WEATHER WARNING!!

We all love the sun, the dogs do too, but it's about to get ridiculous!

Heatstroke is not a wait and see type of thing.
It's a get to the vets ASAP type of thing!

Signs are:

Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
Excessively drooling
They appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
Collapsed or vomiting

DO:

Give free access to water
Provide plenty of shade
Put up fans at a lower level if safe
Check the temperature of artificial grass
Give them calm games indoors instead of walks
Give ice cubes (if not suffering from heatstroke)
Use sun cream on dilutes/any white/thinning areas.
Give them space, the heat can make them grumpy, make sure the children know to leave them alone.
Expect them to go off their food slightly.

DO NOT

Spray with hosepipe without checking the water coming out is cool. Water lying in pipes heats up quickly. Let it run first!

Hose them down with cold water if you suspect heat stroke

Walk them in the heat

Walk them on pavements (check the temp of the ground with the back of your hand for 5 seconds)

Leave them in the car, even for a couple of minutes! I'd avoid travel if you can. If not, make sure you have water on board and back up in case of breakdown!

I hope you all enjoy the weather but I think we'll all be seeking the shade.

Feel free to share your tips and tricks below.

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the mist to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌ Hemolytic Anemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In June 2019, a dog has been reported to suffer from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning
