Morty's Story 🖤

Over the Christmas holidays we posted about a cat that was straying in Lecanvey. The cat had been hanging round a caravan park for weeks and spent much time crying, following people and trying to get inside their homes. He spent weeks out in the elements (he was huddled under a caravan during storm Darragh 😢).

It was obvious he was a lost house pet that needed help.

A kind lady got in touch with us. She was concerned for his wellbeing but unable to give him refuge as she has her own rescue cat who is not keen on sharing her space with other felines.

For his safety we got him picked up on the 22nd December and he spent Christmas in foster.

He was already neutered which told us somebody cared enough to get him fixed. Unfortunately he wasn't microchipped.

Luckily his owner saw our Facebook post. Turns out the cat was a much loved family pet. His name is Morty and his family had been searching for him everywhere.

You can just imagine the family's joy to be reunited with their pet on new year's day. A great start to 2025 for all concerned 😻

If Morty had been microchipped we could have got him back to his family in time for Christmas.

In this case it all worked out in the end. However, most unchipped strays that come into rescues are never reunited with their families 😞 This is a sad situation where the family is left heartbroken meanwhile it puts extra strain on rescue charities.

We are happy to say that Morty is now microchipped! 😻

Our latest dog looking for his forever home.
Meet Tucker . Tucker is a Malinois German Shepard cross. This lovely boy is 4 years old. He is housetrained neutered etc. He is excellent on lead and good with other dogs a submissive dog rather than an alpha male if there is already a resident dog.
Tucker will need an active adult only home.

Hi this cat is missing from the Turlough village area. his name is Tubsy, he’s a boy and he’s used to people and he’s very quiet and gentle. He may have a name tag on his collar. He’s a very special part of our family would be very grateful if you could share to get the word out as we don’t know where he’s gone. He’s been gone 4 days and he’s never away for this length. These are the misfortunate and now fortunate puppies that were found dumped in a ditch early one morning a couple of weeks ago outside Ballina. It was the coldest morning of the year during the recent snow and ice.
Thankfully Rosie and Jim survived due to them coming into Nwspca care and being looked after so well by Dave and Becky.
Rosie (the brown girl and Jim are now ready to go to their forever homes where they will never fear ending up in a ditch again.
Rosie and Jim are approx 4 months old and will make lovely pets.

Rest in peace, Manuela 💔

Manuela put up a brave fight for the last few weeks but her immune system was severely compromised 😞

Despite many rounds of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, there was still no improvement in her condition.

In the end she developed neurological symptoms. She lost her balance, couldn't stand without stumbling and developed a head tilt.

With no hope of recovery the only kind option was to have her humanely put to sleep 💔

Manuela was first reported to us limping due to an infection in her leg most likely caused by a bite wound. She tested positive for FIV and FeLV.

The saddest part is that she didn't even make it to her first birthday 😞 She had a tough, short life on the street. Yet another unwanted kitten left to fend for herself, constantly at risk of starvation, injury and disease. This is the reality for most feral cats.

With another kitten season about to kick off, YOU can help prevent suffering by getting any strays/ferals coming to your garden NEUTERED.

Rescue charities can only do so much. We have limited resources. The suffering can only be addressed if people take responsibility by neutering cats in their own communities.

Don't wait for someone else to do it. Don't wait until there are litters of unwanted kittens. NOW is the time to take action.

Tommy, male staffiex, red and white. He is 6 months old now and was rescued from being put to sleep. He is a robust little puppy . Piercing green eyes and beautiful markings. He is very social with all the animals, dogs, cats and fowl. Medium exercise and can live anywhere. 9 years plus kids. He is a fabulous little boy but now needs to be in a home to continue his training

Please remember Tommy is a restricted breed and will need to be muzzled on walks and in public areas. He is not on the exemption list .

This is Meabh and Gráinne, named so because they are 2 queens! They are two plump sisters who love snuggles. Meabh had an eye infection when she was younger and has two different coloured eyes as a result. They both love pets and will look for affection but they also love their space. They don't have any bit of bad attitude. They love to chase the floor brush and will play with toys too. These two are truly beautiful sisters and will bring boundless happiness to the right family. They haven't been around dogs or outside. I'd say they would prefer the comfort of indoors only. Meabh loves a high perch to watch over her subjects. They are neutered and vaccinated.

Meet Velcro.. yes you’ve guessed, named Velcro because this young boy is stuck to you for cuddles and snuggles 🖤 He is very loving and friendly and just wants to be in your arms. Velcro is about 7 months old, neutered, has received his first vaccination and is ready to be your new bestie. A really lovely natured little kitty 🥰

UPDATE ON BUDDY
(aka. Jethro, Sam McGuire, Corrigan's shop cat)

Buddy was discharged from the vets on Friday. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sinead for offering him a foster home 🙏

For the past 3 years, Derek, who lives locally, had been going daily to the petrol station to feed/monitor Buddy. He reported him missing on the 26th Dec and spent the rest of the Christmas searching for him. He eventually found Buddy in a terrible state on New Year's day. He took him straight to the vet where he needed to be hospitalized and IV fluids administered.

Buddy was diagnosed with kidney issues that are now being managed with a strict renal diet. There is also the possibility that the mass in his stomach is cancerous 😢 We will just have to see how things go...

Right now he is happy and comfortable and receiving first class care from his fosterer.

He is on Royal Canin RENAL wet food pouches. This food is expensive but necessary to help his kidneys recover.
