Owners are often hesitant to use NSAIDs due to publicity regarding potential side-effects, and will seek alternative options for pain control. CAM fully supports their choice as long as the treatment chosen offers effective pain control to that dog. We strongly suggest using a means of measuring pain before the treatment and after to ensure the goals of using it are met.

😲 Did you know that boredom is really bad for pain?!

Human patients living with diseases like arthritis that cause chronic pain are encouraged to take up a hobby because doing something you enjoy can distract you from feeling pain and also release endorphins, which can temporarily damped pain signals. 👍

The same is true for our dogs!

A lot of older dogs may be left to sit at home in their bed with little to occupy them and this boredom leads to feeling more pain!! 😢

Something as simple as an enrichment or feeding toy can make a big difference to these dogs.

Fantastic first session today with this gentle giant! He is a lovely boy who is suffering from lameness in his back leg. Hopefully on the road to feeling better 🐕

Last week, when the weather was certainly different, I saw Mr Wallace for a lame shoulder. We worked on it with massage, stretching exercises and some ice therapy. I saw him today and he is much better which is the best bit about this job. Such a lovely boy ❤️

Today was a busy day for Healing Paws with visits to Mr Wallace the Dalmatian who is feeling much better, Mr Jasper the Cocker Spaniel who I haven’t seen since lockdown began and was feeling a little stiff and finally Mrs Murphie who is feeling better today after no sessions during lockdown! Here she is enjoying her session!

Today I got to see my lovely Max again! I haven’t seen Max since before lockdown when he had not long had a cruciate ligament repair. His rehab has been delayed and there has been some muscle wastage but a combination of remedial massage rehab and hydro he will be back to his strong self soon! Max has been having treatments for around 7 years so his body is coping well with this recent surgery. He is a wonderful boy and a pleasure to work with!

Today’s session in the sunshine for Mr Wallace! He is suffering with spasms in his back and tension in his shoulders and hips. Mr Wallace has fortnightly treatments and his human can tell when I am due to come due to intermittent lameness. He is a wonderful boy and is very sweet how he is so pleased to see me when I visit!

Fabulous sessions with Mr Darcey and Mr Bingley this afternoon! Darcey suffers from shoulder lameness and stiffness which results in limping so treatments help him stay more comfortable and help with mobility. Mr Bingley is an older gentleman and following cruciate ligament repair a few years ago has treatments to help prevent the onset of arthritis and help him keep his able to enjoy his walks and jump in the car! Both just the loveliest boys!! 🐶 🐶💙💙

Munch is a Staffie across who suffers from some sniffness and tension in her older years. She is such a special girl and loves her treatments just as much as I love giving them to her.

Lovely session today with Harvey the Lab. Harvey has a back problem and as a result as instability and trouble with his mobility in his back legs. His fortnightly sessions help with his mobility and also to keep his front legs in the best condition due to him overcompensating with them. He is a lovely boy and a pleasure to treat.

Today Mr Wallace had a very much needed treatment for a lot of tension in his back. He had been standing awkwardly and seemed uncomfortable. He has a treatment monthly for pain in his back and hips but today’s aches and pains were in different places than normally! He relaxed into his treatment and it seems to have eased. Such a lovely boy!

My lovely client Donut the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog after being rudely awoken after falling asleep in her massage but soon went back for a post-treatment snooze! Donut has had cruciate ligament repair, has hip dysplasia and is an older lady. Donut has fortnightly treatments to help with her conditions and arthritis from them, help with mobility and generally help with any aches and pains.

Fab session with Dodge! He’s a young GSD but very active with potential dog sport careers ahead of him so making sure he stays in the fit and helping him with some conditioning for a leg that he doesn’t use as equally as the others. Great work Dodge!

It’s gonna be a warm one today! ☀️ Please remember to be careful with dogs today! They can’t take their coat off!

- Try and walk them early or later this evening.

- Stick to shady areas. Woods are ideal.

- Carry some water with you.

- Do not feed them a meal an hour before or after exercise to help prevent Bloat as Twisted Gut.

- But do HAVE FUN and ENJOY!

Good News! Following Government Guidelines and Advice for Industry Governing Bodies I am able to offer treatments for existing clients again! These will need to be done outside in a clients garden so will be weather dependant but I can't wait to see all my doggie clients again! Let's pray for Sunshine! ☀️
