🚨 Urgent donations needed to stock up on food supplies for Bali’s dogs 🚨

Every single day our team is out in the remote streets of Kediri in Tabanan Bali to bring food relief to dogs. For many it is the only life line there is as they would have no other way to survive.

We are not only providing for strays who live their lives in the streets, fields or markets, but we are also supporting local families, who struggle to feed their pets a basic meal per day.

Many of those dogs we care for since months and even years. We have vaccinated and sterilized all and we keep them healthy and fed. Others are newly added recruits who we discover while going from one village to the next to provide our free spay and neuter program.

In combination with our medical and sterilization aid, the street feeding tour remains the most essential part in our life-saving work for Bali’s animals. But it is only with your help that we are able to sustain to keep these animals alive.

We are trying to help as many as we can with the resources we have available. But when the food runs out, the animals miss out, and we are now coming dangerously close to our last bags.

Please keep the donations coming to help keep our street feeding program alive. It is the most important lifeline for many who would have no other way to find a sustaining meal or to eat at all.

Click the link in our bio and donate food for the ones who need it the most. All what is given to us to help them is so very much appreciated.

And if you are not in the position to send relief for the dogs and cats in form of funds, please share our posts to people that may can.

Thank you so much. We can’t do it without you. 🙏🏻

Love for Bali Dogs from around the world 🌎

A HUGE THANK YOU to each and every one of our wonderful friends and supporters who came to visit us and our rescues in Bali those past couple of weeks.

We are beyond grateful to be welcoming you all. Without your love, time and generosity we would not be able to continue our mission in helping Bali’s animals.

The day-to-day reality of rescuing dogs is harsh, but we do this with all our hearts. To have you coming along on this journey with us, is truly humbling.

We see every one of you. You, who like, comment and share our posts. You, who are sending us supportive and encouraging messages when times are getting tough. You, who visit us giving so much love and attention to our rescues and bringing over much needed supplies. And you who support us from far.

We are so very grateful to have you all by our side. We couldn’t do what we do without you.

Much love from the entire Little Steps Matter family. 🫶🏻❤️

Moli survived cancer thanks to your support ❤️‍🩹

Back in January we introduced you to Moli, a 1.5 years old male dog who had the most severe case in TVT we had ever seen in such young dogs.

Not being neutered at that time, he contracted this sexual transmitted disease through direct skin-to-skin contact while mating.

Sadly it left Moli completely riddled in Transmissible Venereal Tumors (TVT) that grew from the inside of his ge****ls through his nose, gums and to the entirety of his body. Without treatment the cancer would have metastasized further and eventually taken his life.

Thankfully for him our paths crossed and we were able to provide him the medical care that he needed.

Only two months and five chemotherapy sessions later, he was cleared of cancer and declared healthy. We dewormed, vaccinated and neutered him to prevent reinfection in the future.

To everyone who supported us to save his life, kindly receive a huge THANK YOU from us all. Helping Moli was only possible in togetherness with you.

TVT is highly contagious in dogs. And with still so many unsterilized and free roaming animals on the island, it transfers quickly throughout the population of dogs.

Unfortunately more and more reports of TVT cases are coming in. We are doing everything possible to provide treatment one by one for as many as possible. But we urgently need funding to be able to cure them and to put a stop to this illness.

Please help us to ensure that more dogs just like Moli survive this cancer. 🙏🏻

We have created a tier on our Patreon page dedicated to treat TVT and hoping to find as many monthly sponsors as possible to be able to help with the urgency of this life threatening matter.

A one time donation of USD 30,- per chemotherapy is also very gratefully received through the link in our bio or our donate highlight button. Please note ‘TVT’ on your transfer.

Benji had urgent pain relieving surgery and needs support to cover its costs. Can you help? ❤️‍🩹

You all may remember when we rescued Benji back in July 2024 as a tiny puppy who was about to be dumped because his sickness overwhelmed his elderly owner. Thankfully our girls were at the right place to the right time and saved him before he was thrown into a unknown future.

