SIT!
Why teach your dog to sit??
Sit is more important than you would think and not just a cool trick to do with your dog. A good sit has so many important benefits and can be used in several situations. Here are just 5 that spring to mind:
1) Want to teach your puppy to cross the road with you safely, waiting until you give the โAll clearโ before crossing โ Teach a good sit.
2) Want to stop your dog from jumping all over visitors to your house โ Teach a good sit.
3) Want you dog to wait patiently for their food to be prepared and placed down โ Teach a good sit.
4) Want your dog to sit nicely to be groomed โ Teach a good sit.
5) Want your dog to ignore the postman/neighbours walking past your house. โ Teach a good sit.
When I talk about good sit, this basically means a sit that lasts, a sit that still happens even when there are distractions and a sit that happens even when there is distance between you and the dog. Those can all be achieved when you give the โsitโ cue with the correct training.
Another form of sit is the Automatic sit where Doggo will sit because s/he thinks itโs the right thing to do. I call it the Nike approach to sit โ Just Do it! Dog should be thinking โIf in doubt, just sitโ, โIf I want something, just sitโ, โI want Dadโs attention, just sitโ.
Iโve recorded a video on all this which will be added to the group soon. Also... exciting times ahead! My YouTube channel will be good to go in the coming weeks. I'll post a link on here.
