Annual boys trip to the Mighty Long Water. Great group of guns, looked after as you’d expect from the team at Ampton.

Enjoyed having FTW Halorros Milkyway of MeareCastle picking duck after duck for us.

We even recreated the final water retrieves from the IGL 2021 across the lake - I reckon we’d have done alright 😉

(Shot ratio % was pretty spectacular too 😂💪)

Missed having and MD with us… next year perhaps…

UGS All Age Finals - Ampton 2024

Quinn wins award for best looking Lab 😎😉 (and 2nd overall in the trial)

Quinn qualified for the UGS All Age finals by winning the EC stake the week before. Running against the top three dogs from all of the other branches - the Finals is a prestigious event dating back nearly 100 years.

A very tough trial in wicked weather, Quinn was completely clean on all his retrieves along with one other dog at the end. Only a less than perfect dry run allowed him to be pipped into 2nd place. The winner was a quality dog handled and owned by Jason Mayhew- congratulations.

Very grateful to everyone involved 🙏

Massive congratulations to Gareth Wilson, who was awarded Norfolk & Suffolk HPR Field Trial Club’s ‘Handler of the Year’ award at our final monthly training session of the year yesterday.

In true N&S style, even a named storm didn’t put our handlers off and we had a fab turnout for training, followed by mulled wine, mince pies and our annual awards!

Gareth has worked incredibly hard with his two dogs, Tess (Korthals Griffon) and young Jango (GSP), travelling the length and breadth of the country for training, successfully competing in working tests and now Field Trialling with Tess!

The progress Gareth has made is fabulous and testament to his hard work, patience and determination - he is also equipped with the vital sense of humour that we all need to live with and train our beloved HPRs!

Super Stanley the 7 month Cocker came for his 3rd session today…what a little cracker he is 🤩

His lovely owners have implemented a few things and they’re making great progress. Engagement, focus - less reactive to other dogs - happy to work while Rush (lab) was helping …. Retrieving and hunting he’s really enjoying. Next sessions booked - can’t wait to see the progress 🙏

PS. Very tempted with a Cocker

Not often a day trialling is rough - but today was storm Darragh at Ampton - hell buh!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Soaked to the skin and freezing. Even the dogs had coats on. Birds went like rockets. Guns ran out of bullets. Ampton boys pulled out all the stops. Thanks to the UGS HBB branch for the All age Finals.

The GSPA extends a huge congratulations to Mr Jim Bird on his newly crowned GSP - Ft Ch Sutchest Isla .
At just 2 years of age and only running in a handful of trials Isla was awarded her first 1st place in Open on the glorious 12th of August on grouse and was awarded her second 1st in Open on 25th November on pheasant / partridge . A truly versatile HPR. Well done 👏 Jim Isla’s proud breeder owner and handler .

Good result at the UGS EC All Age stake at Ampton.

Very grateful that Halorros Milkyway of MeareCastle - Quinn was fortunate enough to win the trial being awarded the Posterngate Trophy. (First awarded and won in 1956 by The Hon J Grimston with Gorhambury Mingo.) With this win he qualifies for the UGS All Age Finals on Dec 7th.

A really nice trial, beautiful weather and some quality dog work - all helped by a serious team of guns. Thank you to our host, keeper, judges, competitors, award winners and the club. On we go.
—————————

Quinn has become a very solid operator, having been remarkably consistent while learning his trade.

In the 9 trials he’s run, he’s now been awarded -

•3rd
•2nd
•2nd
•1st Novice
•1st All Age
•Youngest Dog in Awards

Our friend and client had a great result at a trial on Duck in Belgium - report below 🏆

————————

“So drive was around 20-30 mins, i was number 9…

She was rock steady and quiet but also excited, so was happy.

It was really really cold, no ice on the water yet but the ducks retrieved from the water were allready frozen when picked..

First retrieve was straight forward in the water, was a quick and fast retrieve.

Second one same, on another place but in the water, again straight retrieve.

Third one was on the grass, a blind line of about 100 meter, again one straight line, stop and hunt whistle and she found it.

The fourth retrieve was the most beautiful one. 2 dogs were allready out on this one, i was the third called up for this duck.

Blind line (about 200 mtrs) straight to woods, and there she needed to find the last bird.

One command line and straight to the woods, gave her a lost signal, they thought it was more to the right but when she was looking there i saw her nose work and she ran to the left of the woods, was out of sight, when she came back in sight she had the duck! It was a runner with only a wing shot, so it was beautifully done by her and she eyewiped 2 dogs.

The last one was a diagonal retrieve through the water, think i lost the win there… she took the line but the water straight, she was in a place where another bird was picked so a lot of scent, however she listened well and pushed her 20 meters to the left where she picked the last bird.
Asked the judges where we went ‘wrong’ but the said she was really really good and it was just minor details, so think the last retrieve. The winner was also surprised and thought we should have won but whatever haha we have a qualificafion!!”
Love to hear it 🏆

Another super day trialling at the mighty Ampton.

Frosty and cold but the birds and game came just right.

Great laugh with some good friends - either competing, shooting or judging.

One dog in particular took a lovely runner - very lucky to be able to do it. Thanks UGS EC and all involved. hard luck 😉😎
