Fluffy coats sometimes need some help to come off when the seasons change ☀️🌤️🌦️🌨️☔️

Clipping is not always done for aethetic reasons, clipping for welfare is the most important reason we clip ✅

Some horses do not lose their coat efficiently, some horses will feel the heat more then others and need to be clipped for their own comfort ❤️

Signs of over heating in horses ⬇️⬇️

📍Excessive sweating
📍Listlessness, often excessive pacing

End of season maintenance 🔩⚙️🔧🪛

The Harmony plus requires some routine maintenance. The drive lever on the Harmony plus is the moving part that drives your blade, therefore this does periodically need to be changed ⚙️

Signs your drive lever needs to be changed ⬇️⬇️

📌Blade slipping out of place and not staying engaged
📌Drive lever chipped at corners

Ways to avoid wear ⬇️⬇️

📌 DO NOT run the machine to snap the blade into place, this will speed up the wear on the drive lever and may cause immediate damage the steel blade hitting the moving drive lever.

Book your Harmony plus in for its end of season MOT here-https://www.liveryman.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Liveryman-Service-Request-Form-Nov-20.pdf

We talk about cobs legs and feather a lot ☺️

We feel like we can do a very small part in raising awareness as to what can live and lurk under feather and hope to encourage owners to check what’s under the feather and know the signs of discomfort 🪶

CPL - Chronic Progressive Lymphoedema

What is it? ⁉️

CPL is a disease of the lymphatic system that affects horses with feather- draught or cob types

It is thought to be genetic and triggered by environmental factors and the animal
Husbandry the horse receives can cause flare ups.

A failing of the lymphatics in the lower legs causes lymph fluid to become trapped where as in a horse that does not suffer from CPL it would drain through the lymph nodes. Lymph carries waste and toxins and if it builds up in the legs it causes inflammation. The bodies response to inflammation is a process called fibrosis which is laying down scar tissue. This is how the signature folds and skin nodules develop.

This time of the year can be difficult for owners of horses suffering with CPL due to ground conditions and increased stabling.

Feather be gone 💨

Did you know opting for a light duty clipper over a trimmer is a better choice when clipping feather ⬇️⬇️

Why❓

✅ Power without the noise and vibration
✅ Blade longevity - blades that can be sharpened
✅ Small cordless handpiece easy to manoeuvre around awkward areas

Clipper desensitisation 👏🏻

If you have a young horse that will be coming into work this summer now is the time to start your clipping prep for next winter ❄️

Top tips-

📍 Leave young horses beside other horses whilst being clipped
📍 Use trimmers frequently in your grooming routine
📍 Use old electric tooth brush to get horses used to vibration

Have you any other tips? ⬇️⬇️

“My horse has started to shed, can I still clip?”😅

✅ Yes of course you can, some horses get uncomfortable during shedding season

✅ Clipping as your horse begins to shed does not impact the summer coat as the winter coat is still very much in place as established

Are you team clip whilst shedding or team wait it out? ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Think of your Donkeys, mini ponies, horses with Cushings as the weather begins to warm up and their shedding is slower 💭

Some equines need a little help to lose the coat if they are not shedding out fast enough ☀️☀️

Equines fhat do not lose their coat efficiently can be at risk of over heating, know the signs ‼️

📍Excessive sweating
📍Listlessness
📍Disorientation

🌟The Finish 🌟

Wide fine 2.4mm blade left 👈
Wide 2.4mm blade right 👉

The wide fine 2.4mm blade has more teeth so leaves the best finish every time ✨✨ They are also the most capable for heavy duty jobs as the extra teeth help them get through dense or coarse coats ✅

The Wide fine 2.4mm are the best option for

📍Feather removal
