Meet Alba, a cherished member of our street feeding tour since 2020.

For more than six years, Alba has received daily meals, regular preventative medication, vaccinations and was safely spayed through our sterilization program. Through these simple but essential acts of care, we have been able to protect her and support her well-being year after year.

Alba is gentle, affectionate and incredibly trusting. She welcomes every kind touch and every moment of attention with an open heart. Her beautiful nature is a reminder that behind every street dog is a heart capable of giving and receiving an extraordinary amount of love.

The streets are full of beautiful souls like her—born into hardship, merely surviving instead of truly living. Yet, after everything they endure, they still love as if humanity had never betrayed them. They may not have a home, but they still deserve to feel safe, cared for and loved.

In a world filled with so much suffering, kindness is a choice we can all make. A simple meal, a gentle touch, a moment of compassion. To a street dog, these small gestures mean everything.

Tick Season is here 🚨

Unfortunately, tick infestations are extremely common among dogs in Bali. During this season, however, we are seeing an increasing number of animals suffering from severe infestations.

Ticks can transmit dangerous blood-borne infections such as Babesia, Ehrlichia and Anaplasma. These diseases can cause severe anemia, weight loss, weakness, depression, high fever and, in advanced cases, organ failure and death. Yet with prevention and timely treatment, much of this suffering can be avoided.

While registering dogs for our sterilization event, we met mama dog Selem and her puppy. Both were heavily infested with ticks and already visibly affected by their condition.

We spoke with their caregiver about the dangers of tick-borne diseases and the importance of regularly checking her dogs, particularly inside the ears, around the folds of the legs and between the toes and paw pads. As many ticks as possible should be carefully removed by hand and placed in a container with water and oil until they are safely disposed of.

We provided Selem and her puppy with medication to rapidly kill the existing ticks and help prevent further bites and transmission. Once the ticks die, they will dry up and fall away.

Their treatment will continue with antibiotics to address the blood parasite infections, alongside supplements to support their immune systems. Once Selem has recovered, she will also be spayed through our program, helping protect her from future pregnancies and further suffering.

Every month, we treat numerous dogs not only for mange, but also for flea and tick infestations. Long-lasting medications such as Bravecto, Simparica and NexGard are essential tools in protecting the animals we encounter from parasites and the diseases they carry.

One tablet costs USD 25 and can be divided into 3–4 doses, allowing us to treat several dogs.

More lives saved through sterilization ❤️‍🩹

One month ago, we lost Mimi after she lost her fight against TVT cancer — a disease that could have been prevented through sterilization.

Her loss was heartbreaking, but we wanted her story to become a reason to protect others. In her memory, we returned to Mimi’s village to help sterilize the animals living around her and prevent more suffering from occurring in the future.

The sterilization event was held at the local banjar, the traditional community organization that serves as an important gathering point within Balinese villages. Local residents brought their animals to the event, taking an important step towards responsible ownership and better animal welfare.

Together, we successfully spayed and neutered 18 animals: 11 female dogs, 4 male dogs and 3 female cats.

In addition, 54 rabies vaccinations were provided, including 47 vaccinations supplied by the Dinas, the local government veterinary and livestock service that supported and participated in the event.

We are deeply grateful to our vet and his team for their dedication and skilled work, to our own team for their continued effort and to the local banjar and Dinas for helping make this event possible. Most importantly, we thank every local resident who brought their animals and chose responsible pet ownership.

Sterilization is one of the most effective tools we have to prevent unwanted litters, reduce the number of animals facing abandonment and suffering and protect animals from preventable diseases. By sterilizing one animal, we can prevent generations of suffering.

The 18 sterilizations have resulted in a $540 USD vet bill, calculated at $30 USD per animal. We now need your support to settle this cost with our vet so that we can continue bringing essential sterilization services to more communities in Bali.

Rabies: Prevention Saves Lives ❤️‍🩹

Rabies remains one of the deadliest viruses affecting both animals and people. Yet unlike many other fatal diseases, the tools to prevent and ultimately eliminate it already exist.

Achieving this requires high vaccination coverage among dogs, supported by local leadership, community engagement and reliable access to rabies vaccinations.

Across Bali, government authorities and animal welfare organizations regularly provide free rabies vaccination programs. For those unable to attend, our team dedicates additional time outside our spay and neuter events to reach animals who would otherwise be missed.

Just yesterday, we provided 65 dogs with free rabies vaccinations — including many of our permanent street-feeding dogs due for booster shots, as well as beloved pets belonging to local families who could not otherwise afford this essential care.

But there are many more still waiting.

Each vaccine costs us $10 USD. We are raising $650 USD to cover the 65 vaccinations already provided, plus an additional $1,000 USD to vaccinate 100 more dogs.

Our immediate goal is therefore $1,650 USD to reach 165 dogs.

Maintaining high vaccination coverage is essential for creating community protection. When approximately 70% of the dog population is vaccinated, the risk of rabies continuing to spread is significantly reduced, helping to protect vaccinated and vulnerable animals as well as the people who live alongside them.

