A fantastic live game training day on Trigon Shoot in Dorset today by kind permission of William Bill Beaumont. We have been running these days for well over 10 years and they are perfect for introduction to game giving the dogs access to multiple flushes, testing the handlers training and the dogs steadiness. 🐢🐦

We worked 4 main drives through all types of cover, rhododendron woodland, bracken, white grass and cover crops, all had plenty of game for the spaniels. 🐦🐦🐦🐦 Everyone did brilliantly and all spaniels had flushes and that’s where you see β€œthe penny drop” and the spaniels go up through the gears! It’s so satisfying as a trainer to be able offer all levels of Gundog training and to see the handlers and spaniels progress to working in the field. Well done! πŸ‘

A big thank you to Bill who is so generous with his time, advice and of course for allowing us to chase his pheasants about the place!! 😁🐦 Can not wait for the next one!! πŸ‘

Thank you to everyone who took photos πŸ“Έ 🐢

Thank you Mrs C for looking after the funny farm, I couldn’t do these away days without your support - hope you liked your doggy bag 😁😁

I loved today….thanks all πŸΆπŸ™πŸ¦πŸ•ŠοΈ

Today we ran our first walked up training day on the Bradley Shoot in Wiltshire by kind permission of keepers Mark Higgins and Peter Dix.

What a fantastic day, a total of 6 handlers with 4 spaniels and 2 retrievers throughout the day and 4 guns. The ground offered a variety of wild bird mix cover and set aside along side hedges…..and one particular hedge that just kept on giving! Perfect for the Novice dogs. Plenty of game to test the dogs steadiness including hares and deer, the bag at the end day was 23 pheasant and 1 partridge.

The day was run professionally, flowed well and it certainly gave the dogs the experience they needed as well as enough shooting for our guns.

Corbinsbere Gundogs is based in Wiltshire and feel privileged to be able to run walked up training days working alongside Mark and Pete and their awesome team. Looking forward to more days through the season. 🐢🐦πŸ’₯

Thank you Lindsey of Crafty Doghouse Photography for capturing such a special day for us! πŸ“ΈπŸΆ

Thank you to everyone who made it possible. πŸΆπŸ¦πŸ‘

Sunday Group Training with Novice Spaniels in the morning and Novice Retrievers in the afternoon.

The Novice spaniels hunted in a line through the woods, the cover can be challenging in parts and is boggy underfoot, with plenty of scent to keep the spaniels hunting well.
We worked on the marked retrieve, blinds and multiple retrieves in an area. All spaniel groups are channelled for working, this particular class have mainly handlers wishing to work in the beating line. The top field of HQ offers white grass and sedges, which holds plenty of scent and the odd pheasant which on this occasion caught out a cheeky cocker! Re - lined and hunt on! 😁 Finishing with steadiness and desensitisation around the pheasants. 🐢🌟

I had a little shadow that joined me, tasks were particularly hard for her as she had to be more patient than usual and had to watch whilst I set up handlers retrieves - she did brilliantly 🐢🌟

The Novice Retrievers, a full group today meant I could split the group in two giving an opportunity some challenging retrieves. Concentrating on crossovers, blind retrieves, dummy launcher and marked retrieves with multiple shots. One side would line out to the blinds and the others to the marks. After the first task we talked about seeing through commands, responding quicker when needed and reading when not to interfere. It was good to see the difference when the groups swapped disciplines and moving to the next task, how responding accordingly the handlers achieved better results from their dogs. We finished with relay, where dogs were sent to an area and on its return, the next dog was sent, passing one another to pick the retrieves. It can be quite testing for some dogs, focus on the job is key despite all kinds of distractions including other dogs working.

Well done everyone great sessions πŸΆπŸ‘

A shootover session at HQ on partridge, with some lovely flushes from the sedges and great work from Del Bower with Lucy and Gill Carpenter with Mojo - very proud of the dogs and some awesome retrieves. The ground works perfectly offering some great challenges and tests the dogs ability to mark.

The sessions in pairs offers plenty of time to train, achieve what we hoped and give the dogs a break whilst they watch the other dogs turn.

