Farm to table has been bountiful this spring/summer and I’m grateful to have started this food garden. Fed my family and friends, and honestly what could be more fulfilling?

I know those of us who have gardens really feel so good to bring these to life, we even forget how tough the road to growing something is at times.

The beautiful journey of farm to table. When I planted the seedlings for melon, I didn’t imagine so many plants would make it and I certainly didn’t think we would be eating them now. Garden success tastes so sweet!

Used to visit a rose farm, have cake and tea and smell all the roses possible. While having a rose in my hair!

I didn’t do much work to research the growing of roses, just read here and there. I wanted to learn from experience. So it’s been great to see these roses bloom.

After killing my last seedlings, I didn’t want to talk about this batch and did everything differently. And they look like they are thriving! So, almost everything is in my garden for the season.

The garden is now short of cucumbers, strawberries and more tomatoes which I’m planning to buy over the weekend!

I am most looking forward to when everything will be in bloom and we can see more clearly what’s in the garden. Truly exciting!

From my hands came these flowers which finally bloomed. If you’ve been following, then you know it’s been a journey filled with some fails to get my tulip patch growing. And while I was helping my cat Zuri give birth to her first kittens, my tulips bloomed. It can’t have been more magical than this.

I’ve learned so many lessons about growing tulips and I’m already excited about trying again next season and taking it up a notch. Farm life is definitely about trial and error and I’m a keen student of the earth.

An unexpected snow fall over the weekend and a sharp drop in temperatures. I haven’t planted vegetables in my outside garden, but I have some flowers. Still waiting, hoping to see what these tulips will bear. A lesson in letting go.

Today we welcome the first Spring rains! To the greener days ahead.

The easy part is done. Planting spinach, cucumber, rocket and beetroot seedlings, giving them good soil and watering, then waiting for them to sprout. For me, it seems the hard part is starting. Making sure they survive, grow strong enough to be moved to the garden.

Some notes on starting seeds: 1. while using egg cartons is cool, it’s not practical because it’s clear I will have to move the sprouts soon as they will outgrow the space quickly.
2. can’t start seeds indoors again as I don’t have enough light and sunshine for them.
3. put less seedlings in a hole! Because some of my seedlings were quite old, I thought most won’t sprout. But lo and behold, most of them did and now my sprouts are stacked. Will see as they grow bigger how to resolve this.

It was a great hosting a few ladies for an afternoon of horse riding, food and drinks. We enjoyed it so much, we might just open the farm for more people to come enjoy a day with us 😆
