We need to normalise “dog selective” dogs. 🐕 (Swipe for more info!!) 👉

I’ve had so many clients recently who are upset or worried that their dog is selective. Maybe they dislike undesexed males in their space, get upset when other dogs steal their tennis balls, can’t be around small dogs, or have just a couple dog friends.

👉These dogs are NORMAL! But we see super social dogs everywhere, and think that’s because they’re so common. They’re not. They’re just the ones we see - because they’re the ones who thrive in big public park environments!

MOST of our dogs are selective and have some criteria for who they want to hang out with and how. Just like some people want to go to a junk boat party, and other people prefer to read a book at a quiet cafe. Those things are both ok!

If you have a selective dog, don’t worry. You are NOT alone!!

最近好多主人都很苦惱或擔心他們的狗不跟其他狗玩。或者他們不喜歡未絕育的男仔狗進入他們的領地，當其他狗狗偷了他們的波波時感到不安，不能與小狗相處，或只有幾個狗朋友。

👉這些狗是正常的！但是我們到處都可以看到超級社交的狗，認為這是因為它們很普遍。它們不是。只有因為他們是在公園環境中茁壯成長的狗，所以我們才能看到它們！

大多數狗實質上都是有選擇性的，並且對於他們想和誰以及如何相處有一些標準。就像有些人想去參加party，而其他人更喜歡在安靜的咖啡館裡看書。這些都是沒問題的！

如果你有一只有選擇性的狗，不要擔心。You are not alone！

（中文下面）If you're not addressing the root of your dog's issues, their choices are not going to change the way you want them to.

You might be able to suppress the behaviors with punishment, but the dog is either going to do the poor action sooner next time or skip that level of warning and go to the next level.

Focus on what you do want them to do. Identify the root of their issues and address the feeling that triggers the behavior.

Training Day ☀️ “Shy” is a word that many people use to describe dogs who are fearful. Most often this “shyness” is a fear of strangers, but it can also be fear of new places, being handled, sudden movements or noises, other dogs or cats — or just about anything unfamiliar. Here, we’re helping Beans to gain confidence in various situations.

"If you asked me 10 years ago what the most important part of dog ownership was, I would have said obedience. Various media and outspoken people had tricked me into believing that. My dog back then was obedient, but I was more punitive when my dog ‘did something wrong’ and overall it was less fun.

Fast forward to how I train today (positive reinforcement based training) and an interesting side effect is Brae is more obedient than I ever thought possible."
