As a professional dog trainer, who has been working with the dogs of North Somerset for 15 years, Helen understands the need to tailor all walks to the individual needs of her canine clients. We are fully insured and canine first aid trained. Along side our dog training services, we are able to provide both solo and small group walks. We also offer dog training walks that are more training and enr

ichment based than our usual walks, these can be great for dogs who need a little more brain work or puppies who need that extra attention to learn about the world. We are also happy to provide training or enrichment home visits, to keep your four legged friend entertained and content whilst you are unable to be at home with them. My dogs have thoroughly enjoyed their Scottish adventures for the last couple of weeks! We are now back in sunny Somerset and I am looking forward to catching up with some of you tomorrow 😁

Helen’s Clever K9s is one year old today! So I just thought I would share some pics from the last year of walking adventures! Thanks to all for your support and for trusting me with your precious four legged friends! it’s been a year packed full of one to ones, enrichment classes and it feels like I’ve walked a million miles 😆

My youngest dog Glen and I attend a Training Club class with Halcyon Hounds each Sunday and one of our level four tasks has been to train a lie flat for handling and grooming behaviours, it’s such a good thing to teach! I’m always banging on about practicing handling in puppy classes and I can’t express how valuable time spent working on these things is long term, I’ve been building up to clipping Glen’s nails in the flat and today was his first proper nail clipping session, he’s such a good boy!

I have lots of lovely walking clients who are teachers, this works out amazingly as I then have more flexibility for my children over the summer but the downside is…..I’m now not going to see these little legends for six weeks 🥹 have a lovely summer little adventure bears!

Amazing focus from little Doris at Puppy training tonight ❤️ we worked on focus and confidence around distractions, drop and she did some brilliant recalls from moving distractions which is a big challenge for her!

I’ve been making a conscious effort recently to practise what a I preach and spend more quality time with each of my dogs as an individual, I feel this is so important when we have multi dog households, my dogs have lovely walks each day where they have fun and play together but I think they all appreciate a bit of time out with me by themselves and it definitely helps to solidify our training, but ultimately it’s just nice to hangout and watch the world go by sometimes! it was Kevin’s turn today 😁

I have some very rare dog walking availability for new dogs to join us on our adventures!

Some limited space for sociable dogs in our midday group walk and some space for one to one walks

I cover Pill, Portishead, Failand, Abbots Leigh, Nailsea but this is dependent on which time slot you are hoping for 🙂

All dogs are treated and loved as my own, groups are carefully matched and kept small, I’m fully insured and drive an air conditioned van fully kitted out with crash tested dog travel crates.

Three short training sessions with my dogs this morning, we are working on combining our hold and hand touch, this is one of the foundation behaviours that I like to have with all my dogs, I find once they understand this then they are on the way to understanding that they can multi-task, they can be really thoughtful in holding and interacting with an object and they are really starting to get the concept of duration, it also helps me long term to get a really targeted retrieve so we can start to work on complex tricks or task work.

Filming helps me to understanding where I can clean up my training as these videos are far from perfect! The enthusiasm is present with each dog though which is the key thing for me at this point!

Land wanted!
I am after a field or some land to rent by the hour for tracking training, ideally so that I can hold workshops and regular training, but at this point even just land for me to just train our own dogs as Ryan is training for Deer stalking and recovery and we need to be able to work them in different locations.
I don't need any facilities except permission to be there, parking nearby would be a bonus!
All dogs are tracked on a long line so no danger to livestock in the locality and we are very responsible and conscientious with any land we use.
At the moment I pay £15 per hour and would be hoping to pay similar. If you have something or any suggestions we would love to hear from you!

We still have some spaces available in both our PUPPY and LIFE SKILLS classes starting on the 16th of May at Portbury Village Hall, both classes focus on teaching valuable behaviours and building great relationships between owner and dog. With some fun and brain games thrown in!

Here is my round with Kev, didn’t get a video of Bobbie, we are used to working on grass and as soon as I threw that dumbbell and it landed off the matt I knew we were going to lose points for a slide, as Kev is far too enthusiastic about his outrun for retrieve 😂

‘Tell me a secret’

Trick dog folk, Bobbie and I have also been working on tell me a secret, it pays off to spend some time working on the foundations of a hand target with duration to get it looking really polished, we’ve been working for a little while now at getting a really confident target close to my face….. next step is to fade out the luring hand at the beginning :) please excuse how poor quality this video is!

Kevin is starting to get into the festive spirit 🤣

Kevin is starting to feel festive! As simple as this trick is, it was taught in lots of little steps, getting him used to paw targeting and making sure he was confident setting off something that made a loud noise (thank you kids)!

Starting some indication training with little Cheddar

Lots of fun with my little old lady today, finished a session with the big dogs and she was asking to train too, so we did a little bit of training towards a scentwork indication, this is her first time targeting the cone and she was a little super star, so looks like I have another little scentwork dog to train 🥰

We’ve had a little road trip today down to the Eye2Eye secure paddock ❤️ it’s so nice to be able to use facilities like this and our favourites are this one and Cleeve Secure Paddock. Secure paddocks can be invaluable when exercising reactive dogs or practicing recall!