A massive thank you to our cracking shot Samuel Percy, you were brilliant! Looking forward to next time. Tracy πŸ”₯🐦

Happy Pheasant season! 🐦

We have been busy at Corbinsbere HQ through September with all things Gundogs 🐢 and Game 🐦 prepping for the season ahead, from introduction to game, Walked Up Training on Partridge, Cold Game Training and individual shootover sessions.

We have also run some great training days starting with fur/feather dummies progressing to cold game retrieves by the end of the day - ideal for first introductions.

Our new game pen is proving to be a huge asset, a big thank you to all who helped with this! πŸ™

Lastly walked up live game training days in Wiltshire and Dorset will be available from November through to January - so excited for this! 🐢🐦🌟

If any of the above training days are of interest to you we will be running regular days through the winter, please get in touch on here, pm me or WhatsApp me on 07919484941. Thanks Tracy.

Weasel, Dewi and Clem were all shot over yesterday for the first time on partridge, all did really well. I love seeing the dots start to join in training, sit to flush, shoot and retrieve. πŸ¦πŸΆπŸ”«

All dogs reacted differently, some more confident than others, whilst highlighting strengths and weaknesses in their training, which can be worked on before working them in the field or competing in trials.

Weasel - she initially was a little confused by a walking gun and had to be encouraged to boost her confidence, once she started to flow she had a flush quite quickly. πŸ‘ Her first flush she was quite excited and wanted to chase, but with a reminder through voice from me and stop command she stopped. Her second flush was to perfection, bird shot and she was sent - held lovely but couldn’t quite find it in the heavy sieves, so again with encouragement and me allowing her to work it out she found it and delivered beautifully. Two birds shot for her and that was enough for her. Very smartly done Weasel! 🐦🐦

Dewi - well what a super star, initially a bit sticky in his hunting, then he scented a bird and he started to go through the gears - a bounce on the flush to try to mark and bird shot behind. Dewi didn’t quite mark it, Lindsey tried handling to start, then pulled him over to line in to the wind where he picked beautifully. Second and third bird flushed out of sieves, both he marked well, straight out picked beautifully and delivered nicely. No dramas! 🐦🐦🐦

Clem - well what a little sweetheart, didn’t take any notice of the walking gun and hunted nicely. First flush I hit the whistle as didn’t think she was going to sit, bird shot and she marked well I then sent her on β€œPidge” πŸ™ˆ AND in fairness to her she didn’t move! Once I remembered who I had with me πŸ˜‚ and sent her on β€œClem” she went straight out, but something they have to get used to is a bird flapping, this put her off so I went straight over picked the bird up and gave her a few retrieves and she picked everytime. She went on to have another couple of flushes, one more bird shot and delivered back no problems. 🐦🐦

I wanted to do a write up as it doesn’t always go to plan and it doesn’t have to be perfect but it’s down to us to turn it around - long as you can refer to your training, make it fun, ensure the dog succeeds and boost confidence you’ll get there. I was so pleased with all three. 🐢🐢🐢

Dewi looking pretty chilled after his achievements, well done Lindsey 🐢🐦πŸ₯°

A full days training on Sunday, really proud of both groups!

The Novice/Junior group in the morning excelled in their training, stop whistle commands and hunt on command, memories and marks - with some spot on steadiness exercises! Top marks! πŸ‘πŸΆ

The Barrier Workshop in the afternoon was set to challenge the dogs and handlers. First a double, long mark over the barrier and a memory into long grass. We then moved to a higher jump with sieves in front, this is a tricky area for the spaniels as they tend to want to hunt it! All got over the barrier and picked their mark.

The idea of the exercises were to use the sieve barrier as a point of reference to send the dogs back to but changing the discipline each time. The next task was a blind over the same barrier on the same line and a marked retrieve into the thick sieves. Blind first then the mark.

Building on this I went and hid 6 tennis balls & 1 snipe dummy in the grass over the sieve barrier. We went up the hill, a β€œboxed jump” sits on top of the slope - blinds were placed in the box all dogs achieved itπŸ‘ , again this was a tricky task making sure the dogs were stopped quick enough if they fell short and redirected into the box.

