Is it too hot for a walk? Here’s a quick guide:
🌡 Temperature: Be cautious above 24°C, and avoid walks above 29°C.
🔥Humidity: High humidity makes it harder for dogs to cool down.
♨Pavement Test: If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!
When the heat is on, keeping your dog cool and safe is a top priority.
Discover our “Cool Canine Fun” guide filled with tips and activities to beat the heat. Download your free copy today! https://lauracartercanines.com/cool-canine-fun/

Why Every Dog Should Be Muzzle-Trained...
Muzzle training isn't just for 'bad' dogs—it's for *every* dog. A well-fitted muzzle can be a lifesaver in unexpected situations, like emergencies, vet visits, or when your dog feels stressed or anxious. Just like teaching your dog to sit or stay, muzzle training is about being prepared and responsible.
We need to break the stigma that only aggressive dogs wear muzzles. In reality, a muzzle is a tool, not a label.
It's a sign of a caring owner who's ready for anything and understands their dog's needs. Let's start seeing muzzles for what they really are: a simple way to keep our dogs safe and comfortable in a variety of situations.
Train your dog to wear a muzzle today—it’s a small step that can make a big difference.

Keeping your dog happy and active during those sweltering summer days can be a challenge. When it’s too hot for a walk, you might feel overwhelmed trying to find ways to keep your furry friend entertained and content. It’s easy to worry about your dog feeling bored, restless, or anxious, and you...

👀 Quick question - How do you feel about skipping the walk and playing games with your dog at home instead? 👀
👍 Great, my dog loves playing games at home and doesn't miss the walk at all.
😑 So so, my dog enjoys the games but still misses the walk a bit.
👎 Not good, my dog really needs the walk and gets restless without it.

I wanted to share a bit of our journey with my Dalmatian, Siri. Recently, Siri had to undergo an operation to remove a lump on his chest, and the vet advised 14 days of on-lead exercise only while the wound healed.
Thankfully, we managed well, but it got me thinking about how challenging this could be for others who rely on daily runs to keep their dogs content and healthy.
Every day, dogs undergo surgeries or require their exercise restricted for various reasons—whether it's a planned procedure like neutering, or unexpected situations such as broken bones, cruciate ligament damage, or other health issues. While these operations are essential for our dogs' health and well-being, the recovery period can be tough, both for them and for us as their caregivers.
To help fellow dog owners, I've put together a guide on caring for a dog on restricted exercise. It’s filled with tips on keeping your dog calm, as well as fun games and activities to mentally stimulate them while their body heals.
If you’d like a free copy, just comment 'ME' below. I hope this guide can make things a little easier for anyone going through a similar situation.

Hi, I'm Laura, and I've been training dogs for over 15 years. Last year, I made an exciting move from Kent to Scotland, seeking new adventures and a fresh start. Throughout my career, I've seen how much pressure there is on achieving perfect obedience, but what I truly love is witnessing the joy and fun in the journey of dog and owner bonding.
That's why I decided to specialize in helping dogs and their owners who need alternative ways to spend quality time together when traditional walks aren’t possible. Whether your dog is reactive, recovering from surgery, dealing with the summer heat, or if you’re temporarily out of commission yourself, I have a variety of games and activities to keep your dog entertained and stimulated. My passion for scent work, which I also compete in with my own dogs, often plays a big role in my training sessions.
Last year, I published a book called The Vet Says Rest, and this year I launched my Wags Without Walks membership. It’s been incredibly rewarding to share my knowledge and see the positive impact on so many lives. Though spreading the word about my services has been challenging, the dedication and hard work are worth it when I see happy dogs and their owners thriving together.
On a personal note, my parents and I took a big leap by selling our homes in Kent and buying a beautiful house with 9 acres of land in Scotland. We now have three generations living under one roof, embracing this new chapter of our lives together. While balancing family and work can be tough, I'm driven by my passion for making a difference in the lives of dogs and their owners.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let's continue to celebrate the bond we share with our furry friends and make every moment together count!

🥳 We are still celebrating Dexter and Siri winning reserve in their National Nose work Association scent work trials on Saturday 🥳
2 very different dogs, one handled by myself and one by my autistic daughter, yet they were both able to excel in scent work, really proving that it is a sport suitable for any dog and handler.
Dexter is a 6 year old rescue chihuahua. Siri is a 9 year old dalmatian.
Scent work is a fun and engaging activity where dogs use their incredible sense of smell to locate specific scents. It's an excellent way to stimulate your dog's mind and body, and it's suitable for dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes. Whether you're a seasoned handler or new to the world of canine activities, scent work offers a fantastic opportunity to bond with your dog and develop their natural abilities.
I'm excited to announce that I have beginner workshops coming up soon! For more details and to secure your spot, get in touch with me or visit my website.
Don't miss out on this exciting adventure with your furry friend!

I'll kick things off with mine in the comments 🥰

🐾 Last night, I was watching a TV programme where a child's daily chore was walking the dog round the block.
How times have changed! Walks should be a bonding experience between a dog and their owner, something both look forward to, rather than a chore left to the child of the house. 🐶❤️
If walks aren't a nice experience for you both, don't worry! There are other options, like hiring a private field or playing games in the house or garden.
Are walks with your dog a joy or a household chore the family squabble over doing?
