Isabell Werth and Apache

Apache was a 1993 born Oldenburg gelding by Alabaster out of Chromatik (by Grundstein I x Colorado I). Standing 1.83m, Apache made his Grand Prix debut in 2001 and booked 80 victories in his career (S-level to Grand Prix). He won more than 200,000 euro in prize money in his career.

Apache was originally owned by Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer Sr, but when Werth went to ride for Madeleine Winter-Schulze, the renowned sponsor acquired the gelding for her.

At the end of his career, Apache served as schoolmaster for Werth's assitant trainer Matthias Bouten. In 2009 the gelding suffered from lyme disease and he was retired from competition at age 17 in 2010.

Waidmannsdank – Thoroughbred sire…

Akzent II was prized for carrying on the ‘type’ of the Trakehner Absatz: a noble head and appealing face, ideal neck and saddle position and a good shoulder, combined with soft-to-the-ground way of going. His dam was by the Thoroughbred, Waidmannsdank, who was one of the most influential Thoroughbreds of the post-war period in Hanover. He was for many years the leading Thoroughbred sire of licensed stallions and head stud book mares, and second only to Der Löwe as a Thoroughbred sire of competition horses.

Benicio and Anna Fiebelkorn, 2011Bundeschampions

In October 2007, the stud, Callaho, traveled to the Hanoverian stallion licensing in Germany to find a Bellisimo M c**t with which to bolster their dressage breeding program having been extremely impressed by the sons and track record of this exciting sire. At his 30-day stallion performance test in Zweibrucken (2002), Bellisimo cast a shadow over his peers with a final dressage score of 9.63, the highest ever awarded to a stallion at the time. He then went on to win the 4yr old Bundeschampionate in Warendorf. His first foal crop yielded eleven licensed sons and the reserve and champion mares at the German nationals.

Licensing Champion by Benicio x Don Diamond sold for a whopping 630,000 euros at the 2021 German Sport Horse Stallion Licensing.

After 3 days of rigorous screening in Verden, Callaho settled on catalogue No 3, a liver chestnut with flashy white markings. Although still immature, they were convinced by Benicio's excellent basic paces and an exemplary, if unfashionable, dam-line. His mother, St.Pr.Valencia, was reserve champion mare in Germany in 2002 and also produced the champion foal (Benicio's full brother) of the German Foal Championships. Damsire, Velten Third, was an International dressage competitor himself and his sire in turn, Velten Sohn, was the most successful dressage stallion of his day and competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

After his licensing, Benicio was taken to South Africa. Two years later, however, having been convinced by the high quality of his foals and his extraordinary potential for advanced level dressage, Callaho returned him to Germany to be professionally trained by Anna-Sofie Fiebelkorn for sport and to earn his full breeding approval for the Hanoverian Studbook.

The rest is History. This remarkable partnership elevated Benicio out of nowhere to win the 2011 German Bundeschampionate for the six year old dressage horses and the Stallion Performance Test at Schliekau with perfect 10's for walk, trot and canter. His final score for the dressage section, 9.88, superseded even that of his father and is the highest score ever achieved in the history of the stallion performance test. With these scores, combined with his faultless rideability and character, this incomparable stallion has captivated the European dressage and breeding community.

Akzent II

Akzent II was bred by Joachim Kemmer, who is the father of Heike, a rider on the German dressage team. Initially, he stood at the family farm, Amselhof, and later was leased to the Celle State stud in Altenbruch before arriving at Ludwig Kathmann's Oldenburg stallion station in 1985.

Akzent II was celebrated for embodying the characteristics of the Trakehner Absatz, featuring a distinguished head and charming face, an ideal neck and saddle position, and a well-formed shoulder, all while moving with a soft, ground-covering stride. His dam was sired by the Thoroughbred Waidmannsdank, a significant figure among Thoroughbreds in post-war Hanover. For many years, he was the top Thoroughbred sire for licensed stallions and head stud book mares, ranking just behind Der Löwe as a sire of competition horses.

Akzent II achieved impressive scores for both type and rideability, which comes as no surprise. In the 2002 Hanoverian Stallion Yearbook, his type score was an impressive 144, placing him in the top ten based on studbook evaluations, while he received a rideability score of 134 from the mare performance tests. Although his dressage score in these tests was 112, it still surpassed his jumping score of 101. His FN rankings stood at 116 for dressage and 100 for jumping.

By 2002, Akzent II had sired 747 competition horses that collectively earned DM1,183,852. His standout competitor was Amazonas, who triumphed in the German Dressage Derby with Karin Schlüter in 1987, amassing winnings of DM98,623. Close behind was Isabell Werth’s Agnelli FRH, who won the Otto Lorke prize for Grand Prix horses under 10 years in 2000, with total earnings of DM95,185 by 2002.

Additionally, Akzent II was the father of eleven licensed sons.