Lastly, using the point of reference, the dogs finished with a mark up the hill in the box, then sent down the hill over the barrier, held in the area for a hidden tennis ball. Well done everyone - certainly challenged you all and gave you all a lot to think about!

You all did brilliantly and I’m sure you slept well too and not just the dogs 😴 πŸ˜‚

Big thank you to Mrs C of Crafty Doghouse Photography who joined us in the afternoon and captured some cracking shots! πŸ“Έ πŸ₯° β€” with Crafty Doghouse Photography

Another very successful Small Animal First Aid Course presented by Alice Hill RVN, hosted here at Corby HQ, Wilshire.
Valuable knowledge for dog owners presented so well, with encouragement for all attending to participate. 🩹
Alice's experience of working in the field with her own dogs, allows her to tailor this seminar to cover aspects of working dogs with particular relevance.
Good knowledge to have that's never a waste of time to learn. πŸ‘ŒπŸ₯°

For anyone interested in attending one of these classes, we will be holding another session with Alice next year & organising one for Dorset Working Spaniel Club also πŸ˜‰

Keep an eye out for dates etc early next year.
All attending Alice's seminars recieve a Certificate, emailed notes covering all aspects of the seminar & a First Aid kit designed & created by Alice πŸ₯°

Now relaxing with a cup of tea & cake .... love left overs after a training session πŸ˜†πŸ˜‹

3) Cold Game (Date TBC)

First up will be a training day on feathered/rabbit dummies, this would suit those prepping for cold game, walked up scenarios, dummy launcher and starter pistol shot will be used. Working in a line, pairs and individually.

The first part of the day will be walked up tasks, a short break followed by focusing on pushing the retrieve in the afternoon.

All dogs must have a good retrieve, already picking feathered dummies and accustomed to shot. 🐦 πŸ”«

KC Working Gundog Certificate Assessment
Wiltshire HQ
Saturday 27th July 2024

A fantastic morning running a KCWGC at HQ, a big thank you to Paddy Williams our A Panel Assessor for giving up his time, also to Steve Hayward and Lindsey for helping throughout the assessment - we all appreciate this so much! 🐢

The Assessment covered all the criteria, starting with off lead work, gunshot and marks over a fixed fence, steadiness to thrown dummies/multiple gunshot, main drive in the woodland - beaters and pickers up finishing with a marked retrieve from the water.

Congratulations to those who gained the KCWGC today. πŸ‘ 🌟 🐢

Simon Fry Kentwone Orange Fire (Cocker)
Gill Carpenter Corbinsbere Queens Gambit (Cocker)
Suzie Mills Moon Maeve (ESS)
Hollie Louise Firefly Hiiewag (Spaniel)

We didn’t quite have a full house today, although more than capable of passing and just goes to show anything can happen on the day! πŸ˜‰πŸΆ

An extra bonus as today was my last assessed training session and subject to paper work I am now a KCWGC Qualified Assessor πŸ‘πŸŒŸπŸΆ

Lastly thank you for the photos and videoclips of the day Lindsey Corbin is lovely having a record of the assessment. 😊

⭐️The Kennel Club Working Gundog Certificate⭐️

Booklets and WGC Lanyards have arrived! 🐢🌟

We will be running a β€œKennel Club Working Gundog Certificate” Assessment day on dummies, on Saturday 27th July

Assessors Paddy Williams ( A Panel Judge) and Me!

Please have a read of the link below and have a look at what’s required. You’ll see it’s open to all Gundog breeds, KC and non KC (non KC need to enrol on the KC Activities register).

I think this is a fantastic opportunity, to train to a high standard and obtain a recognised certification of the dogs ability as well as the handlers!

🐾 This day is fully booked, however if it’s something you would like to work towards or you have a group of you with dogs that meet the criteria, do get in touch! I can also organise Mock Days if you would like to see how the days are run.

Many Thanks
Tracy
