Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets formerly Guernsey Animal Aid

Guernsey's Lost & Found Pets formerly Guernsey Animal Aid GUERNSEY ANIMAL AID Guernsey Animal Aid was founded in 1998 by Sue Vidamour as an answer to the feral cat problem in Guernsey.

The cats were interbreeding and this led to a lot of pain and suffering for them. Prior to this Sue had been rehoming horses and dogs for 6 years. In 1998 there were many feral cat colonies on the island so Sue held a meeting about the problem and Guernsey Animal Aid was formed. Since this first meeting over 700 feral cats have been neutered or spayed and the kittens re-homed. Now thanks to the ef

forts of Sue and the rest of the Guernsey Animal Aid gang, feral cats are a shrinking problem. However it is one that we need to keep on top of and here at Guernsey Animal Aid that’s exactly what we intend to do. Over the years Guernsey Animal Aid expanded and eventually we were taking on all animals, no matter how big or small. We were a rescue center & sanctuary and we never turned an animal in need away. Unfortunately after many years of rescuing animals in need, due to health issues, Sue was no longer able to look after so many animals, even with the help of all the volunteers, so it was with a heavy heart that Guernsey Animal Aid was shut down. We re-homed the animals that were suitable for re-homing. The ponies, the rabbits and guinea pigs. The parrots were all taken to specialist sanctuaries in the UK. It was decided however that we couldn’t stop the work we were doing for feral cats on the Island. If we stopped now, then the problem would come back and the feral cat situation would gradually get out of control again. So any remaining money that had been donated to us before we shut down was used towards this scheme. Since then we have decided to re-open. This time though we would put all of our resources into cats and a few select cases for dogs.

🐾🌞🐶 CARE FOR DOGS 🐶🌞🐾
As we head into the summer months, going for a long walk or a jog with your dog sounds like an excellent idea. But before you grab the lead, please spare a thought for your dog. Every year, when temperatures start to rise, vets see plenty of cases of heatstroke after a well-meaning owner pushes their dog too far. Most people know that they should not leave their pets in cars, but dogs can get heatstroke by going for a long walk in hot weather. Dogs do not have sweat glands, so the main way they get rid of heat, is through panting. Heatstroke is a condition where an animals body temperature is higher than normal. It can be caused by a warm, humid environment, little or no shade, and too much exercise. Symptoms vary, but usually include a bright red tongue, very red or pale gums, drooling, salivating, breathing distress, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, and even seizures. If untreated, heatstroke can cause internal organ damage 🐾

💦🌞Give Nature A Helping Hand🌞💦
"The hot weather could be causing natural water sources to dry up, meaning birds and hedgehogs could be left without anything to drink. Turning your outside space into a home for nature by doing simple things like topping up your birdbath, creating a make-shift pond from a washing-up tub or putting down a saucer filled with water could offer a vital lifeline to some of our garden favourites that are already fighting against declines."