Absatz
Abglanz had a significant impact in Hanover, particularly through his son Absatz. Absatz was born from the Hanoverian mare Landmoor, who has a lineage that includes the renowned English Thoroughbred, Perfectionist xx, on her sire's side, and the Shagya stallion Shagya XVII-12, who arrived at Trakehnen in 1925, on her dam's side. Absatz went on to sire notable stallions such as Argentan,

Arsenik, Akzent I and II, Admiral I and II, Aktuell, and Aderla. In total, he produced 40 Approved sons, 605 competition horses, and 142 horses that were sold at the Verden auction. Thanks to the wonders of frozen semen, Absatz was able to sire foals even after his passing, and there are whispers that a vintage supply of his semen is still stored at Celle.

His modern legacy is perhaps most prominently represented by Weltmeyer, who is out of Anka, a mare by Absatz. In a 2000 interview, Dr. Burchard Bade, who served as assistant to Dr. von Stenglin from 1973 to 1979 and then as the director of the stud from 1979 to 2007, reflected on the most influential stallions during his tenure, paying homage to the refugees from the East.

“We must say that there has been a very big influence of the Trakehner horses, that, and the selection of our broodmares. Our brood mares went from 34,000 in 1947, to 1960 when we had 4,000 broodmares, that is a big opportunity for selection, to get rid of the old types, and during that time we had the very good chance to use the Trakehner stallion, Abglanz and his son, Absatz and the grandsons, and great-grandsons. They had a very big influence on the ‘type’ of the Hanoverian horse, and in riding quality as well – although in Hanover, I think we had good quality in riding horses before then, but to better the type, the Trakehner horses were very important. In Celle in 1949, there arrived 39 Trakehnen stallions from eastern Prussia.”

Abhang II Produced Great Dressage Horses

At the stallion station in Jork, Abglanz was responsible for the production of three notable brothers: Abhang I, II, and III, along with their full sister, Zukunft, who achieved international success in competition alongside Alwin Schockemöhle. Standing at just 160 cm, Abhang I was known for producing elegant horses, although they did not achieve significant performance accolades. Abhang II, the smallest of the trio at 157 cm, excelled in producing exceptional dressage horses characterized by their charm and movement. Abhang III, being the tallest, primarily sired showjumpers. In total, Abglanz sired 19 approved sons, with his progeny accumulating earnings exceeding DM324,000.

Abglanz and his offspring are recognized for significantly enhancing the head and neck conformation of Hanoverian horses. Throughout his breeding career in Celle, where he served the Hanoverian broodmare population, his impact on the Trakehner studbook was somewhat limited, resulting in only nine registered Trakehner daughters and three Trakehner sons: Kassio, Morgenglanz, and Valentin.

Apache is a strong and agile stallion, renowned for his exceptional hind leg, and is actively competing in grand prix dressage events.

Apache exemplified the pinnacle of contemporary KWPN breeding, recognized for his exceptional movement, strong hind leg, and remarkable suppleness throughout his physique. He sired outstanding foals with a striking modern conformation, demonstrating impressive athleticism.

Performance - He commenced his career as the reserve champion at his KWPN licensing and made his international grand prix debut in December 2015, achieving scores of over 73% in the straight test and over 76% in the freestyle. Since that time, he has maintained his presence at the grand prix level, attaining scores exceeding 75% in a World Cup qualifier.

Sire - The pedigree of Apache significantly contributed to his success as a sport horse, featuring eight Grand Prix horses within the first five generations. His sire, UB40, is a modern, elongated stallion often utilized to enhance the refinement of more traditional mares, a characteristic that also applies to Apache. UB40 was the reserve champion of his performance test in 2002 and has secured multiple victories at the international Prix St. Georges level. He is also the sire of the licensed stallion El Capone, whose damsire is OO Seven. UB40's sire, Olivi, is a grand prix and keur stallion descended from the renowned Jazz, tracing back to the Utopia mare line. UB40's dam, the state premium mare Kilucienne, is by the influential Trakehner Michaelangelo and is out of a daughter of the KWPN foundation stallion, Farn.

Damline - The elite mare Tolanda serves as Apache’s dam. She is a progeny of the dynamic grand prix competitor, Krack C, and descends from a daughter of the long-standing FEI competitor, Inspekteur. This mare line has produced numerous top-tier sport and breeding horses.

Progeny - Over the last five KWPN stallion shows, several of Apache's offspring have been selected for performance testing. His foal report indicates that his foals exhibit a consistent riding type, are well-developed, possess a good rectangular conformation, and feature an attractive front. Their trot demonstrates good scope with a notable bend in the joints, while their canter is characterized by ease, good ground coverage, and balance.

Apache is the sire of Indian Rock, the champion of the 2016 KWPN licensing, out of a mare by Vivaldi. Judges have consistently awarded Apache a score of 10 for his trot and hind leg usage, traits he reliably transmits to his progeny. Other notable offspring include the licensed stallion Grand Galaxy Win and Gio, who achieved a score of over 79% at his grand prix debut under Charlotte Dujardin
