Importance of Acidifying the Drinking Water you give to your Pigs

Water is the most vital nutrient, and healthy pigs consume twice as much water as they do solid feed. Water acidification has an antibacterial benefit and encourages the development of fewer pathogens in your pig's digestive tract. It also improves feed digestion.

When adding acidifiers in drinking water, the general target acidity is pH 4. This is because pathogenic bacteria cannot survive at this pH and water intake is not yet jeopardized.

Formic acid or propionic acid is particularly good in controlling E.coli and Salmonella, whereas lactic acid and butyric acid are important in promoting healthy lactobacilli in the gut microbiota.
(Dosing your pig's drinking water with a reasonable amount of apple cider vinegar is the first step to water acidification. Apart from that, let your vet officer give you more good options).