In addition to all the typical issues he also suffered from deformity in all four legs, they were weak because he lacked calcium and nutrition that he should have received from his mama‘s milk.

Despite all our efforts to support his growth and heal his rickets, we couldn’t correct his left front leg that then was diagnosed with an angular limb deformity which caused pain and lameness because of the abnormal posture. Amputation was the only option that ensured him to live without discomfort.

As a tripod he adjusted well emotionally. But sadly physically he was prone to experience more challenges.

With his poor genetics and upbringing as a puppy he developed hip dysplasia on both sides that turned into hip dislocations because of the unstable joint and hip connections. The rubbing movements put further pressure onto his patella ligaments.

In order to ensure Benji a good quality of life, we knew we urgently had to relieve the pain he was so bravely trying to hide behind his smiley face and happy eyes.

Last week he was scheduled for his orthopedic FHO surgery in which the head and neck of the femur on both sides were removed to treat his hip and patella pain. Post op he stabilized quickly and already happily moved back into our Safe House where he is currently in recovery.

We now would like to kindly ask for support to help cover the costs for Benji’s most necessary operation that amounts to a total of USD 645,-. If you are able to, please donate through the link in our bio and note ‚Benji‘ on your transfer.

From him and all of us as LSM, please receive a huge heartfelt thank you for all your help. 🙏🏻

Spay and Neuter saves lives ❤️‍🩹

Yesterday we were holding the first out of two sterilization events of this months in collaboration with vet Ketut and his team.

We successfully spayed and neutered a total of 29 animals who are now looking towards a healthier and better future:

Female Dogs: 18
Male Dogs: 6
Female Cats: 5

We furthermore provided 27 rabies and 6 complete vaccinations to puppies that helps to protect them from fatal viruses such as distemper and parvo.

We are so very thankful to vet Ketut and his assistant vet Cendy for their tireless work, our team for their dedication and YOU, our wonderful supporters, for allowing this event for the animals to happen.

The surgeries of 29 animals were once again the prevention of thousands of lives. It made a huge impact in improving animal welfare and in slowing down the flow of unwanted puppies and kittens and its resulting suffering.

Please continue to be part of our most necessary mission and contribute to a life saving cause for Bali‘s animals through sterilization. It is and always will be the one and only sustainable way to prevent future suffering.

Click on the link in our bio or sign up on our sterilization tier on Patreon for monthly support. 🙏🏻

Can you help us to prevent more suffering by sponsoring a sterilization? ❤️‍🩹

This Thursday we will be holding our first spay and neuter event of this month with vet Ketut and his assistant vet Cendy.

For this important day we have already pre registered a total of 25 animals whose lives have the chance to improve.

Some of them are mama’s who had already countless of litters. Others are about to come to an age to be able to be a mama. Strays with no home or pets owned by low income local families, all of them are in urgent need to be fixed to prevent further unwanted births, the spread of sicknesses and the resulting suffering.

The sterilizations of 25 animals is the prevention of over 2.5 Million unwanted puppies and kittens in just 6 years. ‼️ This would have a huge positive impact for the animal population here on the island and we hope that with your help we can make this happen.

Each sterilization will cost us 25 USD and we are now in urgent need of sponsors to cover the 25 surgeries all of which amount to a total of USD 625,-.

Will you be able to help us help them?

The more people who can help us, the more we can sterilize. Please if you can, sponsor one or two, they have no one else to rely on but us.

To donate please click the link in our bio or see our donate highlight button and note ‘sterilization’ on your transfer.

From them all and us, thank you so much for your support. 🙏🏻

Changing lives together with you ❤️‍🩹

With so many suffering dogs and cats in Bali, we are committed to encourage and improve the health of as many animals as we possibly can to create safer communities.

While we feed and treat street dogs, we are also educating owners about their pets rights and welfare and we are supporting low income local families who need a helping hand to care for their animals.

Pak Fitri came to our Safe House to ask for help for one of his dogs. Milo is 3 years young and suffers from a severe skin infection that began to occur about a month ago. The itch was so intense that he scratched himself bleeding.

