We want to talk about our recent surgery known as Intussusception!😰
We have chosen not to attach the surgery pictures as they are very graphic in nature!🙈 but have attached a photo of the issue itself from literary text just to show what we mean!😊 All you squeamish people can thank me later😂
Intussusception is a life threatening condition whereby part of the intestine slides into the adjacent segment of the intestine! This telescoping action can block food and fluid from passing through and cuts of the blood supplying essentially killing part of the intestines😱 very scary indeed!
The surgery is complicated as the section of dead flesh must be carefully removed and the intestines reunited!🙈 It takes a skilled hand to be able to control all of these things in one surgery!!🫣 But thankfully our surgical team never shy away from the challenge🥰
Max actually had 2 separate regions of intestine that needed to be removed!😦 Thankfully though he is well on his way to recovery!🥰 He has recently had his stitches removed and is eating and drinking as normal🥰🙌🏽 What an absolutely trooper!! You wouldn’t catch me out of bed for months after this surgery!!😂
It’s amazing the surgeries that are performed in our little clinic!😇 No problem is too large for our vets! We will do everything to get your animal back to full health!🙌🏽

Look at those big sad eyes!!😭 How beautiful is Archie🥰
Archie was in today to be neutered!🥰 Boys will be boys (or least intact boys will be boys🙄) so Archie was in a bit of a scrap yesterday which has caused an abscess to form on one of his back feet🫣 Thankfully while under anaesthetic he’s getting a full service done!🤗 So the abscess was drained and cleaned and he was neutered all in the one go!🙌🏽 He’s already awake and doing well - if not throwing us some dirty looks😭😂
Did you know? Tomcat cheeks (also known as shields) are caused by the high testerone levels in male cats! They are there for protection during fights and also to signify to any ladies that he’s an eligible bachelor!😎
As squishy and adorable as they are we always recommend for cats to be neutered from 6months of age to prevent or reduce any problems such as; wandering, territorial scenting (spraying), fights, unwanted litters and to stop the spread of FeLV and FIV (Feline AIDS and Leukemia)🥰 Castration for male cats is very quick and requires no stitches! So they are back to their normal selves in a day or so🥰

This gorgeous little guy was brought into us last week as he had been found limping🙈
Thankfully no fractures were found and he went off with some meds to get him back on the mend🥰

We wanted to dedicate this post to the beautiful Millie!🥹 Who, unfortunately passed away peacefully last week!💔
As a vet clinic we have the pleasure of meeting hundreds of wonderful four-legged friends but Millie was truly an extraordinary little lady and her passing has shook all the team here☹️
Despite her having spleen cancer (Hemangiosarcoma), Millie was always the most patient of animals for our vet team. Allowing us to work and carry out each procedure with ease. Despite her diagnosis, she remained in high spirits until the very end - such a hardy little lady!✨ As heart broken as we are of her passing, we are just so thankful to have been entrusted with the care of such a beautiful soul!🙌🏽
The vets worked tirelessly in their work over the last 7months, every possible path was taken to help Millie, and we are so glad she got those extra 7 months to spend being adored by everyone!🥰
But our jobs can only go so far without the combined teamwork of both our veterinary team and her owners.. and we want to give a very special thank you to them👏🏼 They truly went above and beyond for her! Their tireless efforts, coming to every appointment. Trying every treatment. Giving her all the TLC she needed during her illness!
Without them this effort would have been all but lost! Thanks to them Millie got to live another 7 months - to be loved beyond recognition in their care💖 What a lucky lady she was to have been shown such love in her lifetime!🫶🏼
Thank you for being the very best girl Millie🐾 May she rest peacefully!🫶🏼

A very complicated surgery came up last week!😅
This dog came in with a very large tumour growing on one of the front legs! However, looking at it we see the tumour has developed a surplus of veins and arteries to feed the fast growing needs of the tumour🙈 This makes this extremely complicated!🙈 Unfortuntely, all types of cancerous cells require food and when it’s not given enough the tumour eventually gets the body to make extra veins/ateries to get a better supply of food😨
Having so many extra veins and arteries to contend with increases the chances of blood loss a hundred fold😩 It’s a very demanding procedure for surgeons! Making sure they control the bleeding while working around so many teeny, tiny little obstacles at every turn!!😔 It’s slow and steady wins the race though, and of course the tumour was removed successfully and the dog is on the road to recovery!🥰

