Desensitising Nova around live stock 🙌🏼
With Cosmo, we were so lucky, he wouldn’t even acknowledge sheep, (worst sheep dog in history)
HOWEVER, Nova showed interest in them since day one, when she was first around sheep, she would bark as she was unsure what they were, then as she got more confident she started to pull and try and go over to them. 🫠
Now, after lots of time and training, look at her, not interested in the slightest as she knows that I’m the better alternative and much more fun!

IMPULSE CONTROL 💪🏻
I have been working on Novas impulse control since a puppy, and it’s safe to say she is definitely getting it 😆🙌🏼
Impulse control is a fun way to help mentally stimulate your dog, but also a great way of training to ignore distractions 👏🏻

MULTI-DOG HOUSE HOLDS 🐕🦮🐕🦺
People used to ask me why I walked my dogs separately most the time❓
The answer is, if your dog or dogs have separate behavioural issues, it is impossible to focus on one dog at a time, when you have multiple dogs.
For example, Nova is a puppy, she had no idea what lead pressure was, or how to act in busy environments. If we just expected her to walk to heel, and act nicely on walks, this would of became really stressful and unfair on Nova!
We work with Nova separately to achieve better behaviour! Now she is able to do this, I do tend to walk them together 🦮
However, that doesn’t mean I never walk them separately. I do this as they both have different needs & interests, it’s give them that 1 on 1 time and to enforce training with them both separately 😌
So, what I’m trying to say is, if you have multiple dogs, with different needs/issues and you feel like your struggling to walk/train them, then do it separately you will see faster results, you will be less stressed which will mean your dog will be less stressed and will achieve more 👏🏻

Today I had an extreme puller, (as you can see the blisters on my hand in the last video 🤣) he is also over stimulated and reactive to cars.Today, we practiced lead pressure and slowed the walk down! 🦮We also worked on his reactivity towards cars, normally he would lunge towards cars, which is very dangerous for obvious reasons! We are changing Angus’ emotional response towards cars, which will also help him become less stimulated on walks😌Still work to be put in but definitely a step in the right direction for Angus and his owners! 💪🏻🐶I apologise for my content, it’s so hard to film and work 🤣 #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogtrainingtips #reactivedog #dog #doglover

A lot of my clients want their dogs to sit when crossing roads. 🦮To achieve this, you need to use a command that means stop whatever they are doing and sit, so for example, I use the command ‘stop’ 🙅🏼♀️✋As you can see, when I use the command stop, Nova stops and sits and doesn’t move again until I give her a release command ‘ok, cross’ - this is just as important, as it will keep them safe! You need to practice this in a non busy environment, in the house/garden, and then onto quieter roads and build it up. You need to be consistent and enforce this even if it takes them a couple of seconds to sit otherwise it won’t be effective. I hope this helps, any questions feel free to ask 🥰Book now ⬇️https://www.cosmo-itall.co.uk/enquiry-form #dogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainingtips #dogtricks #dogtrainingadvice #dog #doglover #dogs
☀️OUT OF OFFICE ☀️
Until June 3rd ☺️
Cosmo & Nova have the Friday feeling 🤪🌤️🤍
It’s so important to understand the difference between rough play and ‘fighting’
You want to make sure the play is back and forth, and both dogs are engaging on similar levels.
Look out for loose bodies and bouncy behaviour.
You may hear dogs vocalising, or see a lot of teeth but this is very normal when dogs are playing.
It’s also important to make sure you can stop play on command, and do this frequently. The reason being is, some dogs can go from playing to stressed or over stimulated within a split second which then can lead to a squabble.

Most people dislike extendable leads, but I think there a great tool to practice recall and to be used in a none busy environment.
I definitely wouldn’t advise a extendable lead if your dog has bad lead manners as this will only make it matters worse. ❌
If you are to use a recall lead, make sure you spend that little bit extra to get a reliable one that won’t fail.

✨QUICK UPDATE✨
Hopefully won’t be too long now until I’m back helping you with all your amazing dogs! 😆
I have started taking my own dogs on small walks again to slowly build up the strength in my knee which feels amazing, also go my 90 degree bend and my full extension which I am over the moon about!! And, the brace is potentially coming off the 28th April!! 💪🏻🙌🏼
With that being said, there is still a lot of work I need to put in before handling some of the bigger/stronger breeds but I am hoping to open my diary back up end of May/June!! 👏🏻🙌🏼😆 - I will have to assess the dogs breed/strength and needs and make the decision based on my ability at the time! I hope you understand!
So excited to start back 😁
Much love, Cosmo-ItAll 💖😁
I’ve been working really hard with Nova to ignore livestock and it’s finally paying off! 🙌🏼🐑
She’s still not 100% trusted, hence why she’s still on her long line! Letting your dog off the lead when they don’t have 100% recall will weaken their recall and can get them into trouble 🤦♀️
- This is our fields and livestock I don’t recommend going into random fields to practice this‼️

I had a 1-1 session with beautiful Mango last week! 💛
Mangos owners struggled to get her attention outside the home, she would also pull on the lead and zig zag on walks.
We changed the lead from a retractable to a double clip lead and taught her lead pressure, we also taught her to check in more often on walks - now look at her 👏🏻
Well done Mango, keep up the hard work 👏🏻🐾🫶

✨Updates from Torres✨
Torres came to me as he was a lead puller, now look at him 👏🏻
Lead pulling isn’t a ‘quick fix’ you need to be consistent and patient but you will get there!
He’s such a good boy, pleasure to work with!

Threshold training paying off 👏🏻
The other day I was walking the dogs and someone opened their front door and their dog came charging out towards us crossing a fairly busy road.. this is why I love threshold training so much, knowing my dogs are safe even if I do open the door, knowing they wouldn’t leave unless I give them a command to do so
Not only does this keep her safe, it also creates a much calmer walk💪🏻 - great tip if you’ve got an over excitable dog on walks
P.s ignore the treats all over the floor

Cosmos party trick 😂👏🏻
Such a slow painful death 😂 why are collies so dramatic in everything they do🐶
✨ Rough play ✨
Rough play between dogs is absolutely normal and fine as long as both dogs are enjoying it.
The play should be back and forth with clear signs of both dogs enjoying themselves: soft bodies, open mouths, play bows, exaggerated, bouncy movements.
It’s really important to be able to interrupt dog play. The command I use is enough!

FAQ: How long does it take to teach a dog to heel?
Unfortunately, there is no straight answer! How consistent are you willing to be?
How much training are you going to put in?
How extreme does your dog currently pull?
A dog walking at heel for the full walk isn’t natural; they need to be able to sniff and explore!
I use the heel command when I want him to walk close to me. I would then use the free command to release him from that heel and allow him to sniff and explore!
TIP: Even though hes released from heel, he still isn't allowed to pull on the lead.

✨TIPS✨
Scatter feeding is an excellent way to mentally stimulate your dog, not only this but it helps calm your dogs mind and helps tires them out!
It’s also encourages your dog to use their eyes and nose - brilliant exercise for a reactive dog!! 🐶

Arlo having the time of his life in the field! 🥹
Training isn’t about being strict 24/7, you need to compromise and keep it fun!
It was so nice to see him this happy with not a care in the world 🥰
