DNA results are in... Those who know don't take part
When rescuing a dog the breed doesn't matter but knowing your dogs genetic makeup can help you to fulfil your dog's needs.
When this one was young it was hard to tell which breeds because her personality hadn't taken its full form. Now almost a year old, I can proudly say, I did correctly identify some of her breeds... Not all though and I would not have guessed these kind of percentages. Her ear shape still confuses me.

"Place training" can be useful for dogs and children.
Sometimes I have a behaviour challenge with my child. Instead of getting frustrated, I stop and think why. Usually the answer is I actually didn't give him clear instructions and clear boundaries. My solution, I'm going to draw a circle and you need to stand in the circle if you come out of your circle before mummy says so mummy will put your harness on so I can manage you. Because he is a child not a dog we discuss safety in carparks.
And for those of you who are wondering yes he does get obsessed with circles on our walks after this and we spend lots of time drawing circles and jumping from one to another then silly mummy draws a triangle and I'm put right "no triangle, circle mummy". We are now at the point where he asks mummy to draw a circle as soon as I get him out of the car.
Gentle parenting works! So does gentle dog training. It takes consistency, patience and the right approach.

Tick prevention for dogs is crucial for their health and well-being. Ticks can transmit serious diseases like Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, which can lead to severe health issues if left untreated. Preventive measures, such as tick collars, topical treatments, or regular checks, can help shield your furry friend from these risks.
Even if ticks are found just wandering on your dog's fur, it's essential to remove them promptly. These parasites can eventually attach to the skin, increasing the risk of disease transmission. By removing ticks before they latch on, you reduce the potential for infection and keep your dog safer. Regular grooming and checking after outdoor activities will ensure that any ticks are detected early and promptly removed.

The supplements I feed my dogs:
Green lipped muscle
Salmon oil
Glucosamine
Boswellia
Canikalm daily
Disclaimer:
When selecting supplements for your dog, itβs essential to consult with your veterinarian or a nutritionist to determine which ones are necessary based on your dogβs specific needs and diet. Additionally, always follow the manufacturerβs recommended dosage and administration instructions to avoid over-supplementation.
The positives:
When added to a dog's diet at the correct dosage, supplements can provide a balanced diet, maintain optimal health and avoid deficiencies.
The negatives:
In the UK, pet supplements lack specific rules or regulations. Nevertheless, there are established controls dictating the permissible ingredients in pet food items. Additionally, regulations govern the labeling and marketing practices of pet food manufacturers. These measures are in place to uphold the safety of the pet food and supplements you provide to your furry companions. However this does not mean they have to be nutritionally beneficial for your dog.

πΎ Considering the safety and well-being of our furry friends is paramount! π« Retractable leads might not be suitable for every pup. Loose lead walking can be a challenge as they learn pressure equals motion. The wire or flat cord can slice through skin especially if moving at speed posing risks for both dog and humans in the vicinity. In bustling areas, hyperactive pups can create hazards for the public such as entanglement, trip hazards and inadequate control.
However, for calm, disabled, or older dogs like our precious deaf or blind companions, when used responsibly, retractable leads can offer enriching experiences under proper control. Let's prioritise safety and match the leash to the needs of our beloved dogs! πΆ

π In the world of training, there are moments when our furry friends seem to march to the beat of their own drum. But let me tell you something: patience, perseverance, and positivity can turn even the most challenging situations into triumphs. πΎ
Ever found yourself frustrated when your dog just won't listen, no matter how hard you try? It happens to the best of us. But here's the thing: with a little understanding and a lot of love, miracles can happen.
Picture this: your pup is distracted, maybe even downright disinterested. But instead of giving up, you dig deep and remember the power of positive reinforcement. By rewarding those small victories and practicing basic name recognition in the midst of chaos, you're laying the groundwork for success.
But hey, let's be real β it's not always smooth sailing. Sometimes, your dog might not be motivated by treats, or they could be feeling overwhelmed by their surroundings. That's where patience truly shines. Take a step back, give them space, and remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.
So here's to the journey β the ups, the downs, and everything in between. Because when you give your dog and yourself the time they need, anything is possible. Keep believing, keep training, and watch as the bond between you and your furry friend grows stronger with each passing day. π #PatienceIsKey #TrustTheProcess #DogTrainingJourney #DogTrainingTips #DogTraining #dogtrainer #dogbehaviour #dogbehaviourist #labradorretriever #blacklabrador #workinglabrador

Picking up your dog's poop and properly disposing of it in a bin is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it helps keep public spaces clean and hygienic, reducing the risk of spreading diseases and bacteria. Dog waste contains harmful pathogens that can contaminate soil and water sources if left untreated. Wildlife can be attracted to eat dog poop, due to its availability this isn't good for their health and can in some cases cause death especially if ingested with a poop bag. Additionally, it prevents people from accidentally stepping in the mess carrying it to other places and contaminating a wider area. Proper disposal also contributes to environmental preservation by preventing pollution and maintaining the aesthetics of outdoor environments. Overall, responsible dog waste management promotes community well-being and fosters a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone to enjoy.

Unlocking the Secrets of Pawsitive Play: The Art of Dog Socialisation πΎβ¨ β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬οΈ
Appropriate dog play involves interactions that are mutually enjoyable, safe, and respectful. Dogs should engage in play that includes elements of give-and-take, such as chasing, wrestling, and play fighting, with breaks for brief pauses to avoid overstimulation.
Socialising is crucial for dogs to learn proper communication and etiquette with other canines, as well as with humans. This can be achieved through controlled introductions to new dogs and people in various environments. Positive reinforcement is key in reinforcing desirable behaviours during play and social interactions, while also redirecting any inappropriate behaviours gently but quickly to prevent potential escalation.
It's important for handlers to observe their dogs closely and intervene if play becomes too rough or if any signs of discomfort or stress are exhibited by either dog involved. Regular socialisation and appropriate play contribute to a well-adjusted and happy dog.

Growling is a way for dogs to communicate...
They may growl to express a range of emotions, like feeling threatened, scared, frustrated, or even playful. It's a warning signal that lets others know how they're feeling and gives them a chance to adjust their behaviour accordingly. It's important for dog owners to pay attention to growling and understand its context to address any underlying issues or prevent potential conflicts.
