Mock KC Working Gundog Certificate Assessment
Mock KC Working Gundog Certificate Training morning at Corbinsbere Gundogs HQ in Wiltshire yesterday. A great morning achieving all the tasks, obedience, steadiness to multiple shot and marked dummies, hunting and picking up, retrieves over a fixed barrier and a retrieve from water - everyone did well staying focused around the livestock and guinea fowl - despite their very best efforts to cause distraction! 🐶🐦🐐🌟
Excellent work everyone! 🐶🌟

Beaters training day today, for some it will be their first time out working their dogs. A great opportunity to talk about etiquette of the day, how drives work, flushing points, sticks, flags, strings, dog first aid, staying in line and maintaining good dog work.
So pleased with everyone, dogs worked well and handlers weren’t shy of cover! 😊🤣 Great dog work out in the open and in the woodland!
Thanks Linds for being our gun! 🔫🐶🐦
It’s been a while since I’ve held a Junior Retriever Group..look at this little lot in their first class together. I have seen them all through 1-2-1’s and placing them into a group has worked brilliantly. ⭐️
We even had three siblings in the mix (the yellows) all of which behaved impeccably. Loving the colour coordinated photo!
Looking forward to the next 😀
A brilliant second Novice Barriers training day today, the dogs were fabulous. 🐶⭐️ A real mixture of breeds and great ability, all achieved their retrieves.
First up the fixed barrier working on marked, memories, as well as a split retrieve increasing distance and difficulty. The advanced dogs set up a long memory sending the full length of the top field and over the barrier to grab their retrieve.
We moved off to the woods for blinds across a deep track, using footsteps and the wind to achieve successfully. Finishing with a long mark over three fallen trees (or on top of the fallen tree 🙈 it didn’t phase Rizzo as she nailed it, take a look at photos in comments).
The afternoon session, back in the woods for jumps over the flexible barrier, marks and blinds over the fence. Excellent work all round!!
Thank you Lindsey Crafty Brown Bear Designs for joining us and we look forward to seeing photos 📸 🐶⭐️
A little cracker this one, doing so well in her 1-2-1 lessons at just 6mths old the retrieve is fantastic, it’s always wonderful to see such a natural retrieve. Well done Karyn you’ve done brilliantly! 🐶⭐️
Haggis and Weasel 🐶🐶
6mth old cheeky cockers, learning manners at the gate…which one has spotted the cat 🐈⬛ 😁🤪

Ruddy “Corbinsbere Steadfast” out on a memory - top work 🐶⭐️👍
Up and out early this morning, all dogs exercised and they welcomed a quick dip in the pond. An impromptu day off today due to the heat - nothing like a practice run of annual leave! 😄🏝
I thought I would be productive and not waste the day, starting with clearing my phone, the 1200 video clips felt like the best place to begin. So far I’ve deleted none and watched too many 🙈.
I love this clip of Ruddy, 18mths a go on a bit of rabbit scent - he’s not flying by any means, what’s noticeable to me is how he’s progressed even further and is showing real promise for the trialling season. I’m chuffed to bits with his training, his confidence has grown considerably and along with his drive.
I think I need an updated video clip 🤣.
The old boy “Sedge” - Perrylen Sedge of Corbinsbere still absolutely loves a training session! He’ll be 11 this year, a great working boy and is very honest - he’s great to have on the picking up team albeit not full days now, mentally he could, physically not so much! 🐶⭐️
A clip of part of the drive today during the KC Working Gundog Certificate Assessment …the drive itself has 4 handlers sitting steady as Pickers Up, 4 beaters in line up the hill. Beaters hunt down until they hear the first shot, they are to stop and wait patiently as the shots continue and dummies thrown out.
Pickers up are then individually sent for the marked retrieves. Once all are collected, the beaters hunt down through the line of Pickers Up and sweep up for the unseen dummies - once picked - swap round!
In this clip you can hear the shots, dummies are thrown out, dogs steady and then individually sent. 👍
Novice Beginners class on Sunday, all doing exceptionally well, putting into practice all their training so far in different environments as well as achieving their tasks around other dogs.
The session involved the basics, steadiness, stop to movement, hunting, marked and directional retrieves, whistle commands and the off switch. I’m very proud to see all dogs working with their owners confidently and just how keen they are to please. Top work everyone! 🐶⭐️
Great group training in Dorset yesterday evening, ability ranging from beginners to advanced.
Focusing on firstly ensuring dogs are confident in the water and achieving the delivery, correcting the want to shake or drop the dummy once at the waters edge. 🐶
For the more advanced, long marks and unseen out in the water. ⭐️
What a beautiful place to train!!! 😊
A couple of young Springers around 9mths old in the woodland pen from the Novice Handler/Novice Beginners class yesterday. Both handlers are wanting to work their dogs as well as competing in KC working tests - definitely well on their way! Great work! 🐶⭐️
1 clip here and have a look at the 2nd clip in the comments, different styles both showing ability. It’s wonderful to see new Gundog handlers getting hooked and ultimately wanting to train their dogs for the field. Love my job! 👍
A new Novice Beginners Spaniel Group today, wonderful to see the spaniels focused on their handlers whilst working around other dogs - all under a year old.
I initially see most handlers on a 1-2-1’s basis before joining groups, tailoring training to what works for their dog. Covering the foundations, stop whistle, retrieve, switch off when waiting and hunting. With both the handler and dog having a sound knowledge of what’s expected in training, integrating into a group I believe is much more successful. 🐶👍⭐️
Session one - Great work everyone!
A great Novice Gundog training session in Dorset yesterday, working on the retrieve over ditches, through ditches, short memories over water on to an island and long marked as well as unseen out on the pond.
A real range of ability from the less confident - literally their first swims to the more advanced, all achieved their retrieves , lovely to have a variety of gundog breeds too! 🐶
What a brilliant Novice Spaniel training day!!🐶⭐️ Today’s session focused on blinds, the stop command and directional work. Great to see how the handlers and dogs grew in confidence from the mornings session to the afternoon.
The main tasks…
1) A double ignore the mark and complete the blind first, then send to mark.
2) A mark thrown, send to mark and stop immediately and recall, send to blind behind and resend to mark.
3) Send for a mark, send back to the area of mark ask to hold area, stop and redirect to blind out on left side, re-send to area of mark for an unseen placed dummy.
4) True blind (not on footsteps) - how to set up when you’re training by yourself.
* All of the above is working on trust between handler and dog, having a partnership that if you ask them to stop, re- direct, to call off a retrieve or line away from an obvious retrieve - they’ll do it! 🐶👍
In the video, the handler is sending his spaniel for a blind, nice line straight into the wind to help him successfully pick the retrieve.
Great fun with great dogs and handlers, thank you I loved it!!
A big thank you to Linds for our lunch and we are looking forward to the photos! 📸 🐶⭐️
