I also love this one where he turns and really looks at me so we have that face to face interaction 😁
The end of the session 😁 there was quite a lot of people out walking about so he had a few good distractions too 👌🏽 you can also see that he’s not pulling! 😍😄
Had Rigby on a walk on Friday. This was towards the start of the session. You can see how easily distracted he gets so this exercise is just to encourage his focus on his handler. Also, doing little exersises like this and building it up gradually will increase his mental stimulation and hopefully improve his low boredom threshold!
In addition to the previous post, letting him rocket around for five mins always helps 😂 I let them do this at intervals throughout the walk so he knew that if Hecate back to me and went back on the lead, it didn’t mean the fun was necessarily over 😊
Very delayed update on rigby! This was his second-to-last session. I took him for a walk with Aida to improve his recall/ relationship with his handler etc and just encouraging him to want to be involved with what his handler is doing instead of running off strait away to do his own thing. There was a few moments where he got distracted but on the whole, we had a really good session and he always came back to me (even if it took a few moments for him to listen!) lots of excited praise in a stupid high voice, getting down to his level and keeping calm is usually the best techniques to encourage your dog to want to come back to you/ keep his attention.
We also went outside for five mins at the end of our session on Friday and did a bit of work on recall and focus. Rigby started off by not listening at all. He was super excited, running around and leaping up at us but teaching him new tricks etc is a brilliant way to enrich him, keep his brain busy and get him listening to you. This was by the end of the session! Took him about 2 mins to learn to lie down!! 😊🥰🐶
To tackle the jumping up at the table and barking at the phone etc, we started doing some comtact training. When a dog is told bed in a firm way they will start to think of it as a sort of naughty step. I like to teach them that their bed is a good place to be and that they aren’t being pushed away and ignored. I know this is not how owners see it but it’s so important to be very clear to your dog and help them understand that they can be in their own space but still be involved. Baby steps can seem like you’re getting no where but it does pay off! 😊 we actually managed to sit down and have a cuppa while Rigby was on his bed by the end of it!
We started to look at Rigbys need to be the center of attention when his owners are sat at the table or on the phone. He didn’t bark so much in this video but you get an idea of his behaviour towards his humans by how he jumps up etc
I didn’t get any videos of Rigbys first training session but here’s a few updates of his second session. Did a few little bits with him yesterday. His humans have clearly been working hard and giving it there all as you can already see a big improvement with him. Not only is he settling faster when he plays up but he is also really beggining to listen to his owners. On his assessment day he barked non stop and already you can see in this video that he’s starting to use his own initiative by stopping without us being obvious with the treats 😊🙈 we still have a long way to go but I don’t like to rush the learning process. I believe that allowing the dog to learn at their own pace gives much better long term results 😁🐶
So I met the beautiful Rigby yesterday. a very big puppy at over 25kg he has learnt to take advantage of his owners by pushing boundaries and generally taking charge of everything. He’s wearing his humans down so I can’t wait to start working with them to help them take control of their lives back and to help them create a happy home environment for both them and their puppy. He is a super friendly dog and he’s extremely intelligent so I’m very excited to help start his new way of life and provide his owners with the skills and tools they’ll need to carry on with his learning progress 😊🙈🐶
Bit of dive training 😂 not all just for fun though. Brilliant confidence and trust exercise. She is trusting that I won’t put her in a situation where she is in danger and the confidence bit is something we can all learn; sometimes you’ve just got to take a run and leap! 💪🏽😝🐶🎾