Milo was very shy towards us but with the good will of his owner who wants to make his life better, we were able to approach him.

We helped Pak Fitri and Milo by properly cleaning and disinfecting the wound, by giving a thoroughly bath and by providing the right medication for worms, hot spots, mange and a secondary fungal infection, all of which brought instant relief and will bring healing towards a full recovery over the next few weeks.

Furthermore we explained Pak Fitri that immune suppression is the cause for skin conditions like Milo’s and that with a better nutritious yet inexpensive diet, his immune systems and therefore his overall health will improve and stay steady in the future.

Once Milo has fully healed, we are planning to vaccinate and to neuter him which will complete his health package.

Our foundation is not only helping animals, we are helping people too, by reducing contagious diseases and overpopulation in their pets.

Please help us to fund these medical care cases by donating via the link in our bio or by sponsoring monthly through Patreon.

Your support is helping us to save their lives. 🙏🏻

🚨 NEW RESCUE 🚨

Our team was asked for help to investigate a case of a caged dog who was kept in inhumane conditions. With only six months of age she is still just a puppy but lived in unimaginable misery.

Served as a toy for a child, she was thrown into a cage and left in front of the house by the main road once her family got bored of her. Here she was out of sight, out of mind and totally forgotten about.

As she grew bigger with each month of her young life, she outgrew that same cage. It caused her bones, muscles and ligaments not being able to form properly, leaving her legs deformed. She was so painfully emaciated as she was being fed and watered only the bare minimum, that it even forced her to eat her own f***s. She was kept with no bedding and no loving human interactions ever.

Since there are no enforceable animal welfare laws here in Bali, the only way to free her was to negotiate and convince the owner that she deserved better. If we had simply taken her without permission, it would have been us who were breaking the law.

In our first visit they were very reluctant to accept our education efforts and denied us to help. We had no choice but leaving her behind in the cage which broke all our hearts. It took another visit the next day and further persistent phone calls initiated by our team to convince the owner to surrender her into our care where she thankfully is now.

Freed from a miserable life in a too small cage, we hope soon she will also be free from pain and discomfort. First thing tomorrow morning she will see the vet. While we will work our absolute best on getting her health back, we desperately ask for your help to support her ongoing care and medical costs.

Donations for a new better life for this incredibly trusting little girl are so very gratefully received through the link in our bio.

The videos of her speak a thousand words of what her daily life must have been like. Yet it didn’t break her spirit nor her heart. She was given the name Kela by the family that neglected her but we would wish for her to begin her new life with a new name. Please help us to choose one that does her justice. 🙏🏻

❤️ Thank you ❤️

We had a wonderful visit in the Safe House by our supporters Maria and Noel from Canada who we were so very looking forward to meet.

Besides lots of love and warm hugs, they also brought over a big bag of much needed supplies which were kindly donated and collected throughout their dog loving circle of work colleagues at the Toronto Police.

Especially the new toys and treats made all our rescues so incredibly happy. Please, in their name and ours, receive a huge thank you from all of us at LSM. 🥹🙏🏻

It has been an absolute pleasure to meet you and we are so grateful to have made friends for a life time.

We appreciate it so much to be welcoming all of you great dog lovers from around the world. Your time, love and generosity is what is allowing us to continue our mission in helping animals in need.

Spread the word... if you are coming to Bali too, planning to visit us and have a little spare room in your luggage, we are always in need of skin medication such as Bravecto, dewormer, toys, treats, towels, blankets, collars and leashes. 🐕

🎉 The Little Steps Matter Dog Safe House is turning 3 🎉

The safe haven for our Bali Dogs is celebrating its third anniversary!

What was once an empty house, has turned into a soulful sanctuary with a peaceful home environmental flair for our rescues to heal and to love again.

It has been a place of hope for many unwanted dogs, where they experience care and happiness for the very first time. Here they have the opportunity to leave their sad past behind. They learn to trust and love human kind again, they are patiently awaiting adoption and those considered unadoptable live out the rest of their lives in safety with us.

