Evie was found in the road, having been hit by a car in Romania. She was taken to the vet who gave her painkillers and had to amputate her damaged paw. She was there for 14 days and they told the rescuers that she would now be fine, and was ready to be adopted. She came home to the UK 10th November, and immediately I could see that something wasn't right. There was a racid smell coming from her fo
ot, and a small brown rotten lump, the size of a thumbnail, was literally hanging off by a thread. I took her to my vet, Park Veterinary Centre, Watford, who confirmed that it was badly infected. He gave her a strong shot of antibiotics, but advised that the whole leg would need to be amputated from the hip. The reason being, that as it's still long enough to use, she would try and the continued pressure and rubbing would cause constant pain and infections. It's common practise in the UK to remove the entire limb for this reason, and he was sad and frustrated that the original vet had not done this. So here we are, she's just arrived in a new home, trying to settle in and recover from her ordeal, and she needs another operation! She's a very young adult, probably barely one year old, and she's already been through so much.
