As the first week of the summer holidays draws to a close, it has been all go down at the equestrian centre!

We have jet washed, disinfected, and painted our front yard, ready for the ponies to come in from their well deserved weeks holiday, fresh and relaxed ready for the summer fun to begin.

End of Summer Show ☀️🏇

Join us to test your equestrian skills at our end-of-summer show, where we will offer a variety of classes for everyone to participate in!

Whether it's Handy Pony, In-hand Best Fancy Dress, In-hand Best in Show, Dressage, Show Jumping, or Cross Country, come along for a day filled with fun.

Class Entry Prices:
- Class 1 best home made hobby horse
This class is for ridden horses only; no unbroken or unruly young stock allowed. It's open to all ages and abilities, so get ready, fellow horse enthusiasts! £1 per entry rosette and Haribo given for all entries of this class.

- Class 2 in Hand Best Fancy Dress £10
- Class 3 in Hand Best in Show £10

For classes 2 and 3, prices are charged per person with a maximum of 2 people per pony.

One Day Event Classes:
- Class 4 Handy pony, dressage (Abbotsholme 1), poles- up to 40cm £30
- Class 5 dressage (intro A), show jumping up to 50cm, cross country £40
- Class 6 dressage( intro B), show jumping up to 60cm, cross country £40
- Class 7 dressage (prelim 2), show jumping up to 70cm, cross country £40
- Class 8 dressage (prelim 14), show jumping 80 - 100cm, cross country £40

You can enter all dressage and show jumping classes separately if you prefer not to participate in all three phases of the one-day event classes, each at a cost of £15 per class.

This summer, we will be offering progressive training sessions with Tia Lewis, our Stage 4 eventing coach. These sessions will cover all three disciplines: dressage, show jumping, and cross country.

The Dressage includes:
- Test riding practice at intro or prelim
- Scales of training
- How to ride each movement actually to enhance your marks
- What the judges are looking for

Showjumping includes:
- Course practice
- How to warm up for a showjumping competition
- How to walk your showjumping course
- Maintaining a rhythm and balance round a course

Cross country includes:
- How to hold a line
- How to approach a fence on an angle
- The different gears involved with in cross country riding
- Rider position

All sessions are geared towards our end-of-summer show, providing an opportunity to compete in all three disciplines. These sessions are open to anyone looking to enhance their riding skills.

- 10% discount on your entry for the end-of-summer show when you attend all three sessions

Introducing Altas! 🐴

Atlas joined Abbotsholme over the weekend on working livery. He is a 13.2hh Welsh cross and is 15 years old. Atlas has experienced it all - cross country, show jumping, dressage, fun rides, hunting, hacking - you name it, he's done it!

Atlas is excited to join in all our summer activities once his trial period is complete. Here's to Atlas and a summer full of equestrian fun!

Are you looking to enhance your CV, or expand your equestrian expertise? If so, join us for our BHS Challenge Awards training this summer.

"About your horse" training will take place on Wednesdays mornings, 9.30am - 12.30pm with our BHS coach, Lizzie Walsh.

This course is ideal for new and soon-to-be horse or pony owners, providing essential horse care knowledge. Completing both awards grants direct entry into the BHS Stage 2 Care and Lunge exams.

Bronze -3 sessions £110

Introducing Rolo, our latest addition who is on working livery!

Rolo is 12.2 HH 9 years old, liver chestnut Welsh A. He is super on and off the lead rein, has done XC and loves to jump! Amazing to hack alone and in company, Rolo has been shown and behaves impeccably!

Rolo has done fun rides and beach rides and we are looking forward to having lots of fun with him, as we welcome him to the equestrian centre!

Last week, we had a successful combined training day with our coach, Tia Lewis, featuring dressage, cross-country, and showjumping. Participants also practiced plaiting up with a trot up in front of the school. Everyone performed admirably and enjoyed the day.

May Half Term Own a Pony Day 🐴

Our pupils, along with some new faces, had a fantastic time during last week's Own a Pony Day. They braved the wind and rain to enjoy a day of riding, treat-making, grooming, and learning about horse anatomy.

Our 50m x 30m all weather arena is available for hire, offering a fantastic space for riders during school hours, after-school, Sundays and during the holiday breaks.

Riding lessons in the sunshine earlier this week ☀️

Isla and Holly enjoyed a lovely lesson in the sunshine, working on positional corrections through transitions without their stirrups. Both girls did very well, and displayed very good knowledge of what corrections they felt needed to be made.

Amazing riding from both girls and ponies, enjoying their time in the sun.

Combine Training Day with Tia Lewis ✨🏇

Tia Lewis is an event rider and coach from Derbyshire, having evented to intermediate/3* on her own ex racehorse, which she has retrained herself straight form the racing stables.

Medium level BD and 1.20m BS, Tia is a BHS senior stage 4 eventing coach and coaches a variety of different clients, ranging from novice and nervous, performance, retraining ex racehorses and producing young horses.

She works by developing systems which are individualised for horse and rider, which in turn, builds confidence and gains results.
She has been very fortunate to have received mentorship and training from world class coaches.

The day will have options of a dressage lesson on grass with a 20 X 40 dressage boarded arena, with the ability to run through a dressage test of your choosing.

Showjumping will be course jumping, where you will work on a variety of techniques, finishing with jumping a compete course.
Cross country will be working on accuracy and how to hold a line over a variety of different profile jumps.

The day will start at 10am till 4pm and is £50. Limited spaces available. Contact Saffron on [email protected]

Congratulations to our Y10 pupils, who have passed their BHS Silver Ride Safe Challenge Award this week!

By completing this award, our young riders have:
✨ Gained the confidence and skills to ride safely on and off the road
✨ Learnt about the checks required before setting off on their ride
✨ Learnt how to communicate with other road users
✨ Gained understanding on how to ride in an enclosed arena with other rides
✨ Learnt how to ride with the reins in one hand
✨ The knowledge on planning routes and preparing themselves and their horse
✨ The ability to perform an emergency dismount and remount
✨ Learnt about potential hazards they may meet when riding and how to pass them safely

May Half Term Equestrian Events ☀️ Our equestrian centre offers a full week of activities for you to enjoy this half term!

We are very excited to announce that Tia Lewis, our stage 4 coach will be joining us during half term for a Combine Training Day. Tina will be coaching pupils, practising dressage, showjumping and cross country techniques, style and accuracy.

Our lovely horses are basking in the sunshine following their successful annual vet inspection ☀️

Their passing ensures our continued standing as a 5-star equestrian establishment and an approved centre by the British Horse Society.

Over the weekend, Holly and her horse, Simba, went to their first British Showjumping Stay Away at Onley. Holly was placed 2nd, 3rd and 6th over the course of the weekend and jumped 3 double clear.

A huge congratulations to Finley, who, over the weekend competed with his horse Rodney, at the Kensal International Horse Trials, finishing 4th with a dressage score of 26 in the BE90 ✨

Finley was up against some strong competition, but demonstrated exceptional talent and determination, earning a well-deserved place. This is a huge achievement for Finley and Rodney and we could not be prouder of them both.

Well done, Finley!