None of this would have ever been possible without YOU, all our wonderful supporters. You are an integral part of the Dog Safe House.

You, who like, comment and share our posts. You, who are sending us supportive and encouraging messages when times are getting tough. You, who visit us giving so much love and attention to our rescues and bringing over much needed supplies. And you who support us from far.

THANK YOU for your trust in us! THANK YOU for saving so many lives with us!

We would like to recap throughout the years to the beginning of 2022 with the arrival of our rescue OG’s Ava, Joy, Danny, Lina, Luna and Benny until the creation of the safe haven it is today and for so many more dogs to come.

Celebrate our third anniversary with us and if you have met us and our dogs in person, please share your favorite memories of your visit to our Safe House in the comments below.

Much love from the entire Little Steps Matter family. ❤️

Sterilization is key ❤️‍🩹

We are pleased to inform that yesterday we successfully spayed and neutered a total of 24 animals.

That includes alll pre registered dogs and cats who we introduced to you in our previous post plus additional pets who were brought to our sterilization facility directly by their owners.

9 female dogs, 5 male dogs, 7 female cats and 3 male cat are now looking towards a healthier and better future life.

Further more 22 rabies vaccines and 1 full vaccination were given.

The birth and the resulting suffer of many thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens could be prevented with what we call the kindest cut of all.

So thank you to all our wonderful supporters who sponsored a sterilization and allowed this important day to happen for the animals that were in most urgent need.

Fundraising for our spay and neuter events may be the least attractive in what we do which we can understand, but please know that it also has the biggest impact in saving lives here in Bali.

If you would like to be part of the most necessary mission too, then please contribute towards our sterilization program. It is and always will be the one and only sustainable way to prevent future suffering.

Sterilization sponsors needed 🙏🏻

Tomorrow we will be holding another important spay and neuter event with vet Ketut and his assistant vet Cendy.

A total of 17 animals were pre registered by us over the past couple of days, who will have the chance of a better life.

All those dogs and cats, many of who are owned by low income local families and others who are strays, are in urgent need to be sterilized to:

a) prevent further unwanted births and overpopulation.
b) protect them from suffering and diseases such as TVT cancer.
c) help improve their well-being and living conditions, as many animals are on chains in belief it keeps them from mating.

Each sterilization surgery will hereby cost us 25 USD. We are now in urgent need of sponsors to cover all 17 dogs and cats which will amount to a total of 425 USD.

Will you be able to help us help them?

To donate please click the link in our bio or see our donate highlight button and note ‘sterilization’ on your transfer.

From them all and us, thank you so much for your support. 🤍

A life on a chain is not a life they deserve

It shouldn’t happen, but sadly it does. Chaining dogs is one of the biggest issues that we face in Bali.

When we go from house to house, registering animals for our sterilization events, we see them. Dogs spending their lives on a short chain.

While for us this sort of confinement is a cruel punishment, for many local owners here it is a belief to protect their pets; from getting lost, pregnant, hit on the road, poisoned or mistreated in any other way.

Unfortunately, most are not realizing how much their dogs are suffering. Given these poor living conditions, it is no surprise that those dogs oftentimes become aggressive, depressed, unsocial and sick.

Even if we wished we could just take away all of them, it wouldn’t always help if we did. People simply would get another one instead and repeat the same mistakes.

The most efficient way to help those neglected and misunderstood dogs is to work with the local communities and to educate about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership while also spay and neuter as many animals as we can to prevent future suffering.

That we discovered young Molly is now giving her the chance of a better and healthier future life within her family. We have registered her for our upcoming sterilization event to prevent her from reproducing, the reason why she is chained.

To put a stop to unwanted births, please sustain our sterilization program via the link in our bio. There is always more work to be done and we remain committed to focus on long-term solutions to animal suffering. 🙏🏻

Why sterilization is the most important ‼️

Traditionally, homes in Bali are part of a compound composed of many houses that are shared with generations of extended family and therefore their individual animals.

