Exactly TWO years after I first found FREDDIE, I have just found the photos! 30th September, 2018...
What a difference 2 years make!
As you can see, his eyes were both sore. One had been worse but had cleaned up ok.. He ate well at first, and was sociable, but then as the days went by, he became withdrawn, less social, and I worried he was in pain...but then I had to leave.
He stayed inside for a further 5 months until he was released into the marina...His foster mum could no longer afford the room he shared with other rescue kittens...
Unfortunately, during that following year until I scooped him up to come to the UK in Feb 2020, his right eye totally disintegrated and folded into itself...
Now he has grown into a confident, affectionate, healthy, beautiful, fat boy with dazzling white fur and zingy ginger patches!
But that eye still bothers him and its a constant possible source of infection.
Right now, we have raised exactly 50% of the funds needed to remove the eye to prepare him for adoption.
Will you help us nudge Freddie towards full health?

Hopefully I have added the gofundme link correctly so you can check it out!
Thank you in advance from Freddie and us!!

I found Freddie as young kitten of 2-3 months old, during a sterilisation marathon, with a whole load of cats of all ages, living in and around some bins near a restaurant on the river. A local old neighbour fed them but had never sterilised any of them and there were cats everywhere, many with shocking eyes similar to Freddie's. I caught him, took him to the vets, and thereafter he stayed with Sanda, a local cat rescuer, at first in a small, bare room, and then in the grounds of the marina, getting fed by her every day, with many other cats.
Initially, after the shock of capture, he enjoyed his treatment but of course, that soon wears off, and he suffered with this painful annoyance and lack of proper vision. His eye unfortunately has had little attention in the 18 months since.
Again, it is an eye that is now useless, and painful, but an operation to remove it was deemed just aesthetic in Croatia.
In Croatia, pre-travel, he cohabited with 3 small dogs and was not too bothered by them. On the trip over, he was often vocal, but after a short explore and some food, he would settle down and sleep well.
We feel, as has been seen before, that once removed, and he is pain-free, that he will be able to live a happier life and become more trusting. His foster mum loves him, and he settled in well. He has discovered the joys of cat toys, and plays endlessly!
He has a gentle, yet understandably wary nature considering his disability, and he enjoys giving nudges and being petted.
We are investigating surgery options at present (expensive (! :-O ) and once recovered, will be searching for a forever home for him.
We request a £100 adoption fee from his future owner to help pay for his pre-trip vet fees for chip, passport, rabies vaccine, and travel costs.

UPDATE : ADOPTED 💜 Lovely Marina has gone on Friday to her forever home! We are so happy for her and think she will love some supervised use of a lovely fenced garden space. Her new family sadly lost their cat in March so we’re missing having some feline company. Yay Marina !

UPDATE: Lovely Marina went Friday to her forever home! She off to a lovely local couple to see if she fits in! So far she seems to have made herself right at home!

Big thank you for all the interest to adopt Marina. Hard to do home checks at the mo, and assess who may best fit her nature from the various options, but we believe we have found a lovely couple, who lost their cat in March..
She will go in pre-adoption trial end of next week 🙏😊🐈🐱

Happy Update - SAMSON is on his way to his new forever home in Ayr with Rosie at Specialcats of Ayr!

Sadly, it seems that SAMSON would really rather have his humans all to himself. Although he gets on great with Kasper, there's friction with his new owner's other cats. So we are now looking again for a FOSTER or FOREVER HOME for him...
Current location:- Edinburgh. Samson is approx 3.5 years old, castrated, chipped, vaccinated but has issues with an injured foot that means that he limps and favours the other leg. He is very affectionate and loves tummy rubs😊

UPDATE from new forever mum, Paula!
"We've had a great first week with Lisa and Bart (Lee). Bart is very sociable, always hungry but can fall asleep anywhere in 2 seconds flat. Lisa was shy at first but has grown more confident daily. She is a fantastic gymnast, extremely loving when she wants to be and has the sweetest meow. We feel very lucky to have them!"

*************************************************

- LEE and his best buddy, LISA, are spending their first night in their new home, tonight May 16th!
We hope it is a good match and that the trial period goes well!
It´s a super family who lost their 20 yr old cat earlier this year. We think their 2 teenage children will love his playfulness.
The family have also offered to pay for his bad eye to be removed, and as it seems to have shrunk and got worse, we can´t thank them enough.

MASSIVE thanks go to Jenna and partner, their foster parents for the last three months. For sure, their home will be quieter tonight. Thank you so much for giving them both a wonderful opportunity to find a new life! You are very much a part of their happy ending! And thank you both so much for their care package for arriving at their new place! ###

LEE has enjoyed a wonderful time in London at his foster home. Happily, the couple are expecting the arrival of twins so we need to find him a new foster or forever home to share his playfulness and character rather urgently!!

