So much love for this ball of energy 💕 Nala had the best time being back in the puddles. Nala gets a lot of ear infections and so she was the bestest girl letting me clean and dry her ears thoroughly afterwards too 🐶 Nala’s pawrent first left a review when she was only little. So here’s a current take on how they feel about Step Pets ❤️. “I love Nala being part of the step pet family as you are the most amazing person inside and out and the only person outside of our blood family that she trusts ❤️. You always go above and beyond in everything u do for Nala and I know she absolutely adores u. Plus u also have to put up with me and my late cancellations and booking hols when u not even confirmed u can have Nala🤣. So glad we are part of the step pet family ❤️”

Welcome to another day in the life of Step Pets 💕🐶😻 This is the fun part where you see me just ‘run around with dogs all day’. I regularly get asked by midday if I’m done for the day and I often listen to my job being referred to as a hobby. Please don’t forget - this doesn’t show so many things. The ever changing routes to avoid traffic Updating clients after walks The 16 booking requests to plan and confirm The social media prep that took place until 1am The responding to new enquiries The phone call with a training client Risk assessing environments for each dog Managing stressful situations with unknown dogs that aren’t being controlled The messages of support with other dog walkers The training plan being typed up. The hours are SO WORTH IT. 😍 but they are also physically and mentally tiring! Merry Christmas 🥰 I love our present tradition - it is fast becoming one of my favourite things to do at Christmas 👏🥰😻🐶 Going around all the dogs the week before Christmas is so much fun! Here’s just a handful of the almost 50 pets that got presents this year! 😱👏 Your gifts and cards - especially your personal, touching messages have made my Christmas 💕 Sadly I could only get presents for my regulars, long term ad hoc walkers and my repeat holiday clients so if you’re a training client or have used a one off service please know you are no less appreciated and valued. 🤗 If I was in a position to forever show my appreciation to each and every one of you who has ever used a service I would ❤️ I hope you all have a lovely Christmas 🎄

One year later 🥹 These girls deserve so much love and they landed in the perfect home to get it. The @pmakinson family have worked tirelessly to ensure these girls where given every opportunity to succeed. My God have they succeeded 😍 Love, patience, perseverance and understanding is the core to achieving your goals through force free training. Force free training isn’t distractions and shoving treats in your dogs face as much as some viral trainers like to try and convince you it is. We understand learning theory and all of it’s quadrants- we choose not to use them all because we don’t think they all serve the dog. It is a long process of changing emotions- not just behaviours. It is a systematic desensitisation not flooding. It is classical and operant conditioning through positive reinforcement not positive punishment. It’s not just a quick fix put a plaster over a leak approach. This outing filled me with joy this week ❤️ @mickleheaddogrun Lewi had a nice free run around the woodland walk 🌳He kept picking up sticks which he hasn’t done since he was little. There’s a very busy road behind the trees that he could see but he didn’t give it much attention so he was obviously loving his adventuring. 🥰 We played a lot of hide and seek and he did very well. The place is about 3acres so I was surprised that he would find me every time- even when it took him a few minutes 🫠 Huge thanks to @pawfitvetphysio @fran_germain for helping lewi’s mobility and keeping him moving well enough do these things. Lewi receives weekly physiotherapy, massage and laser treatment- it was also fran who advised we asked out vet about librella- any later and we’d have been stuck on a long waiting list. We’ve learnt so much about which exercises to restrict and which to increase, and also the benefits of the right shaped harness (that being @perfectfitharness for sure) With his pain being so reduced- his mental health and behaviour has improved dramatically.