Every vaccination brings us one step closer to a safer, healthier community and a Bali where rabies no longer threatens the lives of animals and people.

Children are the future 🫶🏻

While visiting a new village to register animals for our upcoming spay and neuter events, we met five-year-old Ayu, who proudly introduced us to her mama dog Bonti and her three puppies.

Every day, we work within local communities to share the importance of responsible animal care — from deworming, vaccinations and proper nutrition to sterilization and preventative healthcare.

But beyond education, we believe in nurturing something equally important from an early age: compassion.

Children naturally have a beautiful capacity for empathy and when they learn to understand the needs of their animals, they begin to see them as companions who depend on them for their wellbeing.

One of the first things we teach children is how to safely handle a puppy. Ayu learned to support the puppy’s chest with one arm and its hindquarters with the other, holding it safely and close to her body. She also learned why puppies should never be lifted by their legs or scruff, as this can cause fear, discomfort and injury.

We furthermore showed her how simple materials from her own home could also be used to create a warm bed for the little family.

Bonti has been registered for sterilization once she has finished nursing and we have treated her for worms, fleas and ticks to help protect both her and her puppies.

The future of Bali’s animals lies in the hands of its children. By teaching kindness and responsible care today, we hope to raise a generation that will grow into compassionate communities and create lasting change for the animals of tomorrow.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of the wonderful people who have visited us and our rescues in Bali over the past couple of weeks.

Whether travelling from overseas or joining us locally, you have supported our mission in such meaningful ways, bringing needed supplies, donations and essential items for the animals in our care, while also giving them your time, affection and compassion.

The reality of rescuing animals is often difficult and providing for so many dogs requires a constant supply of food, medication and other necessities. Every contribution brought through our doors helps us continue giving them the care and security they deserve.

While also sitting with them, stroking them, cuddling them and simply spending time in their company helps them experience the kindness and human connection they may have been deprived of in the past.

Their suffering is treatable. We just need your help. ❤️‍🩹

Our team has just entered a new village in our regency, going from house to house to register animals for our sterilization program. Along the way, we have encountered numerous dogs suffering from severe skin disease that cannot be ignored.

Mange is one of the most common conditions we see among stray dogs in Bali, but it also affects many owned animals. Caused by mites, it can result in intense itching, extensive hair loss, thickened and damaged skin, sores and prolonged discomfort. Without treatment, it becomes debilitating.

One of the dogs we met is Bruno, a senior dog who was roaming the street in front of his home. His skin had become thick and leathery with hard, crusty patches and he was almost completely hairless. From his condition, it was evident that he had been living with mange for quite some time.

Fortunately, his condition is treatable.

Bruno has now received a single dose of Bravecto. Over the coming weeks, his skin should begin to recover and his coat will grow back, bringing him much needed relief and comfort in his senior years.

Unfortunately, Bruno is not alone.

Throughout this untouched rural village, we have found many other dogs in need of the same treatment and we want to return to provide them with the care they deserve.

But to do so, we urgently need funds to replenish our supply. One tablet of Bravecto costs us locally only $25 USD and can treat up to four dogs.

♥️ Adopt a Rescued Dog ♥️

Every dog should know what it feels like to be loved. They crave love and comfort and family just as much as we do, maybe even more.

There is something incredibly special about adopting a rescued dog. Many seem to understand, in their own way, that they have finally found someone who has chosen them. Someone who is giving them the life they may never have known before. And because of that the bond they form with their person can be incredibly profound.

Sadly it generally takes teenage- and adult dogs a lot longer to get adopted than puppies, even when they are calmer, more settled, better-socialized and already house-trained.

Everyone loves puppies and we get that. We love puppies too. It makes sense that the default choice when adopting a new dog is to go with a young puppy. However, you may be surprised by how rewarding it can be to adopt a more mature dog.

We have many beautiful teenage- and adult rescues in our care waiting for their forever homes. So if you are thinking of adopting a dog, please take the time to look at them.

They have not given up. They just need you and perhaps, without knowing it, you are needing them too. Sometimes, the dog who has been waiting the longest is the one who will love you the most.

Supporting those who don’t look away ❤️‍🩹

The suffering of dogs and cats all over Bali is unimaginable and the number of animals needing rescue oftentimes outweighing the help available.

We are therefore deeply grateful to know people within local communities who can’t overlook the agony and helping as much as they can.

One of them is Ibu Komang, who works at a local market where she has encountered many abandoned dogs and cats.

Over the years, she has taken responsibility for animals who were sick, injured or in urgent need of care, bringing them to her own home when necessary and providing what assistance she could with very limited resources.

As people became aware that she was taking in abandoned animals, they began leaving dogs and cats at her private home, knowing that she would not turn them away. What started as her personal effort to help animals in need has therefore become an ongoing responsibility placed upon her by others.

Since 2023, we have helped her with additional food, medications and sterilizations, and continue to assist as new animals come into her care.

Lucky’s transformation ❤️‍🩹

Just look at the difference your kindness can make.

When Lucky first came to our attention, he had recently been abandoned at a local market simply because he was suffering from mange, an easily treatable skin condition that no dog should ever be left to endure.
