The tallest dog breed, the Irish Wolfhound is a giant hound native to Ireland that can reach heights of up to 7feet tall when on their hind legs 😮🪜🐾😍
We had the pleasure of giving these 9 pups their vaccinations and microchips this week and of course stealing some puppy cuddles 😜 It was a big day out for them all so they caught up on some rest while we got their paperwork ready😴😴😴 We cannot wait to see how big they are when we see them back in a few weeks ☺️

We had the pleasure of meeting these two very well behaved little rats 'Lizzy' and 'Jane' 🐀and assisting with the removal of some rapidly growing tumors.

Unfortunately, small mammals are particularly prone to developing mostly cancerous growths under their skin or on their reproductive tracts.

So with the removal of the skin tumors and a spay we give Lizzy and Jane the best chance of a happy life without any further issues💖🐀😍

Nelly, the most beautiful and gentle Boxer girl came for a quick visit and health check.
Needless to say, she left with a wagging tail and a belly full of treats 😍🐾

Jess was a little unsure of the consult room and the vet but with her Mommy's help, a paw hold and some reassuring head rubs coupled with a very calm and gentle health check: she quickly realised that her booster vaccine and examination was over much quicker than she expected and the vet wasn't so bad after all❤️

MISSING CAT!

His name is Tiger, his got no teeth in front, his black and grey, white on the neck and has white fur on the bottom on his paws. His not chipped but neutered. I've had him for 7 years. His very shy and very scared. He has a small little snip on his left ear I think.

Meet Waffle, a gently giant who came in for a health-ckeck-visit, after he swallowed a foreign body and spent over a week in our clinic to recover from his big surgery. 💉
As you can see in his face, he has no bad/scary memories of “the vets” and the clinic in general.

We always try to provide the best care for our patients, even it means home-cooked boiled chicken or extra time spent in the kennel to provide well needed scratches and cuddles. 💕

Beautiful Jessie is demonstrating how we can use ONE diagnostic tool to diagnose TWO possible health issues.

A drop of Fluorescein is applied in each eye. Then we can check if an ulceration (damage of the cornea, the first layer on the eye) is present.
At the same time some of the liquid is entering the ca**liculi (tear duct ca**l) and is visible at each nostril if no blockage is present.

The test is not painful and after a few minutes her green colorful eyes and nostrils are cleared up again.

Luckily she did not have any eye injuries and her tear ducts were open.

DOG FOUND..... This young male collie was found tonight on the Ballygaddy Road, Tuam near the fuel station. He is currently receiving veterinary treatment. February is National Pet Dental Health Month 🦷 To kick us off, here's a prime example of why regular health checks are vital for noticing any dental issues that may be going on.

Our 4 year old patient came in for a dental clean and polish as her dedicated owners noticed some gum recession in certain areas.
During the clean we noticed, a seemingly healthy molar tooth appeared more loose. On closer examination it was discovered that the 3 roots were more exposed to tartar as the gum was lifted over them.
Have a look at this step by step surgical molar tooth extraction with precise splitting of the tooth.

The image of the split tooth shows us the decay that would have caused possible future nerve pain, abscesses and would have affected the adjacent teeth. 🩺

Lipomas ('fatty lumps') do not normally need to be surgically removed as they are benign fatty deposits mostly under the skin, which cause no pain or discomfort for our patients.

Unfortunately sometimes they grow in very uncomfortable places and cause restriction of movement or can even grow in between the muscle layer or nerve and vessel areas.

Now little 'Sophie', a proud, nearly 14 year old Spaniel had one very large lump expanding towards her nerve region, under her front leg which caused her discomfort during her walks.

An MRI luckily cleared the concern of the involvement of the nerve bundle under the front leg and surgery could be scheduled.

As there was a gap in between her skin and the muscle layer under her front leg after the lump was removed, a drain had to be placed and she was under strict kennel rest for nearly 2 weeks.

Finally, after the drain and later the stitches were removed, her Buster collar could be taken off as well and she is proudly walking now without discomfort.

We wish Sophie and her Family all the best in her recovery!

Inguinal hernia repairs require an advanced surgical technic and a lot of experience, especially when they are presented as big as in this patient!
Fat tissue and sometimes, intestines push out of a stretched or ripped gap in the muscle layer of the abdomen.
If lucky it can be repaired with the muscle tissue of the patient, but in some cases a mesh is required to cover the defect.
As a lot of dead space under the skin can cause serious healing delays due to fluid build up, a drain can prevent complications.

In this case presented, our now happy and healthy patient can again enjoy her active life as a busy Border Collie.🥳

He developed an ear infection and needed to be treated, Bruno is on the mend now and was eager to get back into his home and fix up his new bedding!

Max is one of our middle age patients who was presented to us with an inguinal testicle. Unfortunately it was already enlarged and caused him discomfort. As inguinal (non descended) testicles usually increase in size over time and most likely develop into a tumoral testicle, it is very important to inform owners about this issue. A solution would include the surgical removal of the non descended testicle. A complete castration is recommended but not necessary. MAX is now discomfort/ pain-free and can hopefully live a long and happy life chasing tennis balls and stealing treats and cuddles from his human 😀

Cooper returned from a long run with a slight bump over his eye a few weeks ago, he had been seen by several vets with no improvement before dropping in to see our detective vet Linda who loves nothing more than a case that involves thorough investigation, and with some sedation she swiftly got to the 'root'🌿 cause of Coopers issue. He has now been discharged and is on the road to recovery. Well done Cooper you were very brave❤☺ #veterinary #veterinarylife #canine #springerspanielsofinstagram

Story Time 🥰: Little Felix had previously come to see us after an unexpected injury that caused him to be rushed in to our clinic as he was in critical condition. He suffered head trauma which caused him to lose his sight and he had been having seizures also. Felix was hospitalised with us for about a week and was looked after by our amazing team in Mountbellew. Now with the help of the Roscommon SPCA and his fabulous new family, Felix is gaining confidence and is thriving in his new environment. Living life as a blind kitty isn’t so bad after all when you have the right support 🐱💕
