Our November and December dates for group retrieving sessions are now full.
Handlers training with DogwerX get first opportunities for a place, as they are advertised on our group training page first.
The new year will see group sessions for dogs and handlers who need a little more work on their retrieves,
And hopefully a group for those starting out with gundog retrieves.

DogwerX trainees Lottie and Rudi attended the Natural Aptitude Test organised by the Large Munsterlander Club. Both dogs achieving higher than the standards required in many aspects of the tests.

Massive well done to Skye, a 1st and 2nd place in the junior handler gundog scurry on the Bales for seen and blind retrieves,
and also to Sid who was 2nd in the multi pick up scurry, at the Cheshire Game Fair over the weekend.

Say hello to Kevin, a handsome yellow labrador, a youngster, full of life and a boisterous boy, had very little off lead time as he is a friendly dog typical of the breed wants to be everyone's best mate.
His first session with DogwerX and he was a superstar, lots of focus with his handler, nose touches to give a target, increased his Sit with 3Ds, (duration, distance and distractions), and he was a natural retriever, his owner now has a plan going forward and this young lad gets to have lots of breed appropriate training, meaning mental and physical needs are met.
Well done Niamh and Kevin 😀👏👏👏

Yes a cocker really can walk nicely on a lead, 💪
If you are struggling with your lead work, visit a trainer, get some techniques, and practice, practice, practice it really does pay off.

This is a video from Scouts handler,
Working on cues at a distance,
The retrieve dummy is behind him, so his handler gives him a cue to Go Back, (to turn around and go further away...)
His handler adds in a couple of extra cues to give him confidence he is doing what she wants.
Speedy pick up, and straight return with a nice delivery to hand.
The other benefit of this exercise is that Scout is sitting a good distance and building duration and confidence to remain in the sit as his handler has walked away.
Fabulous work for a young cocker, and a new to gundog training handler.

Weather is forecast to be warm for next few days, and hopefully summer has finally arrived, these pups were keeping cool with a splash in the pool.
Don't forget to take water on your walks, use shaded areas more, walk in woodlands and places with water where they can have a paddle or swim.
Walk earlier and later to avoid the heat of the day, have somewhere cool at home they can relax..
Also remember not to leave your dog in the car in summer months, and if stuck in traffic remember your dog in the back could overheat without the aircon on.

Summer is the time for Gundog Working Tests, if you have been training your gundogs to retrieve dummies, maybe you are interested in entering a test, there are events for Spaniels, Retrievers and HPR breeds that are registered with the Kennel Club. Plus some charity events and scurries that allow all breeds to have a go.

Training really does pay off... off lead heel, and delivery to hand...
Scout is a typical Working Cocker Spaniel ..go, go, go.... but training and the opportunity to use his natural instincts means we get lots of calm concentration too.
