EASTER ADVICE TO PET OWNERS.

Easter Lilies.
While they may be pretty, lilies are one of the most poisonous plants for cats. We keeping them out of the house (or better yet, purchase artificial flowers). Be aware of symptoms of lily poisoning which include vomiting, lethargy and loss of appetite. Call your vet as soon as possible if you think your pet has ingested lily. Without immediate care, cats who eat lily may develop life-threatening kidney failure within 36 to 72 hours of ingestion.
Chocolate.
Chocolate is a harmful food for pets. Most adults know this, but that it’s adults’ responsibility to make sure children know, too. Keep little ones from giving chocolate to pets and do your best to supervise. Chocolate contains theobromine and xylitol and can be toxic and/or fatal to your pet.
All kinds of candy, including candy wrappers.
Too much sugar can give your pet a bellyache, but worse, if wrappers are swallowed, your pet risks tearing of the esophagus or intestines or causing a blockage. Clean up as best and frequently as you can when candy is being unwrapped.
Other harmful foods:
Grapes, Raisins, certain nuts, Avocados, Onions, Garlic, Salt, Raw yeast dough, Fatty foods
Bones and leftovers from dinner can be very harmful to your pet. Bones can tear gums, throats, oesophagus, stomach and intestines or splinter and cause a lot of irritation, haemorrhagic diarrhea, vomiting and pain. Leftovers can be very dangerous, depending on the food it can be toxic or even if it isn’t, too much can lead to pancreatitis or worse. PLEASE REMEMBER: some meats are cooked with or can contain ingredients that are toxic to pets. For example, Stuffing with your roast, this often contains onions.
Easter Décor.
Plastic eggs, if ingested, can rip tears in the digestive system. Likewise, spoiled hard boiled eggs, if ingested, can make pets ill. Easter grass and tinsel are attractive, but deadly. Pets who attempt to eat these garlands and garnishes can choke, or lethally damage their intestines. At Easter, try real grass or crumpled paper instead.

International Cat Care

Cats will sometimes eat things they aren’t supposed to, including non-food materials. These can become lodged in the digestive tract and are referred to as foreign bodies. Some of the common foreign bodies reported around Christmas include tinsel, string and even sellotape.

Keep an eye on your cat and if it starts playing with any Christmas decorations, remove them from the cat. If you spot your cat chewing some string or tinsel, keep a close eye on them for signs of illness. If you are worried, contact your vet.

Cat owners :)

Remember, remember your cat this November...

Bonfire Night is fast approaching but while it is exciting and fun for us, our cats don't necessarily feel the same way. There are hazards associated with Bonfire Night that International Cat Care would like to make cat owners aware of.

Not only are there fireworks, but sparklers and bonfires themselves can pose a risk to our beloved feline friends.

So International Cat Care has put together a page of advice on this, including helpful tips on how to help your cat stay calm during fireworks.

HALLOWEEN TIPS FOR PETS

Trick-or-treat candies are not for pets.
Chocolate -- especially baking or dark chocolate – is dangerous, even lethal, for pets. Symptoms of chocolate poisoning may includevomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, and seizures. Halloween candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can be poisonous to dogs. Even small amounts of xylitol can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar and subsequent loss of coordination and seizures. And while xylitol toxicity in cats has yet to be established, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Don't leave pets out in the yard on Halloween.
Vicious pranksters have been known to tease, injure, steal, and even kill pets on Halloween night. Inexcusable? Yes! But preventable nonetheless. They can also be very afraid of loud noises from fireworks and bangers.

Keep pets confined and away from the door.
Not only will your door be constantly opening and closing on Halloween, but strangers will be dressed in unusual costumes and yelling loudly for their sweets. This, of course, is scary for our furry friends. Dogs are especially territorial and may become anxious and growl at innocent trick-or-treaters. Putting your dog or cat in a secure room away from the front door will also prevent them from darting outside into the night … a night when no one wants to be searching for a lost loved one.

Keep your outdoor cats inside several days before and several days after Halloween.
Black cats are especially at risk from pranks or other cruelty-related incidents. In fact, many shelters do not adopt out black cats during the month of October as a safety precaution.

Keep Halloween plants such as pumpkins and corn out of reach.
Although they are relatively nontoxic, such plants can induce gastrointestinal upset should your pets ingest them in large quantities. Intestinal blockage can even occur if large pieces are swallowed.

Don't keep lit pumpkins around pets.
Should they get too close, they run the risk of burning themselves or knocking it over and causing a fire.

Keep wires and electric light cords out of reach.
If chewed, your pet could get cut on shards of glass or plastic, or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical shock.

Don't dress your pet in a costume unless you know they'll love it.
If you do decide that Fido or Kitty needs a costume, make sure it isn't annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict movement, hearing, or the ability to breathe or bark and meow.

IDs, please!
If your dog or cat should escape and become lost, having the proper identification will increase the chances that they will be returned. Just make sure the information is up-to-date, even if your pet does have a microchip.

Just in case you didnt realise. Sasha :)

Did you know that Feeding Ducks Bread is actually bad for them.....Its bad for them because the food has little nutritional value and can harm ducklings’ growth, pollute waterways and attract rodents. Ducks should never be fed any products that is moldy as different types of mold can be fatal to waterfowl. There are many other types of food that can be offered to ducks, geese and swans as part of a healthy and nutritious diet. As ducks will eat a great deal of different foods, and the best foods to offer ducks include: Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rice ( Cooked or uncooked ), Birdseed ( Any Type ) Grapes ( Cut in Half), Frozen Peas or Corn, Mealworms, Lettuce ( Chopped up ) and any vegetable trimmings or peels!!
