures can soar dangerously high within minutes, putting pets at risk of heatstroke or death.
4️⃣ Watch for Signs of Overheating 🥵
Look for excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or bright red gums. These can indicate heat exhaustion or heatstroke, which require immediate vet attention.
5️⃣ Use Pet-Safe Sunscreen or Protective Gear ☀️
Light-colored or short-haired pets are susceptible to sunburn. Use vet-approved sunscreen or protective clothing, especially for noses, ears, and bellies.
