It’s never too early to start proprioception training! 🐾 Meet puppy Ronnie, who’s already learning the ropes with his big sister, Dolly! Together, they’re mastering the “on it” command, which is an essential building block for Ronnie’s future training.

Proprioception exercises, like wobble cushion work, are a fantastic way to warm up before activities, strengthen muscles, and improve balance and coordination. These exercises help both puppies and adults become more aware of their bodies in space, enhancing performance in all physical activities.

Starting with simple steps like these lays the foundation for better body control and prevents injury as they grow. Whether you’re just beginning or advancing, proprioception work is a key element of any training routine. 🐕‍🦺

I’ll be here every 3 weeks, working to restore comfort and improve the quality of life for these incredible animals. 🐕🐾

Meet Lassie! 🐾 This sweet 12-year-old rescue girl started showing signs of slowing down—hesitating to jump into the car and not following her owner off the sofa. After a physical examination, we found she’s dealing with an iliopsoas muscle strain and some sore neck muscles.

The iliopsoas muscle plays a key role in a dog’s mobility. It’s responsible for flexing the hip and allowing movement like walking, running, and jumping. This muscle can get injured from overuse, sudden movements, or repetitive strain, causing stiffness and discomfort.

We’ve started Lassie on a treatment plan including Red Light Phototherapy, which promotes healing by increasing circulation and reducing inflammation, Massage to relax the muscle and improve flexibility, and Therapeutic Ultrasound to pe*****te deep tissue and speed up recovery. Lassie was such a good girl during her treatments, giving us happy grunty noises to show she was loving it! 😊

For home care, Lassie’s homework includes heat therapy, which helps increase blood flow to the injured muscle, speeding up the healing process. As you can see, she doesn’t refuse it! 🐶❤️

Who’s your therapist?

Meet me, Faye! 🐾

I’ve been a veterinary nurse for over 18 years 🩺, with more than 10 of those years specialising in orthopaedics 🦴. After qualifying, I earned an Advanced Nursing Diploma in anaesthesia, radiology, and surgery 🏥, expanding my skills to provide the best possible care for animals.

I’ve always loved my career, and it was my own dog’s battle with arthritis 🐕‍🦺 that truly fueled my passion for mobility restoration. Watching her struggle with osteoarthritis and seeing the incredible difference physiotherapy and other therapies made in restoring her mobility inspired me to pursue a Diploma in Physiotherapy 🎓. This led me to set up Faye’s 4 Paws Physio 🐾. I’m proud to combine my veterinary nursing background with my physiotherapy knowledge to offer a unique, holistic approach to pet rehabilitation.

When I’m not working, I’m a busy mum to a young family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. I enjoy dog training 🐶, agility 🏃‍♀️, and taking camping trips 🏕️ with my family and dogs, embracing every opportunity to spend time outdoors and keep active with my furry companions.

Meet Teddy! 🐾 Today, I had the privilege of treating this happy boy. Teddy had a cruciate ligament rupture and underwent a surgery called Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). This procedure changes the angle of the tibial plateau, which helps stabilise the knee joint and prevent further damage, keeping Teddy’s knee strong and functional.

However, after his injury, Teddy also developed a severe iliopsoas injury. The iliopsoas is a group of muscles that assist with hind limb movement, and when injured or under strain, it can cause pain and neurological symptoms, making it difficult for him to move comfortably.

Thanks to the dedication of Teddy’s amazing owners and a personalised physiotherapy plan—including red phototherapy, therapeutic ultrasound, massage, and exercise prescription—we’ve been able to get his symptoms under control. Now, he’s leading a pain-free, active life again. 🐕💪

And I can’t forget to mention, every time I see Teddy, he’s ALWAYS so excited to see me! It’s a reminder of how rewarding this journey has been. Now, I continue to see him regularly to help maintain his progress and keep him feeling great.

🌟 Red Light Therapy for Animal Physiotherapy: Natural Healing Power! 🌟

Red light therapy is a powerful, non-invasive treatment that’s revolutionising recovery for both pets and humans. It helps speed up healing from injuries and conditions like:
1. Muscle Strains & Sprains – Accelerates recovery by reducing pain and inflammation.
2. Arthritis & Joint Pain – Increases circulation and reduces swelling for improved mobility.
3. Post-Surgery Recovery – Enhances tissue repair and minimises discomfort after procedures.
4. Soft Tissue Injuries – Promotes healing in muscles, ligaments, tendons, and other soft tissues.
5. Chronic Pain – Stimulates natural pain relief and boosts healing for ongoing discomfort.

By boosting cellular energy, improving circulation, stimulating collagen production, and reducing pain, red light therapy helps pets recover faster and live more comfortably. 🐾💡

🐾 Caring for Your Dog’s Joints This Winter 🐾

As the colder months roll in, arthritis can be especially tough on our furry friends. But with the right care, we can help them stay comfortable and active! Here are some tips to support your dog’s joints during the winter:

1. Heat Therapy 🔥: A warm blanket or heated pad can help soothe stiff joints and improve blood circulation. Just ensure it’s not too hot and always check the temperature to keep them safe.

