Abir Animal Shelter Animal shelter Hello everyone! All of the rescued animals here were found on the streets of Athens and had been either abandoned, neglected, or abused.

My name is Abir Wazzan, and I run a small sanctuary near Athens with a few volunteers where I care for approximately 70 dogs and 30 cats rescued from the streets. Our sanctuary provides a safe haven for these animals, ensuring they receive proper medical care, food, and plenty of love and attention. Through our dedicated team of volunteers, we strive to find forever homes for each of these animals

, promoting responsible pet ownership within the community. Until the COVID-19 crisis, I had a well-paying job and could support all of the animals on my own. However, due to the pandemic, I lost my job and now rely solely on donations and the help of our dedicated volunteers to continue providing for these animals. Despite the challenges we face, we remain committed to giving these animals the best possible life and finding them loving families. I've never thought that I would be unable to provide for them by myself and had to beg for help in my life, and I'm completely devastated by unforeseen financial hardships, forcing me to reach out for assistance in order to ensure the well-being of these animals. It is a humbling experience, but I am grateful for the support we have received thus far and remain hopeful that we can find a way to overcome this crisis together. Through this page, I share updates on the animals' needs and their progress, hoping to garner support from those who are willing to contribute in any way they can. Help comes in many different forms, and every donation, no matter how small, makes a significant difference in ensuring that these animals receive the care they deserve. Together, we can make a positive impact on their lives and hopefully find them the loving families they deserve. They are grateful, loving souls. Today it was Shakira's turn to go to the vet! She was so good, our amazing old lady. She has a mass on her leg that needs to be removed. Today, we did blood tests and a scan for her. Unfortunately, her bladder doesn't look good. Her urine will be tested, and of course, we will also check her kidneys. Once we have the test results, she will get the medication she needs, and we will schedule her operation. The total cost for the exams was €110.

Lou came back from the vet, missing a couple of teeth, but with a completely clean mouth and he is relieved! He will be on antibiotics and soft food for a couple of days, and we need to continue with his heart medication. He ate right away!
