“They’re just getting old. It happens to the best of us!” 🤔

Our pets can’t tell us when they are sore and, more often than not, they mask their symptoms. It is, therefore, up to us to recognise discomfort before it becomes suffering. 🤕

September is Pain Awareness Month, and as part of this, we would like to make owners aware of the subtle signs their pets may be uncomfortable 🫂💊

If you feel your pet may be displaying any of the signs above, please get in contact with the clinic on 087 763 3361 to discuss your concerns.

☀️🐶 HEATWAVE WARNING 🐶☀️

With the high temperatures expected over the weekend, we would like to remind everyone how important it is to protect their pets from heatstroke.

Signs of heatstroke include:
⚠️Heavy or continuous panting
⚠️Excessive drinking
⚠️Drooling
⚠️Vomiting/diarrhoea
⚠️Lethargy
⚠️Seizures or collapse

What to do if you suspect heatstroke:
💦 WET THEN VET! 🩺

❗️Move your dog to a shaded area
❗️Douse them in cold water and cover them with wet towels.
❗️If available, use a fan to keep them cool.
❗️Contact your vet immediately

Some tips to keep your pet cool in these conditions include:
✔️Ensure they have adequate access to fresh water and shelter from the heat.
✔️Planning walks for early in the morning or late in the evening.
✔️Avoid hot footpaths/roads- do the 5 second hand test
✔️ NEVER leave them in a car, even for a short period of time
✔️ Take extra caution with flat-faced and giant breeds, thick coated, over-weight, elderly and very young animals

We hope you all have a lovely weekend 🌸 If anyone has any concerns regarding their pets please don't hesitate to call us on 0877633361 🐾

Max was admitted to our clinic a few months ago as he was very dull and not eating. Bloods soon revealed that he was extremely anaemic and desperately needed a blood transfusion. We reached out to our wonderful clients for help and within 15 minutes Enzo, the Doberman came to the rescue bravely donating blood to Max.

Max has been a super patient throughout his entire treatment and we are absolutely delighted to say he has made a complete recovery with the amazing help of his family ❤️‍🩹 but it all wouldn’t have been possible without our donor dog- thanks again Enzo 🦸👏🏻

If you think your dog fits the following criteria and you would like to add them to our list of donors please contact the clinic on 0877633361:

🐶 1-8 years of age
🐶 >25kg body weight
🐶 Up to date with vaccines and worm/flea treatments
🐶 In good health and not on any medication
🐶 Never had a litter of puppies
🐶 Hasn’t travelled outside of Ireland/UK
🐶 Has never received a blood transfusion

🐭❤️ MENDING MILA ❤️🐭

Everybody please meet one of our smallest clients Mila the Guinea Pig.

In October Mila was practising gymnastics on a bed when she had an accident and fell off. She hurt her leg and was brought in to be examined. Our vets carried out some xrays and found that Mila had fractured her femur, which is the large bone in the top of her leg.

Because the fracture was so bad and the bones weren't aligned properly it was decided that Mila would need surgery if we were to save her leg. Mila's owners made the brave decision to give her a chance and she was booked in for surgery the next day.

Performing an operation on such a small animal (weighing only 300g) would be no easy feat. But with careful planning our vet Shane was able to realign the bone and place a tiny intra medullary pin through the bone to hold it in place. Our nursing team monitored Mila carefully while she was under anaesthesia and she came through surgery successfully.

A number of weeks later Mila's owner reports that she has fully bounced back to health - but has left all dreams of a gymnastics career behind her 🐭🤸‍♀️❤️
