In Argentina, there's a restaurant called Restobar Dickens, with a sign saying:
"We ask all our customers with all our hearts not to be upset by the number of stray dogs that may be in the restaurant.
We are a pet friendly place and we give water, food and lots of love to these sweet angels. I'm sorry if it bothers you, but they're not doing anything wrong, they're just looking for food or shelter.
Thank you very much! ❤️

A poem from a pound dog:

Today is the day that I will die.
My life was short, and I don't know why.
I didn't know this would be my fate,
As the humans just stood at my gate.

In their eyes, I saw their sorrow.
They told me I had no more time to borrow.
My seven days have come and gone.
I still do not know what I've done wrong.

I greeted the humans with a wagging tail,
But their resolve seemed to fail.
I did not understand why they cried.
They told me again that they had tried.

But rescues are full, and I'm on death row,
Which meant I had nowhere to go.
Except for that room at the end of the block,
It was only then I took stock.

I've seen others go in and never come out,
And at this point, I had no doubt.
Today was the day I would die,
And yet I still did not understand why.

As they led me kindly into that room,
I knew my life would end soon.
The needle came out, and the drugs took effect,
The humans held me kindly with respect.

This is the end, and I'm going to die.
And then suddenly, I understood why.
I was bred without care, without thought or reason,
Only because my mom came into season.

I was bred to be sold, bred for money.
At first, my new family thought I was funny.
But as days passed and I grew bigger,
Left alone all day, I began to digger.

Soon they said this was not the place for me,
So up went my ad on Gumtree.
Family dog free to a good home,
Five months old, and no fault of my own.

Next, the place was even less fun.
Kept in a cage, with no hope of a run.
Soon came my first season,
And now I was bred without reason.

My pups were sold, and I was alone.
I hope they've all found loving homes.
Shut in a cage, alone and in the dark,
For hours on end, I would just bark.

Once again, I became too much trouble,
So up went my ad on Gumtree.
The double work commitments forced the sale.
Only ten months old, it's a familiar tale.

The next people seemed nice at first,
But it wasn’t long before the bubble burst.
In this place, I was trained to fight,
But they gave up when I refused to bite.

They spoke to me as I was taken back to the crate,
"If you won’t fight, we’ll use you as bait."
I was chained to a post by my collar,
When other dogs attacked, I would holler.

This life went on for quite some time,
But I was soon told I was past my prime.
I thought we might have been going for a walk,
Yet in the car, there was no talk.

Slowly, the car came to a halt.
I was thrown out the door with a jolt.
I watched as the car sped away.
It was cold and dark, and I had nowhere to stay.

It was by this road that I was eventually found
And taken away by the local pound.
And here I lie as I take my last breath.
I have one thing to ask as I accept my death.

The dog used in "The Road Warrior" (1981), named simply "Dog", was obtained from a local dog pound and trained to perform in the film.

One day before he was to be put to sleep, members of the crew visited his shelter looking for a pet to cast for the film. He was picked out from several other dogs, due to him picking up a rock off the ground and playing with it like a toy.

The crew members realized the dog could have a real presence on film, and had the potential to be trained. This movie ended up being the only film in which he would appear.

the sound of the engines upset him (and in one incident, caused him to relieve himself in the car), he was fitted with special earplugs. After filming was complete, he was adopted by one of the camera operators.

The dog was actually quite fond of actor Bruce Spence. For the scenes where Dog had to act aggressive toward the Gyro Captain, Spence would play with the dog, encouraging him to bite his scarf. Combined with some clever editing and overdubbed growling, this friendly tug-of-war made Dog seem much more aggressive on camera.

The film's gritty and raw depiction of a dystopian future captivated audiences, with its high-octane car chases, stark landscapes, and memorable characters.

"The Road Warrior" not only solidified Mel Gibson's status as an action star but also set a new standard for action films, influencing countless movies and media in the decades that followed.

Its innovative stunts and practical effects, combined with a compelling story of redemption and resilience, make "The Road Warrior" a timeless classic in the annals of cinema.

When I sit upon the couch to watch TV,
My dog, like a child, comes to cuddle with me,
With gentle paws and eyes so bright,
He settles in, a cozy sight.

His head rests softly on my knee,
A silent bond, just him and me,
He nestles close, a warm embrace,
A perfect fit, his special place.

The flicker of the screen may play,
But it's his love that lights my way,
His heartbeat syncs with mine so near,
A rhythm pure, a comfort clear.

His fur is soft, a velvet touch,
In moments like these, it means so much,
To feel his warmth, to share this peace,
A bond that time will never cease.

We sit together, time drifts by,
Beneath the glow of the evening sky,
In his eyes, a love so true,
A loyal friend, through and through.

He nudges gently, seeks my hand,
As if to say, "I understand,
The world's a place of rush and run,
But here with you, I find the sun."

In quiet moments, side by side,
With every cuddle, every tide,
He wraps me in his gentle way,
And all my worries fade away.

For in his love, I've found my place,
A haven in his sweet embrace,
No matter what the world may be,
His cuddles bring tranquility.

So here we'll stay, in perfect tune,
Beneath the stars, beneath the moon,
My dog, my child, my loving friend,
In his cuddles, my heart will mend.

In walls of grey, I lay alone,
Where echoes speak in somber tone.
Once a home, now just a space,
A longing heart, a slower pace.

My eyes, they search for you each day,
In every shadow, come what may.
The gate swings open, hope ignites,
But fades with the falling of the night.

I dream of fields and running free,
Of joyful barks and your pat on me.
But dreams are fleeting, like the breeze,
That whispers through forgotten trees.

I've much to give, love yet to spend,
For loyalty, I'm known to lend.
A noble friend, through thick and thin,
I wait for you, to love again.

So here I sit, with hope's faint glow,
A faithful friend, despite the woe.
For in my heart, I still believe,
In a forever home, I will receive.