Unfortunately, due to the recent increase in no shows and short notice cancellations, we have had to amend our policy regarding grooming🙈 With immediate effect a €20 non refundable deposit will be required on the day of booking!Should you need to change your appointment, at least 24hrs notice should be given and we will accommodate you with the next available appointment. The awesome story of Millie!🙌🏽
Millie is a 10year old girl who had been coming into us with numerous symptoms over the last few months! Unfortunately it seemed every time Millie would get better a new symptom would appear🙈 In recent weeks after an ultrasound to confirm, it was discovered that Millie had a large mass growing on the spleen - which unfortunately turned out to be cancerous!😩 Poor lady has been through the mill - but her owners have given her the very best chance and all the love and care she has needed in her road to recovery!🥰
Despite the hardships, Millie never once complained and was always the best girl in the clinic!🥰 She quickly started chemo and once we knew the chemo was preventing the mass from getting any larger the decision was made to perform a total splenectomy!🙌🏽 A massive undertaking that requires the most experienced of surgeons to proceed🥳 this surgery holds many risks but thankfully our surgeons have performed plenty in their careers and are fully comfortable in taking on such a task! The benefits far outweighed the risks in this case!🙌🏽
Millie has since been in to get her stitches removed and is doing fantastic! The wound has healed and she is back to herself (perhaps an organ lighter😂). Looking at the image of her spleen below you can very clearly see the cancerous tissue and why it was so important to remove it🙈 We are so thankful Millie is flying and hope she gets to see many more years as a healthy, happy little lady🥰

Imagine that this tiny wee thing is the head of the femoral bone in a 40kg dog!😅 teeny tiny, eh?🤗
FHO (femoral head ostectomy) is the surgical removal of the femoral head to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased/damaged hip joint! The hip is comprised of a ball and socket joint, the head of the femur (the ball) fits within the acetabulum allowing the hip to move freely. When this is damaged mobility can be affected, which can cause chronic pain and inflammation!🙈
The FHO technique restores this mobility by removing the head of the femur which will free up space in the joint to heal, allowing muscle to eventually grow in its place and provide cushion (known as a false joint) 🤗 a pretty amazing and very difficult procedure to pull off!!🙌🏽 There are many other options in approaching these problems, such as total hip replacements, but this approach fit this case perfectly!🤗
The dog in questions is still on the road to recovery but is already using the leg🙌🏽 The options are endless for our pets and we are so thankful our surgeons here are so well versed in all manner of surgeries - even the most complicated!🙌🏽

Today we wanna talk about the brilliant procedure known as the Myelography!🙌🏽
What is it? The Myelography technique is used to highlight any issues involving the spinal cord! The procedure works by injecting a positive contrast medium into the subarachnoid space which allows the surgeons to get a clear view of the spine on XRay images! The contrast will highlight exactly where and what the problem is with the spinal section!🤗 We can see breaks, compressions, lesions etc. This will then allow our vet team to decide on the best and most effective treatment plan for the animal!🫶🏼
Comparing the procedure to that of CT Scans or MRI scans, this technique is fantastically cost-effective in comparison! Better yet, it is all done over the course of 1 day and is done in the clinic! 🥰 As always, no matter the problem, we strive to give your animals the best possible shot to live long and happy lives!🙌🏽

He may be small but he sure is mighty!🥴🥳
The gorgeous Tommy was in recently to be neutered! Tommy suffers from a problem called cryptorchidism, whereby either one or both testicles do not descend properly!🙈 In tommys case one of his testicles remained within the abdomen! This can cause some major issues over time. It is associated with the higher risks of pernieal hernias, prostate cancer, hormonal/aggression issues etc. It can even disrupt the bodies ability to regulate temperature!🥴
Slightly different from the usual castration as one is playing a game of hide and seek with the surgeons!😭😂 Not to worry though, Tommy has since been neutered and is back to himself🥰 and boy does he let us know it - we wouldn’t wanna mess with this guy😏😂 he’s really a big dog is a little guys body! what a gorgeous boy🥰

Such a pretty girl🥰 The loud and proud Ms Tara was in this morning to get her manicure💅🏼
Tara is 45years young and what a clever lady she is!🥰 As she mimics sounds around her she has, however, learned to cry like a newborn baby when in to get her nails done😭 We promise it’s just a nail clip Tara😂 She certainly put a smile on everyone’s face today while in - what wonderful animals🥹

We’ve heard of monsters under the bed - but what about the monster growing beneath your skin👻 This lipoma, which was an astonishing 1.5kg was removed last week from Buddys underarm! A huge weight off his shoulders - quite literally!!🤫😂
Lipomas are soft fatty masses that grow beneath the skin, and although normally harmless - best to remove for the comfort of the animal!😊 In Buddy’s case this was a very complicated procedure due to the complexity of the anatomy in that area - there are many important nerves and vessels beneath the arm and it takes a very experienced surgeon to work their way around it! To throw an even bigger challenge into this surgery - Buddy is also a long-time epileptic😰 Challenge accepted as always though 🤝 Our surgeons simply adjust the normal protocol to monitor Buddy’s anaesthesia in real-time!🥳

