We were contacted by Mila and Denni, who fell in love with a stray Giorgio and want to do everything to help him. Luckily they were able to find a home for him in France. Let's help him to get there via financing his travel there. Below is the message in English with details:
Hello everyone,
We are Mila and Denni, from the Un Monde à Vélo blog. We are currently cycling in Georgia after leaving Italy by bicycle on May 17, 2021. On our route, we have already taken Ringo, a few weeks old puppy who is growing day by day by our side. Recently, a second dog adopted us and we decided to do everything to give him a better life.
"A DONATION OF 7 € = A DAY OF CARE IN THE REFUGE FOR THE LITTLE WOLF!"
Why save Giorgio?
Because he is so determined to call on us for help!
We gave him a hug the night before as he was hanging out in front of the guesthouse where we were sleeping. The next two days, he followed us for more than 100km. We tried to put some distance because we didn't want him to stray too far from his place of life. He followed anyway, at an average of 20km / h and over 70km, in pouring rain. A real feat!
That day, he slept outside our tent all night, still in the rain (the worst day of our weather trip). But he stayed there when he had many places to take refuge. He even protected us all night from the many people who passed near the camp.
This determination to follow us for a simple caress tells us a lot about the lack of affection. He made us want to help him. We, therefore, contacted the Help a Georgian Stray association which has taken care of it for the moment (and has been sending us very reassuring news of the little wolf regularly since). A family is ready to welcome him to France. The asso carries out the entire procedure to put it in order. However, all of this will come at a fairly significant cost.
So for those who wish to help us in the process, we have opened a collection to get Giorgio (I assure you, his future owner will name him differently) from the street! A donation of € 7 allows him to stay one more day at the refuge.
What will the money collected be used for?
- Giorgio needs to be vaccinated, chipped, dewormed and be in good health to be able to travel. He will also need a passport. (Partly covered by the association, around 100 € for the part not covered)
- These procedures take time and he is currently being collected in a shelter where he is well treated, in good company and fed. But he has to stay there for about 3 months, which comes at a cost (about 7 € per day - 650 €).
- Then, you will have to pay him a plane ticket as well as a transport case to be able to transfer him to France (about 300 €) to find a volunteer who agrees to accompany him on the flight from Tbilisi to Paris.
- Finally, we have to reimburse the taxi that came to pick up Giorgio from Tbilisi in Kutaisi (around € 50)
In total, the cost of its adoption will amount to approximately € 1,100 - 1,200.
Although she has offered to cover several costs, this cost cannot be borne solely by the Georgian Association, a country where the average salary is € 278. Nor by the future owner of the little wolf because it is a very substantial budget. If we could lighten them with part of the budget, that would be great!
Why not just drop him off in a Georgian refuge?
We have thought about it, however, there are tens of thousands of street dogs in the country. The town we wanted to reach had a shelter, but very recently it got bad press regarding the treatment of animals. We still preferred to leave the little wolf in the street at this point.
This is why we contacted the Help a Georgian Stray association. We found this to be the most concrete way to help Giorgio!
And given the videos we have received from him since he has been at the shelter, we do not regret having chosen this solution.
