‼️TRANSFORMATION WEDNESDAY ‼️

A few months back, we had recieved a report of a sick pup at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School. He we found with severe mange and a heavy internal parasite infestation.

He was taken in by our Executive Member, Vijay who named him Skip. After several vet visits, he slowly started to show signs of improvement.

Today, he has made a full recovery and is unrecognizable from what he used to be.

When you donate to us, these are they lives you are helping us to transform.

We cannot save them all, but we would not stop trying to.

This poor calf was involved in an accident where its leg was broken. Because no one even cared to pay it no mind, the poor calf was left there all day.

Our representative visited the scene and assessed the situation. The vet was called and the animals was humanely put down. Thank you to Dr. Farley for your timely response.

If you see an animal that was involved in an accident and it's still alive please contact your nearest vet for advice. Let's not see animals punishing and ignore it. You can even message our page and we will try our best to assist with the situation.

This is your reminder that our Boardwalk Princess, Lucy, is a free living soul.

She enjoys the fresh air of the open seawall where she gets to greet visitors, receive lots of head scratches and the occasional treats.

Drop by the Kingstown Seawall area to say hi to Lucy and even snap a Pic with her but leave her there.

‼️SALT TOXICITY IN PETS‼️

Believe it or not, table salt can actually be toxic to pets.

Salt, or sodium, is a necessity for humans – it helps maintain the nervous system and it makes food taste great.

But should pets eat salt? Will salt help pets' food taste better? Pets can eat salt – but like with humans – salt should be eaten in moderation.

Do not salt your pet’s food because that is too much salt for them.

‼️Even small amount of salt in the diet over a prolonged period can result in Kidney damage.‼️

Toxic doses of salt for pets are around 1.5 g/lb of body weight. Let's assume your dog weighs 30 lbs, this means that 45g of salt will cause serious toxicity issue in that dog.

Dogs that have consumed too much salt can result in the following symptoms:

-Fluid retention(body swells)

-Vomiting

-Diarrhea

-Excessive thirst

- Seizures

-Bloating(belly swells and becomes painful)

-Stiffness and cramps

-Death

Some human foods that contain excess amounts of salt and should not be fed or fed in moderation to your pets:

-French fries from fast food outlets.

- Pack snacks ( cheese sticks, bigfoot, tortilla, cheese it etc)

- Seasoning cubes, MSG (Aji) and other seasoning mix. (You do not need to add these to your dog food.)

- Cheese and cheesy foods(cheddar, feta, Edan, pizza, lasagna)

- Processed meats ( ham, salami, sausages etc)

Remember the oxic doses of salt for pets is about 1.5 g/lb of body weight. If your pet is experiencing salt poisoning, make sure to give them plenty of fresh water and get them to a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Keep in mind, moderation is the key to prevent salt toxicity and long term organ damage in both you and your pets!

Over the past few weeks, there has been an increased in the number of calls from owners who either has kittens to donate to the shelter, kittens to drop off at the shelter or kittens to give away. When we inform them of the lack of space, they start pointing fingers!

Then they are those who don't reach out because they choose to dump the kitten at some road corner or in front of a rescuer home.

Others are more sinister, they kill the kittens.

But the moment you mention to get the mother spayed, the excuses are too many.

Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) is a viral disease of dogs that is transmitted during mating. This virus causes tumors to grow on the va**na, p***s, mouth, throat and sometimes nose.

Treatment consists of vigorous chemotherapy lasting a few weeks and sometimes coupled with surgery to remove the tumors. There is no vaccine available.

This disease is 100% preventable; by spaying and neutering your pets!

‼️FOOD FOR THOUGHT ‼️

As animal rescuers, we wish to save them all. We wish that many folks will shoulder their responsibilities as a pet owner.

However, learning to say no without feeling any regret or guilt afterwards is a necessary skill if you, as a rescuer, wish to remain sane. You need to set your boundaries and when you reach your limit, don't be afraid to say no.

Compassion fatigue is real and it will wreck your mental, physical and emotional health!

Your role should be to educate and encourage pet owners about their role and responsibilities, not shoulder them!

‼️ HACHI: A DOG'S TALE‼️

It's a movie that all should watch! It speaks volumes about the loyalty of a dog!

Last pic of Hachiko, the most faithful dog who waited for his master’s return in the same location every single day for around ten years until he too passed away. ♥️🐾🐾

The movie Hachi: A Dog’s Tale starring Richard Gere is based on the true story of Hachiko.

‼️ ATTENTION DRIVERS‼️

Before 12 PM today, we received a total of 9 calls to respond to animals that are injured after being hit by a vehicle. It's an impossible task for us to respond to each report since they are dispersed along the coast and even one as far as Linden.

While we are aware that the roadways are no place for animals to be, and its owners' responsibility to keep their animals secured, we are pleading with motorists to be a bit more mindful of the presence of animals on the roadways.

Being a vigilant driver saves you from expenses and saves the life of an animal and or human.

We advise motorists to:

☑️ Remain focused on road, scanning for hazards such as animals.

☑️ Avoid distractions like using your cell phones, which might cause you to miss seeing an animal ahead.

☑️ Drive within the speed limit which will give you enough time to observe a hazard ahead and take appropriate actions.

☑️ Brake if you can, but avoid swerving, which could result in a more severe crash.

☑️ Be extra careful during the hours of darkness as larger animals seek out the roadways for warmth. Use your high beams when possible, to see farther ahead.

Remember being a careful and vigilant driver saves lives!

‼️HELP NEEDED ‼️

On Saturday November 18, one of our volunteers was transporting this dog from Bath Settlement to the clinic in Golden Fleece, West Coast Berbice.

However, upon arriving at the clinic, the carrier was opened in the car and when the car door was opened, she made a mad dash for it. She ran through some streets and he was unable to get her and about 2 hours of searching. She simply disappeared, maybe hiding in plain sight.

He went back on Sunday but, unfortunately, he was unable to find her.

As such we are asking the public's help in trying to find her as she needs urgent medical care.

She is somewhere around the Golden Fleece or its environment. If you see her kindly contact us via inbox or call 681-8531.

Kindly share!

About Us

Animal Rescue, Adoption, and Protection Society (ARAPS) emerged out of a pursuit to protect and support animals, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in November 2019, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold steps, and a strong foundation of support for all animals.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks for those who cannot speak for themselves. As a team, our efforts are driven by being “A voice for the voiceless!”- Animals. We believe in saving the lives of many animals with intentions of finding them forever homes and none of this would be possible without the support of people like you. Contact us to learn more and to get involved - www.araps.org.
