I hope everyone is enjoying the weather ☀️ I have decided to take a break from my page as I am struggling with work/life balance due to workload, studying, and running a busy home. I will still be contactable for enquiries, thanks for your support and understanding. Debbie 😊🩷

New research out of Sweden just proved your dog really does love you, but on a genetic level. Scientists at Linköping University found that oxytocin, the hormone tied to love and trust, plays a powerful role in how dogs bond with humans. Over thousands of years, dogs developed unique oxytocin receptor variants that make them more affectionate, more loyal, and better companions in our modern world.

Experts say we’re entering a brand-new phase of dog evolution. Unlike the past, when dogs were bred to guard or herd, today’s service dogs are being selected for traits like empathy, calmness, and emotional intelligence. They’re not just better behaved, they’re biologically wired to connect with us.

So yes, your dog isn’t just man’s best friend. They’re part of an ongoing co-evolution shaped by city life, human emotion, and a future where connection matters more than muscle.

An assessment for the stunning Bertie, a 4 year old Cockerpoo. Bertie’s Mum & Dad called me in to help with his anxiety and reluctance to go any further than the driveway gates during a walk. He would sit down and on the odd occasion he would (for some reason) venture out of the gates, he would stay on an area of grass and then turn to go back home. On the very rare occasion that Bertie managed to walk further than the grassy area, he would refuse to go around the corner and would pull to go home. His Mum & Dad have done absolutely everything to help him, but felt that they needed professional help to move forwards.
Lots of observation and listening showed me that Bertie is a hugely underconfident boy and he clearly has developed a negative association with the land outside the house gates. This can absolutely be a one time learning experience and unfortunately can have a significant impact on an emotional state. I have recommended a number of appropriate outlets/enrichment, and have put in place management to ensure that Bertie’s nervous system is not constantly activated. An overactive adrenal system is a huge catalyst in canine behaviour and its essential to keep its output low. I showed Bertie’s Mum & Dad how to work with him to gradually counter condition him to the things he finds scary and we actually got past the corner with a comfortable Bertie! It’s really key to allow dogs to decompress and allow the adrenaline to leave the body (otherwise they are at risk of trigger stacking). Time and patience is key to rehab and Bertie’s Mum & Dad have it in spades! Excellent work Bertie, Mum & Dad 😊🩷

The Benefits Of Dog Grooming

Dog grooming is strongly associated solely with improving the appearance of a dog. But did you know of all the other benefits? Not only does getting your dog groomed make them look and smell amazing, but it can also help with their overall wellbeing and health.

Here are a few of the top benefits of regular dog grooming:

++ Better hygiene and smell! ++
Of course one of the most obvious benefits of getting your dog groomed are the hygiene benefits. Cleaning and brushing away all that dead skin and buildup can do wonders to your dog’s hygiene and smell. A stinky dog is not pleasant to have around for you as their owner or any visitors that you may have, so why not take them to the groomer for a bit of a freshen up? Your nose will benefit hugely!

++ Early detection of any skin and health issues ++
If you start going to a groomer regularly, then they will get to know your dog and if there are any abnormalities. These could include bumps and lumps that you’ve perhaps missed during a brushing session. Detecting these issues early on is key in stopping the spread of any serious condition.

++ Reduces the chances of ear infections ++
Getting rid of the gunk and buildup in your dog’s ears is important in preventing any ear infections especially in those breeds with thicker/heavier coats. As well as this, your groomer will be able to trim any of the lengthier parts of hair which could be causing further issues. Ear infections are one of the leading causes of dog deafness, so getting their ears checked regularly will help to maintain their hearing for many years to come.

++ Trimming nails reduces the risk of developing bad posture or bone deformations ++
Trimming your dog’s nails is an essential part of your dog’s wellbeing. Nails that grow too long can be uncomfortable for your dog to walk on. They may change their posture to better accommodate longer nails. This can create larger problems if left untreated. Arthritis, bone deformations and bad posture are just some of the ailments that can occur from leaving your dog’s nails long. Point to look out for - if when standing your dogs nails are touching the ground, it’s a sign they need to get them trimmed.

++ Healthy and shiny coats ++
Regardless of your dog’s breed or hair length, taking your dog to the groomer to get washed and brushed will help with the condition and quality of their coat. Just brushing alone helps to remove dead skin, dirt and anything else lurking. It also helps to spread the natural oils over their coat, making it appear shinier and healthier.

++ Get rid of pulling matts ++
If your dog has medium-long fur, it is highly likely that they will develop matts. Matts occur when the fur becomes bunched and entwined. Left untreated these matts can grow large and pull aggressively on the skin. If these are in sensitive areas or are tight, they can give your dog a lot of discomfort. Regular brushing and grooming eliminate the chances of matts developing.

++ Regular teeth cleaning ++
If teeth and gums are well cared for and robust, your four-legged friend can bite hard and enjoy his food well into old age.
Regular brushing is the most effective way to keep the mouth and teeth healthy. The emmi-pet ultrasonic toothbrush cleans even the narrowest gaps between teeth without making noise or scrubbing, so that your pet quickly gets used to a routine of regular use. It improves bad breath; prevents tartar buildup; and will prevent and treat minor gum disease.

❤️GOOD LIFE DOG RESCUE IS URGENTLY SEARCHING FOR FOSTER HOMES NEEDED IN YORKSHIRE AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES. PLEASE SUPPORT. We are desperately looking for foster homes for our rescue dogs especially many oldies that are waiting to come to us. Ideally experienced homes are needed in Yorkshire and local counties. We now have a volunteer foster
co-ordinator that will contact you to discuss the dogs in need. This will help us to support more dogs needing recovery from surgery and so many elderly dogs that are now being left waiting in kennels that are not coping.

❤️PREFERRED HOMES ARE:
🍀 We are searching for small child and pet free homes. Calm homes that are not busy (hectic) would be perfect. This is so the dog is not put under pressure and can de-stress or recover from operations. (Child and pet free is not essential and is dependent on the dog and it's needs)

🍀 You need to be ideally in Yorkshire or surrounding counties. This is so we an offer hands on help if needed close by. Food and all veterinary support is given by the charity. If you can drive this is also a bonus.

🍀 Homes that have some dog experience is preferred but not crucial (this is also dependent on the dogs needs).

🍀 Homes that work from home or active retired people would be great. Our dogs need comforts, TLC, patience, and love. We need homes with company so foster dogs can be monitored if recovering from surgery. We don't want to place dogs in foster where they will be left alone all day.

❤️We thank people for their kind support. Fostering dogs is very rewarding and helps many dogs that do not cope in a kennel environment. This will allow us to help more stray dogs in Yorkshire. They will be cared for by you while still searching for a forever home without the stress of being placed in kennels. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR DETAILS TO [email protected] with a contact telephone number. Your details will be passed on to our foster co-ordinator. You will be asked to fill in a foster form which we will keep on file. We look forward to hearing from you. PLEASE SHARE AND SUPPORT. MANY THANKS.