LEE is pure entertainment and would suit a family who like to be interactive with their cat! He is curious, playful, affectionate.. if he doesn't get attention, he turns on a hilarious teenage-style tantrum as you will see from the videos posted in the Videos section of the page! It is an innocent naughty though, not evil! He is adventurous and fearless, despite having sight in only 1 eye!
Right now, the vet is happy that he does not have much pain from his bad eye so eye drops just keep it moist for now. We will help raise the necessary funds for his eye removal once a fairly priced quote has been found as sadly this was not done in time before leaving his homeland of Croatia.
Both he and his best buddy Lisa are looking for their forever home. They can be adopted together or separately as they both have big personalities. However we feel that Lee would not deal well being left alone all day without a playmate.
£100 adoption fee is requested towards the pre-trip vet costs of vaccines, chip, passport etc, plus his travel. Their present location is London

SUUPER happy that a wonderful home for LISA came up with the added bonus that LEE was going too! Super foster mum Jenna, and partner drove them down to Brighton a couple of weeks ago, and after a brief stop with Kimberly, where they caught up with fellow Dubrovnik rescue buddy Cupko, they headed to their new home.

One week in, and the entire house has been explored! Lisa was a little shy at first, but is affectionate and playful with her new family. They have truly landed on their feet, as their last cat was almost 20 when she passed away!

**************************************************

LISA is a diva! Full of fun and character, she demands attention, and provides lots of entertainment! She is not one to fade into the background or be quiet in the corner!
She had a patch of cloudiness in one eye, caused by an ulcer, which has practically disappeared, thanks to foster mum Jenna´s application of eye drops for the last few months. She is unaware of it and it doesn't slow her down!

LISA came from a foster home in Croatia with many cats, and proved herself to be a social cat. Right now, she shares her foster home with best buddy, Lee and the resident cat. Of course, it would be fabulous if they stayed together, but they are both big enough personalities to cope going it alone!

We request from adopters 100 GBP towards her travel costs and vet bills which covered sterilisation, rabies shot, chip, passport, de-flea pipette and worming tablet.
LISA has finished her vaccines and so has been very happy to get outside finally. We feel she would not cope well with being a purely indoor cat
In the present situation, home checks may have to happen virtually! Please contact us for more details :-)

Today is a GOOOOOD DAY!!!
Because Lisa and Lee have travelled to their new home today!!! 🥳👊👏💪🥂🥳
A super cat-mad family who recently lost their 20 yr old cat, with 2 teenage kids, lovely quiet village location with fields around to explore.
We think these 2 cheeky monkeys will be a good match for the teenage kids! 🙈🙉🙊😻😹
And they are open to paying for Lee´s eye op which will be investigated this week! (Pinch me!😆)
Soo happy they will be able to stay together!
Thank you so much to Jenna and partner for being AMAZING foster parents, being their stepping stone to this long-awaited day! 😻😽💖
And to Kimberly for mediating the handover...(They even got to visit with Cupko for a short while today!)
Of course, everyone needs to settle in a bit, but for now... BIG grins!! 😁

• UPDATE • well our little Čupko has been a slow but steady healer ! He got his collar off and has been exploring the garden with his new eyes ! He’s still on some eye drops and he has another check in a month! Thanks for my new pain free eyes ! 💜 čupko !

We do still have an outstanding bill for the cost of this emergency surgery - if you could spare a little to help us pay off his new eyes!?

7 cats find their new life in the UK!

Having successfully brought 11 cats & kittens from Dubrovnik to the UK in December 2018, it was time to do it again! This trip, however, was fraught with problems almost immediately as the rented campervan broke down twice, we had to return for a new one, and lost a week.

Arriving finally in Dubrovnik, we found many misunderstandings on trip preparation, mostly due to vet inexperience, and cultural difference/lack of funds. We ran around getting passports completed, FIV/FELV tests done (all negative :-)) and first vaccines done. The UK association SOS Dubrovnik Cats were super in supporting us with some tests and flea/worming treatments. Rather annoyingly, several cats are in need of eye surgery, which would have been a quarter of the price in Croatia. But the prevailing view of most vets there was that it was just aesthetics, no surgery needed. On seeing them, we realised many were in unnecessary pain or discomfort. But there was no time left. The blind dog meant to travel with us, also lost his forever home, and was going to stay in the dog shelter. And 2 further cats were too ill/wild/ unready to travel, so it was with just 7 cats that we hurriedly set off on the 2,140 kilometres back to the UK.

On the way, we visited an eye specialist in Zadar, who felt most of the eye infections were due to herpes virus - a fact that then lost us 3 forever homes or fosters. By that time, we were in southern Germany and not enough time to return and get it all sorted cheaply in Croatia, for a return trip....

All 7 cats are settled in the UK - 2 in forever homes, 1 at Pudz Sanctuary for special needs animals, and 4 still in foster. This past month has given us time to get vaccines properly sorted, and diagnoses and quotes for treatment/surgeries needed.