2. Gentle Exercise 🏃‍♂️: Keep your dog moving with light, regular exercise. Short walks and indoor play help maintain joint mobility without overloading them.

3. Physiotherapy Sessions 🧑‍⚕️: A trained canine physiotherapist can work with your dog to improve joint function and relieve pain. These sessions may include:
• Massage Therapy to reduce muscle tension and improve circulation.
• Range-of-Motion Exercises to help maintain joint flexibility and prevent stiffness.
• Cold Laser Therapy for pain relief and inflammation reduction.
• Hydrotherapy in a warm pool, which supports joints while giving them a low-impact workout.

4. Joint Supplements 💊: Ask your vet about glucosamine and chondroitin supplements to help support your dog’s joint health and reduce inflammation.

5. Comfortable Bedding 🛏: Make sure your dog has a supportive, soft bed to rest on—especially if they have trouble getting up from harder surfaces.

6. Weight Management ⚖️: Keeping your dog at a healthy weight helps reduce strain on their joints. Proper diet and regular, gentle exercise can make all the difference!

If you notice your dog’s arthritis worsening in the colder weather, a vet check-up and physiotherapy sessions can provide valuable relief. Let’s keep our furry friends moving and feeling their best all year long! ❄️🐾

🐾 Even Beagles can do physiotherapy! 🐾🐶💪🏻

Canine physiotherapy is a powerful tool to help dogs build strength, improve balance, and regain mobility. Through exercise prescription, we can focus on muscle strengthening, enhance proprioception (body awareness), and support core stability—key elements that help dogs move better and reduce the risk of injury.

Whether it’s recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition like arthritis, or simply improving overall fitness, these targeted exercises can make a real difference in your dog’s quality of life.

Physiotherapy isn’t just about recovery—it’s about helping dogs live more comfortably and with greater freedom of movement.🐾

🐾 Canine Iliopsoas Injury: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment 🐾

The iliopsoas muscle group is essential for your dog’s hip movement, helping them walk, run, and jump with ease. When strained, this muscle can cause pain, limping, and difficulty moving. 🐕

👉 Why does iliopsoas strain happen?
Iliopsoas injuries often result from overexertion, sudden movements, or repetitive stress, like jumping or sprinting. However, they can also develop as a secondary issue due to underlying hip or stifle (knee) problems. When a dog compensates for pain or weakness in these joints, it can put extra strain on the iliopsoas muscles, leading to injury.

🔧 How physiotherapy helps:
Physiotherapy plays a vital role in recovery and includes:
• Stretching & strengthening exercises to improve muscle flexibility and support
• Manual therapy to reduce muscle tightness and improve joint mobility
• Photobiomodulation (PBM), or light therapy, helps accelerate tissue healing and reduce inflammation
• Ultrasound therapy increases circulation, promotes deep tissue healing, and relaxes tense muscles

These treatments help relieve pain, enhance recovery, and prevent the injury from recurring—getting your dog back to their best self sooner!

If your dog shows signs of limping or stiffness, or has a history of hip or knee problems, physiotherapy can be key in preventing further complications. 🐶❤️

🎄 Christmas has come early at Faye’s 4 Paws Physio! 🎄

I’m excited to announce the arrival of my brand-new laser therapy system! ✨🐾

How does laser therapy work?
Laser therapy uses focused light to pe*****te deep into tissues, stimulating healing at the cellular level. It boosts circulation, reduces inflammation, and speeds up tissue repair — all without the need for invasive procedures.

The benefits of laser therapy include:
✅ Pain relief – Great for arthritis, injuries, and inflammation.
✅ Faster healing – Helps speed up recovery from surgery or trauma.
✅ Reduced inflammation – Ideal for managing swelling, especially in chronic conditions.
✅ Improved mobility – Eases discomfort in joints and muscles, so your pet can move freely again.

If your pet could use some extra care and comfort this Christmas, book a session today and let laser therapy work its magic! 🎁🐶🐱

🐾 Dolly’s Story 🐾

Meet Dolly, a 10.5-year-old Cocker Spaniel. From a young age, Dolly faced challenges—diagnosed with hip dysplasia and needing knee surgery for a slipping patella. As she got older, elbow dysplasia joined the mix. Despite the hurdles, she powered through and continued her agility career, showing incredible resilience. 💪

But more recently, things took a turn. CT scans revealed severe arthritis in her hips and elbows, and there was a time when even a 10-minute walk caused her excruciating pain, despite multiple painkillers. We honestly feared we’d never see the same lively, happy dog again. 😢

Fast forward six months… After undergoing Stem Cell therapy, intensive physiotherapy, and making some home modifications, Dolly is back! She’s back to her normal exercise routine (with a little extra support on an extendable lead), down to just one painkiller, and still occasionally visiting her agility friends for some on-lead fun. 🐾✨

We are beyond thrilled to have our happy, healthy pup back—and we truly believe that with the right care and treatment, golden oldies can thrive again! If you have a senior dog struggling with arthritis, please reach out. I would love to help! 💖
