Rook has recently enjoyed several weekend stays with a fosterer, where he has shown himself to be affectionate, loving and generous with his cuddles—he especially enjoys snuggling his head close to you. He’s discovered a fondness for bean bags and is perfectly content to have his own cozy space, though he’s also happy to share it in moderation. A potential adopter will need a little patience as Rook learns new tasks and settles into his new home, but the rewards are well worth it.
Travel – Rook will hop into the car with some gentle verbal encouragement. It can take him a little while to settle, but once he lies down he tends to stay put. He travelled comfortably for a 45-minute journey in the boot of a hatchback with a few blankets to make him feel secure.
Housetraining – Once Rook understands where he’s supposed to go, he remembers well, though he still benefits from regular trips outside—around every two hours to be safe. At night, once the lights are off, he sometimes whines, though it’s not entirely clear why. Taking him out about 20 minutes after lights-out has helped, and after that he generally stays clean for 8–9 hours. He sleeps in the kitchen on a big fluffy blanket with a few toys from the centre. A video monitor has shown that he may wander for a little while before settling. He has also been left alone during the day for 45 minutes and remained calm, so this duration could likely be increased gradually without issue.
Feeding – Rook sometimes prefers not to leave his safe space (the bean bag), even for meals, so feeding him in the kitchen before giving him access to the rest of the house has worked well. Walking – Rook enjoys exploring different places with new smells and is friendly, soaking up attention from strangers. He can be reactive to wildlife, but his response is to stand and stare rather than pull. He walks nicely on the lead, stays close, and behaves beautifully in dog-friendly shops.
Training – Rook will benefit from support with basic commands and continued positive guidance from his new family.
Overall, Rook is a wonderful companion, and his new family will be very lucky to have him. Just be prepared—when he gets the zoomies, he can really build up some speed!
