Derek the border terrier, a before and after of his handstrip today. Did you know border terriers have a wire coat, and to keep the richness of their colour and coat texture we use a process called hand-stripping. Hand stripping is the process of removing excess dead topcoat, leaving room for the new coat to grow and giving a more natural look. It keeps the dog's coat tidy and healthy, leaving it strong and shiny. It is done by plucking/pulling the hairs out in the direction of growth.

🐾📚 This week at Crazy Tails Grooming Academy, our students had to focus on a crucial aspect of pet grooming: dealing with a matted dog.
Unfortunately, matted fur is a common issue, often resulting from neglect over time. Our future groomers learned how to handle these cases with care and compassion, helping both dogs and their owners overcome these challenges. 🐶✂️

Mats can form for several reasons, including infrequent brushing, shedding, and even certain breeds being more prone to matting. When a dog’s fur gets matted, it can cause discomfort, skin irritation, and even restrict movement. As groomers, our job is to gently and skillfully remove these mats, providing relief to the dog and educating owners on how to prevent future matting.

At Crazy Tails, we approach each case with understanding and patience, knowing that seeking our help is the first step towards a healthier, happier pet. Our goal is to advise owners on proper grooming practices and regular maintenance to keep their furry friends mat-free. 🐕❤️
