Well done to the Garda and the dog unit in finding them. You can’t beat having a dog unit.

Our Roads Policing Unit on duty in Westmeath yesterday received a call on radio about 5pm that a home had been broken into in the area, a large amount of jewellery stolen and the gang had just fled by car.

Luckily, we had a description and model of the car and in knowing how these burglary gangs operate, we got ahead of them along the route that we knew they would take to get to the motorway to abscond from us.

We knew we were on the right course when members of the public began making emergency calls to report dangerous driving through a number of townlands and villages in the county. One passer-by that had seen the car, recounted to our colleague in Command and Control that they all had balaclavas on. We sat and waited for the car to eventually pass us so we could get in pursuit.

And as sure as be told, along it came.

Having failed to stop when prompted, we pursued the car on the N4 and R148 through Kinnegad until we reached Enfield where the lads abandoned the car after a 35 minute pursuit and took off on foot.

We called in backup from our Air Support Unit, Garda Dog Unit, and colleagues from the Mullingar Detective Unit and Trim Garda Station.

Around 9:30pm, our excellent Garda Dog, Cooper put one of the Detective’s on the scent and together they discovered one of the three suspects. The other two suspects were apprehended by two Trim Gardaí after the Air Support Unit guided them through thermal detection.

All three had tried to evade us by jumping into the Blackwater River.

They were arrested, returned to a Garda Station in Westmeath where they were given dry clothes and examined by a doctor to ensure they were all well.

They remain detained for questioning.

We are working today to return the stolen jewellery and are investigating the link between this organised burglary group and a number of break-ins.

Well that was a crazy 5 days at Electric Picnic. I was there working it with Ozzy and he did a great job again. We are both home safe. No matter what the task was he just did it from protecting me, keeping anyone that was not compliant with other security personnel, tracking people through woods, crowd control and responding to any security issues across the whole festival.
If someone was getting out of hand Ozzy and myself were called in and when Ozzy turned up they were much better behaved.
No matter what area we were put in he just did his job. Absolutely nothing bothered him from quiet areas to very loud music.
Overall the crowd at Electric Picnic were very well behaved.
Thank you to the other dog handlers I had there you did a great job.

I’m very proud of Ozzy’s work last night. We were tasked at protecting the main artist and VIP’s at the rear of the stage. Ozzy on a number of occasions alerted me to persons hiding in wooded areas. Some decided to give up and others decided to run. The ones that ran had Ozzy hot on their tail. Ozzy’s tracking skills are fantastic. He located every person he tracked. That’s a 100%.
All the training and hard work paid off and we got home safe.

A dog unit would sort that very quickly. Even the presence of a dog unit can deescalate a situation like this.

Nice evening of training this evening. Little protest in the town so I brought Taser in to get him used to large crowds. He loved it and nothing bothered him. He is a very confident dog.

Do you need a security K-9 unit for a festival, large event or even if you need your house protected while you are away at a wedding or a funeral?

The presence of one K-9 unit is equivalent to several security personal and even the visual presence of a K-9 unit is enough to deter someone from entering your premises.