The majority of those animals are not spayed and neutered as for many local communities the costs to do so are just out of reach compared to what they make monthly in income.

In return the dog and cat populations are forever raising and with it is the suffering. Without intervention, more and more puppies and kittens are born into homes that are simply not equipped to care for them all.

While we were going from house to house registering animals for our upcoming sterilization events, we walked into one of those compounds that houses five dogs, one of which is male, two young females and two mama dogs with one last surviving litter puppy each.

All of the dogs seemed to be in overall good conditions, are cared for and being treated kindly, only that they have worms and ticks and the pups show signs of a fungal skin infection. We have already medicated them accordingly.

Before the dogs continue to reproduce litter after litter of pups who won’t be making it all to adulthood, we most importantly registered the five adults for sterilization through our program.

This is a help we are able to offer low income families because of the support we are receiving from you, our wonderful dog loving community worldwide.

Spay and neutering is and forever will be the one and only most compassionate method in the prevention of unwanted births and the resulting suffering here in Bali.

If you are not part of this most important mission yet but would like to join, spread the word, donate towards our tiers on Patreon or make a one-time donation for the kindest cut of all via the link in our bio. 🙏🏻

The Bali Dog 🐕

The Balinese are proud and dedicated people who preserve their unique culture, beliefs and traditions. But let us not forget another equally strong and ancient part of the islands cultural heritage, that is the Bali Dog.

Considered to be the possibly world’s oldest breed of dogs know to man with DNA dating back over 12,000 years, the Bali Dog belongs to Bali like its ricefields, volcanos, temples and beaches. Being a natural part of the island for thousands of years, they live in coexistence with the local communities.

It is a very beautiful, unique and fascinating breed that is treasured by many Balinese and Expats alike for their primal qualities and almost wolf-like appearance, but also for their loyalty and deep connection they can form to us humans. Best described as incredibly smart and strong they are excellent guard dogs, but with their loving and faithful personalities they also make trainable companions and absolutely wonderful pets.

Unfortunately the population of pure Bali Dogs has suffered a huge decline over the past decades as the dog meat trade (RW), crossbreeding with imported western breed dogs, mass culling, mass sterilizations, sicknesses and the general lack of appreciation for their breed are extreme threats to their survival nowadays.

Once the Bali Dogs are gone, they will be gone forever and we would like to highlight that their disappearance would be a tragic loss for the Balinese culture and to everyone who loves them. Our mission is it to save, to protect and to keep this incredibly special breed alive.

If your life has been enriched too by the love of a Bali Dog, please help us to cherish them and share your story in our comments below. ❤️

Helping people to help their animals thanks to your support ❤️‍🩹

While we were out on our street feeding tour, we were approached by a local couple who asked us for help for their dog.

With three years of age, poor little Coki suffered from a skin condition so severe that his entire body was nearly completely hairless from the intense itching.

Because of limited resources, his owners tried to cure Coki on their own with natural medicine in the best way they knew, but with no obvious effect. Luckily they then found us.

Coki was very shy towards us but with the good will of his family to make his life better, we were able to approach and help him.

We provided deworming and medication that will effectively heal his skin from mange and fungus over the next few weeks. We also showered him for an immediate topically relief and we handed over the medicated shampoo for his owners to continue the baths weekly for a faster recovery. His eye was lost in the past after he met with a spitting cobra, but we showed how to keep his eye socket clean. We furthermore educated them about an inexpensive yet nutritious diet for their dog.

Once Coki has fully healed, we want to vaccinate and neuter him for a better and healthier future life.

We already can’t wait to show you his complete transformation that all of you are being part of. Helping people who care for their animals but lacking the financial recourses to afford necessary vet treatment, is something we are very grateful to be able to do.

This is exactly where your donation goes.

Please continue to support us with a onetime donation through the link in our bio or join us on Patreon for a monthly sponsorship that brings needed help to dogs just like Coki, who are still out there suffering from the same curable condition.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being by our side to make this world a better place. 🙏🏻
