Sunday Group Training with Novice Spaniels in the morning and Novice Retrievers in the afternoon.
The Novice spaniels hunted in a line through the woods, the cover can be challenging in parts and is boggy underfoot, with plenty of scent to keep the spaniels hunting well.
We worked on the marked retrieve, blinds and multiple retrieves in an area. All spaniel groups are channelled for working, this particular class have mainly handlers wishing to work in the beating line. The top field of HQ offers white grass and sedges, which holds plenty of scent and the odd pheasant which on this occasion caught out a cheeky cocker! Re - lined and hunt on! π Finishing with steadiness and desensitisation around the pheasants. πΆπ
I had a little shadow that joined me, tasks were particularly hard for her as she had to be more patient than usual and had to watch whilst I set up handlers retrieves - she did brilliantly πΆπ
The Novice Retrievers, a full group today meant I could split the group in two giving an opportunity some challenging retrieves. Concentrating on crossovers, blind retrieves, dummy launcher and marked retrieves with multiple shots. One side would line out to the blinds and the others to the marks. After the first task we talked about seeing through commands, responding quicker when needed and reading when not to interfere. It was good to see the difference when the groups swapped disciplines and moving to the next task, how responding accordingly the handlers achieved better results from their dogs. We finished with relay, where dogs were sent to an area and on its return, the next dog was sent, passing one another to pick the retrieves. It can be quite testing for some dogs, focus on the job is key despite all kinds of distractions including other dogs working.
Well done everyone great sessions πΆπ

Mock KC Working Gundog Certificate Assessment
Mock KC Working Gundog Certificate Training morning at Corbinsbere Gundogs HQ in Wiltshire yesterday. A great morning achieving all the tasks, obedience, steadiness to multiple shot and marked dummies, hunting and picking up, retrieves over a fixed barrier and a retrieve from water - everyone did well staying focused around the livestock and guinea fowl - despite their very best efforts to cause distraction! πΆπ¦ππ
Excellent work everyone! πΆπ

Beaters training day today, for some it will be their first time out working their dogs. A great opportunity to talk about etiquette of the day, how drives work, flushing points, sticks, flags, strings, dog first aid, staying in line and maintaining good dog work.
So pleased with everyone, dogs worked well and handlers werenβt shy of cover! ππ€£ Great dog work out in the open and in the woodland!
Thanks Linds for being our gun! π«πΆπ¦
Itβs been a while since Iβve held a Junior Retriever Group..look at this little lot in their first class together. I have seen them all through 1-2-1βs and placing them into a group has worked brilliantly. βοΈ
We even had three siblings in the mix (the yellows) all of which behaved impeccably. Loving the colour coordinated photo!
Looking forward to the next π
A brilliant second Novice Barriers training day today, the dogs were fabulous. πΆβοΈ A real mixture of breeds and great ability, all achieved their retrieves.
First up the fixed barrier working on marked, memories, as well as a split retrieve increasing distance and difficulty. The advanced dogs set up a long memory sending the full length of the top field and over the barrier to grab their retrieve.
We moved off to the woods for blinds across a deep track, using footsteps and the wind to achieve successfully. Finishing with a long mark over three fallen trees (or on top of the fallen tree π it didnβt phase Rizzo as she nailed it, take a look at photos in comments).
The afternoon session, back in the woods for jumps over the flexible barrier, marks and blinds over the fence. Excellent work all round!!
Thank you Lindsey Crafty Brown Bear Designs for joining us and we look forward to seeing photos πΈ πΆβοΈ
A little cracker this one, doing so well in her 1-2-1 lessons at just 6mths old the retrieve is fantastic, itβs always wonderful to see such a natural retrieve. Well done Karyn youβve done brilliantly! πΆβοΈ