We need our clients help at finding little Gizmo a new home to live out his golden years🥰
Unfortunately, Gizmo’s owner is no longer able to take care of him and is looking for a loving home to take on this cute little guy!🥹
Gizmo has been a client of ours for many years now and has always been the bestest boy! He’s very loveable - always happiest when getting pets!🥰 He’s around 10yrs old but still has plenty of life left in him! Still very much a young man at heart! Loves his walks! He is neutered and up to date with all his vaccinations! Unfortunately all of the rescue centres are full at the moment so Gizmo is staying with us but he needs a place to call his own!
Gizmo does like to voice his opinions a bit - he’s definitely a bit of a barker! Just to let everyone know he’s here and ready for scratches!🙌🏽 Gizmo has also been living in a home where he is using puppy pads as means to use the toilet but we believe he would be able to pick up on toilet training quite quickly!😊 it’s more so ease of use than a training issue!
He truely deserves the best home! Loves people, he’s patient, great with other animals and an all round loveable lil man! We ask that you please like and share this post to get the word around! The very handsome little Turbo was in this week for a very special procedure!😎
Most male animals that come through our surgery doors will be in to be neutered (castrated) - which is the complete removal of both testicles! This removes any chance of impregnating another animal and with it takes away the biggest source of testosterone that would cause them to seek out sexual behaviors such as marking, mounting etc.
However, Turbo was getting a different approach!🥳 He got a vasectomy instead! How does this differ? Well, we do not remove the testicles! We simply tie off, remove or modify the Vas Deferens which are the tubes that transport s***m out of the body!
Why was this approach taken? Turbos owner still wanted him to display all of the typical male behaviors such as mounting etc in order to keep his females coming into regular oestrus - but take away his ability to impregnate!😊 Pretty cool, eh? Not something we get to perform with animals everyday!🥳 Turbo is doing absolutely brilliant - the photo was just after surgery so of course he’s still sleeping off his bruised pride🙈😂

The teeniest little bundle of cuteness!😭 Baby Bambi was in during the week for her vaccinations and was the bravest girl😭😂 Weighing in at a sturdy half a kilo there wasn’t so much as a cry from her while getting her shots🥹 a model patient!🥰 A little lady with a whole lot of love to give! The hardest part was trying to get her to stand still for a photo😭
10/10 best girl!🥳 We look forward to seeing Bambi in again soon for her boosters🥳

Pink to make the boys wink and all that🥰😂
The gorgeous Daisy was in with us at the weekend after getting into a bit of bother!🥺 Poor Daisy decided to jump from a roof and ended up breaking her leg!🙈 Kittens doing what they do best - stressing out their owners!!😂
Her owner was quick into action and got her in shortly after the accident - and after a thorough examination and X-Ray it was confirmed Daisy had a complete fracture of her Ulna!🤕 Thankfully though the Radius was in tact!!
Our vet team applied a splint to the leg to help stabilise the fracture! 🙌🏽 The other bone in the
leg will act as further support in her healing!✨
Of course we had to add a bright pink bandage!😏 A pretty princess indeed! Who says you can't heal in style?? Daisy is only 6months old so this fracture should heal in no time! It'll be keeping her quiet for the next weeks that's the hardest part! 🤫

The wonderful blessing of life🫶🏼 Babies just moments after entering the world - how cute!!😭
The lovely Silver came into some distress on Saturday after giving birth to 2 kittens and unfortunately not being able to deliver her other 2🙈 Obviously this is very dangerous for both mammy and baby!🥺 Thankfully some swift action from both her owners and our surgeons - Silver was brought straight in for an emergency C-Section where these 2 furry angels were delivered🥰
Mammy Silver seems shocked when she wakes from her surgery to find 2 more babies have appeared😂
Silver is doing very well after her emergency surgery and is being the best mom ever! Her and babies are bonding and doing great🥰 she’s taken her first-time mother role very seriously and even started feeding them after her surgery - what a trooper! 🙌🏽

The very lovely Tosia is in with us today for a Radical Masectomy (all of the breasts on one side will be removed)☺️
Why do we do this? We remove the breasts to prevent any problems associated with the reproductive system! In animals who are not spayed we often see problems with masses on the breasts later on in life - which unfortunately, can be malignant🥺 Tosia initially came to the clinic with a few masses on her breast so the decision was made to remove all of the breasts on the the left side to prevent it causing any further harm! She was also spayed on the same day!🫶🏼 What a little trooper! The masses removed from those breasts were sent for biopsy.. and unfortunately were shown to be cancerous! 😭 thankfully the removal was just in time, and with the breasts gone they can no longer cause any harm to this sweet lady!
Look closely at the left side where you will see the remnants of such a big surgery, leaving behind just a faint line!🙌🏽 It is quite a big surgery to undertake but the aftermath is barely noticeable - and of course very beneficial!🥰 Already beautifully healed it is now time to proceed with the removal of the right mammary chain in order to eradicate any future problem for little Tosia✨
She will no doubt be spoiled in the coming days by her lovely owner and I’m sure she will lap up all the TLC while she heals🥰 We wish little Tosia the very best!🥺
