I love it when there's time in a lesson to work one of my own dogs.
Willow is very green and has taken to Cani sports very well....so now its time to work her nose. I love seeing her learn to solve problems and it gives me a chance to blow away the handling cobwebs. π

The proximity alert - Verb
'The body language from the trailing dog that indicates that it is closing the gap with the trail layer, often displayed by excitable behaviour prior to locating its target'
Where she goes....I go

Your dogs nose is the one of the most advanced scent detection devices on the planet!
When detecting odours, dogs sniff approx 2-3 times a second to maximise scent intake and when they exhale the air it is discarded through the side slits in order to keep the nostrils clear and unobstructed. The curved shape of these slits also create turbulence which allows new air intake to go directly into the centre of the nostril maximising scent detection.
The really clever bit is they can use their nostrils independently, often twitching them rapidly to identify the stronger concentration of scent which of course is why they are able to determine direction of travel of a trail or proximity alerting on a scent pool....and sometimes locating squirrels πΏπΎ
Heres Noodle showing you how its done.....thanks Noodle.

I love the focus and detailed working here including the scent pool in the courtyard!
Maximum line length was crucial to give the dog space and time to work out the scent pool problem without feeling pressured or pushed by the handler. Well done Sarah.
After the Christmas day hike my brother suggested the plunge barrel to soothe my aching legs.....π€
5 degrees! It took my breath away!!!!!!!
I'm so pleased we managed to iron out the issues with the starts....and the middle....and the end...
This contaminated start was handled with ease from young Tippex. Well done Suzanne Swallow this is a solid performance.
Loving the indication on both the gate and door!
Having an opportunity to be involved in the development of young people is a great privilege and so I was very excited when I was asked to work alongside Jess at JUK9 to develop and train a young handler an her 8 month old Belgian Malinois.
Izzy and her Mali Blue are an incredible team with Izzy as a young handler having such a great attitude towards her training, committed and focussed are going to go far for sure.
Izzy and Blue are already working at a great level of obedience, working towards and protection dog qualification and with me developing Blue's trailing skills.
At 8 months old, Blue is showing so much aptitude and Izzy learning on every trail.
Keep up the good work.
