Hello! Better late than never... Welcome to Lara's Animal Behaviour Services, or, LABs for short.

I am an accredited dog trainer with the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and the ABTC (Animal Behaviour and Training Council). I have a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Wildlife Conservation and currently undertaking a second degree specialising in Canine Behaviour Management.

In my previous career I was a zoo keeper working primarily with large carnivores, but was privileged to spend time working with so many different species. After leaving the zoo world I began a successful pet sitting business, which I run alongside training.

I am passionate about understanding our pets and how we can get the best out of them. I follow a Do No Harm approach to training using kind and fear free methods.

I have a beautiful labrador who I work and train in the gundog field.

know I very rarely post on any social media however, it has been a bit of a crazy summer, full of dogs, DIY and coursework BUT it was a summer where I achieved something pretty huge in the dog training world - I passed my accreditation exams with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT)! 🥳The pet industry as a whole is unregulated and anyone can dog walk, pet sit and call themselves a trainer or behaviourist without any formal qualifications, experience, or knowledge. The APDT is an external regulating body and is often considered the gold standard for dog trainers. The examination process is tough and was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life!! 🤣 I am so proud to be part of the APDT and the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) to help push this country into regulating who cares for our most beloved family members.
Thank you to all the amazing women I've got to know in the last year for all the support, advice, and experiences you've given me to help me along the way! 💗😍🐶🐾

Winston and Gizmo are here for almost 3 weeks. We are loving having them to stay and Elsie has found a new wrestling buddy despite being double her size! This photo cracks me up... everyone doing their thing! 🤣😇🤦‍♀️💩🐶🌞❤️

Harlee and Little Bear (Giant and Mini Shnauszers) came to say the other week. It was a week FULL of energy. The girls all had such a great time, they needed a holiday when Mum got home! 🐕🐶❤️☀️

It's hot out there! An early stroll, lick mats and water play are today's activities. Make sure you are aware of the signs of heatstroke in dogs and keep them cool. Brachycephalic breeds, like Rosie here, really suffer in the heat 🌞🐾🐕

How exciting! A doggie Easter egg hunt is a fabulous way to get their noses working! 🤩❤️🐽🐶

Are you for an eggciting, eggstraordinary, and totally eggcellent doggy Easter shellebration? 🐣

We're having a DOGGY EASTER EGG HUNT in the shop from 10-5:30 on Saturday 8th April!! 🥚🥳 😃

It's free to join and all are welcome - just bring your dog in and let their amazing nose search out the special eggs that will be hiding around the shop. If your dog finds one then bring it to the till and we'll swap it for an eggcellent prize! 🎁

And don't worry if they don't manage to sniff out those pesky hidden eggs, they'll get a little something for taking part 🍪

If you think your dog will like to join in, but is worried by other dogs then let us know and we'll hide some outside in the grass ❤️

Wishing all my furry friends and their wonderful owners a fabulous Christmas and a very Happy New Year! Today marked the end of my dog walking days, saying goodbye to some doggos I've seen nearly every day for 4 years who set me on my path. Time for a change of pace, new experiences and making new furry friends!

Who doesn't LOVE a SNIFFY walk?! Maggie was just loving the time to sniff away on some super exciting smells.

Dogs have over 100 million scent receptors in their noses compared to humans who only have 50 million. Allowing you dog to use it's nose releases oxytocin and helps them take in information about other dogs and the environment. ❤🐕🐾
