Those who loved the 2.4 mini pre-contoured TPLO polyaxial plates will be very happy now, because the mini version is finally here, in 2.0 size! This was measured in 3-7 kg dogs, where carnial cruciate ligament rupture are very common, and the effectiveness of TPLO far exceeds the extracapsular solution. Designed for R12 or R10 blades. The holes accommodate both Smartvet locking 2.0 and traditional cortical screws, but even 2.4 threaded screws if you need to increase stability! Therefore, the transition between the 2.0 and 2.4 mini systems is free, giving the surgeon maximum freedom to perform the operation successfully.

What used to be a nightmare type of surgery is slowly becoming my favorite: the humerus distal Y fracture
Yesterday, we operated on a Y fracture of the humerus of a 9-month-old French bulldog dog, where we used a cutable mini polyaxial straight plate (materia thickness 2.0 mm) and 2.4 polyaxial screws.
The fracture was favorable, the bone was not too fragmented, so we were able to plate the medial side easily, then turning the dog over, were placed the lateral fragment as well and fixed it with a 2.4 intercondylar lag screw and with a shorter straight plate. It was very easy to work with the new plate, the surgery time was less than 2 hours. The stability is there, we placed a blindplug (screw head) in the lateral empty holes so that there is no weak point on the plate. The plate has mini polyax holes in which 2.4 and 2.0 polyax screws can be inserted (mini, 2.0-2.4 polyax system).
This plate arrangement and size is excellent for the treatment of the so common French bulldog humeral Y fractures.

TPLO-M in size 2.7
1,5 year old 13 kg mix dog underwent surgery today due to cranial cruciate ligament rupture and concomitant grade 3/4 medial patella luxation. During surgery, lateral tightening and medial loosening of the joint capsule (without opening the capsule) was performed. In the first phase of surgery, the 26-degree TPA was corrected simultaneously with the medial transposition of the proximal fragment. An R18 TPLO blade was used and the step and the rotation was fixed with a 2.7 precontured TPLO plate. The big curvature of the precontured plate provided an opportunity for placement without further conuring of the plate. The plate was temporarily fixed to the bone surface with two 1.2 K-nails using holes for temporary fixation. The distal piece was first stabilized with two locking screws. An AO 2,7mm srew was placed in the cranial hole of the proximal piece, which was able to create a significant tuberositas tibiae shift by tightening and simultaneously removing the temporaly, rotation stabilizing K-wire. Polyaxial locking screws are inserted into the remaining holes.
Thus, during surgery, we successfully applied a member of the precontured plate family designed for 2.7 mm screws for TPLO-M surgery.
TPLO-M surgery with so-called “terraced” plates in 2.0 and 2.4mm sizes have been described previously.

The NEW pre-contoured polyaxial locking TPLO plate family:

One of the most important goals in the development of TPLO plates is, in addition to maximum stability, the simplest possible use, to facilitate the work of the surgeon, and to shorten the surgical time. Intraoperative modeling of plates often requires serious physical force, due to the deformation of the plate, weak points are formed in its material, which can lead to breakage of the plate or loss of lockig stability due to deformation of the holes. It can also lead to breakage of srews.
It is therefore advantageous to bend the plates in advance, conture them according to the anatomical shape, and then drill the holes. In most cases, the plates made in this way fit perfectly on the surface of the tibia, and the screws can be placed in the holes at the most optimal angle for maximum stability. Minor deviations in the fit of the plate to the bone surface do not need to be corrected for further intaraoperative curvature of the plate due to locking stability. And the polyaxiality allows you to choose the most optimal direction for inserting the screws.
The precontoured plates are designed so that using the monoaxial drill guide, all screws will be parallel to the plane of the tibial plateau, thus avoiding the screw being inserted into the joint and creating a screw-plate connection with maximum stability.
