Bringing your puppy home is incredibly exciting, but that first trip to the vet can feel like a big day for both of you!

Your puppy’s first visit is about much more than vaccinations. It’s an opportunity to check their overall health, talk through nutrition and parasite prevention, ask all those new-puppy questions and importantly, start building a positive relationship with the vet clinic from day one.

A little preparation can make the whole experience easier. Bring along any paperwork you have, a list of questions and plenty of tasty treats. Keeping things calm, positive and rewarding can help your puppy learn that the vet clinic isn’t such a scary place after all.

And remember, there are no silly questions! Your veterinary team is there to help you navigate those first weeks and give your puppy the healthiest possible start.

Swipe through for Vet Nurse Kim’s guide to your puppy’s first vet visit, including what to bring, what to expect and her top tips for the big day and if you have any questions for me, you can always pop me a WhatsApp or call to 089 420 9366 or email me [email protected] (whether you feed Omuu or not)!

Did you know that periodontal disease is one of the most common health conditions in adult dogs? It often starts with plaque, which can harden into tartar if it's not managed, leading to inflammation of the gums and the tissues supporting the teeth.

The Omuu Oral Care symbol represents nutritional support for dental health.

The science says:
✔ Plaque begins forming on teeth within hours of eating.
✔ Once plaque mineralises into tartar, it cannot be removed by brushing alone and usually requires professional veterinary treatment.
✔ Good oral health supports not only healthy teeth and gums, but also your dog's comfort, wellbeing and quality of life.

Omuu Adult Dog Food and Dog Treats contain Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP), an ingredient that binds calcium in saliva before it deposits onto the teeth, helping to reduce tartar accumulation as part of a complete dental care routine.

Remember, nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle. Daily tooth brushing, regular dental checks and professional veterinary dental care remain the gold standard for keeping your dog's mouth healthy.

🍽️ The clean bowl club is growing...

One of the most common things we hear from Omuu customers is just how much their dogs love mealtime.

From fussy feeders to food fanatics, palatability matters. After all, even the most nutritious food in the world isn't much use if your dog won't eat it!

That's why we're delighted to hear stories of dogs licking bowls clean, racing to dinner and getting excited when the Omuu bag comes out.

Veterinary-developed. Nutritionally complete. Dog approved. 🐾💚

Is your dog a member of the clean bowl club?

Why salmon oil? Because the right fats matter.

Salmon oil is naturally rich in the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA nutrients with important roles throughout the body.

EPA and DHA help support normal skin barrier function and coat quality, joint health, immune function and healthy inflammatory responses. DHA also plays an important structural role in the brain and nervous system.

And because EPA and DHA are already in their long-chain forms, dogs can use them directly without relying on conversion from plant-based omega-3s such as ALA.

It’s not there just to make the ingredient list sound good.

In Omuu, every ingredient has a purpose.

A shiny coat is lovely... but comfortable, healthy skin matters even more.

Your dog's skin is their largest organ and their first line of defence against the outside world. Healthy skin depends on quality nutrition too, not just what goes on the outside.

The science says:
✔ Essential fatty acids help maintain normal skin barrier function.
✔ High-quality protein provides the amino acids needed for healthy skin and hair growth.
✔ Antioxidants help protect cells from oxidative stress.
✔ A healthy gut microbiome also plays a role in skin health through the gut–skin axis, highlighting the close connection between digestive and skin health.

That's why Omuu's Skin & Coat symbol represents carefully selected ingredients that provide nutritional support from the inside out.

💚 Adult Dog Food combines highly digestible Black Soldier Fly protein, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, prebiotic fibres and botanicals to support both gut and skin health.

💚 Joint & Skin Supplement provides targeted nutritional support with marine algae oil, krill protein concentrate, biotin and vitamin E to help maintain healthy skin and a glossy coat.

Suitable for dogs with:
• Sensitive skin
• Dry or dull coats
• Dogs requiring nutritional support for skin health
• Dogs with gastrointestinal sensitivity and chronic dermatological conditions

Every dog is different, so if you're unsure which Omuu product is right for your dog, give Kim, our Registered Veterinary Nurse, a call on 353 89 420 9366 for personalised advice.

Healthy skin starts from within. Explore the Skin & Coat range at Omuu and discover how science-led nutrition can support your dog's health from the inside out. 💚

Feeding with Comfort in Mind
Not every enrichment game has to happen on the floor.

For some dogs, a raised feeding station can make mealtimes more comfortable, particularly those living with conditions such as elbow dysplasia, cervical (neck) pain, arthritis or spinal disease, where repeatedly lowering the head to the ground may be uncomfortable.

Today's Mobility Game encourages gentle movement, problem-solving and natural foraging while allowing food to be presented at a height that may suit some dogs better.

🧠 The science says:
• Enrichment encourages dogs to use their brains as well as their bodies, helping to reduce boredom and providing healthy mental stimulation.
• Working for food activates natural foraging behaviours, which can be highly rewarding for many dogs.
• Feeding at an appropriate height may improve comfort for dogs with certain musculoskeletal conditions by reducing repeated neck and forelimb flexion during meals.

A few important rules:
✔️ Adjust the height to your dog's comfort, not too high or too low.
✔️ The game should move gently, not swing wildly.
✔️ Always supervise your dog while using suspended enrichment.
✔️ If your dog shows signs of pain, frustration or discomfort, stop and adapt the activity.

⚠️ A note about raised feeding & GDV (bloat):
Current veterinary evidence is mixed. Raised feeders are not recommended for every dog, and they may not be appropriate for breeds already predisposed to gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), particularly if they gulp their food or swallow excessive air. If you have a large or giant breed, or a dog with a history or family history of bloat, speak with your vet or veterinary physiotherapist before changing feeding height.

As always, enrichment should be adapted to the individual dog. What helps one may not suit another and comfort always comes first. 💚

Keep your eyes peeled for more healthy feeding, mobility and enrichment tips designed to help your dog move, think and thrive.
