🎆FIREWORKS!🎇
Viper went to her first firework display this evening, we didn’t go in as I wasn’t sure whether dogs were allowed in or not but we stood right outside and we were close enough to the fireworks! She absolutely smashed it. This pup is bomb proof, she is a little cracker!
This is the benefits of noise desensitisation from a puppy! All of our litters have an album full of noises (fireworks, thunderstorms, planes, traffic, etc) played to them from three weeks old and until they leave us. Any puppies we keep back have this continued throughout out their lives to keep them used to these kinds of noises.
We will never stop firework displays or thunderstorms, or many of the noises that disrupt a lot of dogs lives, so the only thing we can do is get used to them and use these opportunities for training.
Your dogs don’t need to be a puppy to start this, although it is definitely easier to start them young! Throughout the year, you can get your dog used to those noises to prepare for the firework season. Use some treats (something of high value to them) and start playing firework sounds in the background for them while they’re busy eating. Start at a really low volume. As they get used to the noise and they show no negative reactions to the sound then you can start to increase the volume. Do this over several weeks or months depending on your dogs level of discomfort around the noises. Always use treats or something they enjoy to bring a positive association to the sounds - you can scatter some treats down on the floor to keep them busy, fill a kong with dog safe peanut butter, spread some on a lickimat, whatever will keep them busy and entertained. If you are struggling, contact a trainer to help you and your dog get started!
Dogs do not need to spend their lives afraid of fireworks and we CAN help them get through it! 🎆
We introduced some meat today and it’s safe to say they all really enjoyed it, we also added the start of their noise desensitisation during this by playing fireworks and thunderstorm noises (not shown in the video). They all did really well and barely had any reactions to the noises, this litter is incredible - I can’t wait to help them experience more over the next five weeks 🤩
Honey’s sweet babies got moved out into the big puppy run today! It gives them some extra room to run around and play during the day now that they’re on the move 🥰 we’ve got two heat lamps up to make sure it stays a nice temperature for them and will be introducing some suitable toys and things for them to do over the next few weeks! 💜
We’re a lot more active on Instagram than on here so if anyone is on there and wants to keep up with us and the dogs then head over and follow!
A lot of our stories are posted onto Facebook too but Instagram is a better platform for us at the minute 🥰
