These two beauties are ready to find their forever home......
Dumped in a local walking area a few weeks ago. Found by a family who live near by. Both pups were in excellent condition and seem very well adjusted and socialised. They have started lead training and are doing well.
They will require further training in recall and some toilet training.
They can be homed with another K9 companion and are young enough to learn to live with a cat..
They are approximately 6 months old.
You will be required to sign a neutering agreement....
If you have room in your home and heart, you have the time to train one of these babies and an enclosed garden

Hilda ...Update..
Since our last post on our GSD Lady Hilda, there has been some progress, thanks to the team here at the rescue....
On Tuesday with the help of Tara and Lola, Carita was able to get a slip lead on Hilda and move her to a much larger run...Since then, Carita has made huge headway with her.... She still growls and strips her teeth, but is more than happy to have a lead put on and be moved around the rescue..
Last night she actually came to Carita of her own free will....As you can see from the pictures....We are taking it very slowly, but the progress she has made in a few days is amazing and a very positive sign...

We have long been advocates of the saying " There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. "

As dog owners we have a responsibility to care for our dogs, socialise and train them, and to keep them safe and under control.

Thank you to two groups of very special young people...

The pupils in 4th class of the Ursuline Primary school here in Thurles donated €650.00 to the animals in our care..
They raised this my knitting chick's, local shops donated easter eggs to accompany the chick's. The girls set up a shop in school and sold them to raise funds..

The little people of Sean Teacy Avenue here in Thurles and an impromptu " music session" in the street and collected €51.00 which they donated to the pooches..

It does my heart good to see young people taking and intrest not only in Mo Chara but in Animal Welfare in general.
These are the rescuers of the future...

The real face of rescue!!
This girl was surrendered to us on Wednesday. She has sat in this corner of the run since then.
Whilst her owner was here she was absolutely fine. As soon as he drove out of the gates, she turned into a anxious wreck. She is not eating and none of us can get near her... She is very fear aggressive and will bite...
We have had a lot of fear aggressive dogs through the rescue, but none as bad as poor Hilda.
She hasn't been socialised, her coat is almost felted, she's not spayed and had no vaccinations since she was a pup!!
Carita has been working with her everyday to try to gain her trust but to no avail....
We cannot even go into her run to clean it properly....
Today we rang the owner and asked him to come out to the rescue , he point blank refused....He has too much going on in his life!!!!
What an absolutely sh*te excuse....basically he has dumped his terrified, aggressive 40kg german shepherd on us...
Carita and I are so angry, we cannot get near her to administer even basic care..
We are at our wits end here....
Shame on the so called owner, he should never have another dog again!

Meet Shaun the little sheep 🤩😆❤️
This little rough coated mix breed is 14 weeks old and is currently living in foster with 2 Lurchers, an elderly Chihuahua and a cat. He would love a home with another dog for company and to play with. Shaun is full of puppy mischief, loves collecting shoes and socks. He is an affectionate, friendly and playful little boy. House training is going well but will need to be continued in his new home. We think he will be medium seized when fully grown.

Not one home offer for tiny Izzy....... 💔

Izzy is approximately 6 years old, she is a small, middle aged JRT lady with a rather large personality 🤩. Izzy loves people and is extremely affectionate. She is quite grumpy with other canines and will have to be an only dog,vshe is not fond of cats either 🐱. Izzy loves walkies and has a little pep in her step when out and about. She is very clean and apreciates a soft, comfy bed with blankies to snuggle under. She loves fancy collars, especially with a flower on it, preferably in pink. 😀

Our catfriendly Sky is looking for her forever home 🐶😍🐶

Sky is a beautiful 9 months old mix breed. This young lady is currently in foster with Tara. Sky has been sharing her foster home with an older JRT and two cats. She is house and crate trained and travels well in the car. Her ideal home would be with another dog for company, dog savy children over 6 and a family committed to continue with her training as she is extremely clever.

"This is the gorgeous gentle Sky, she is around 9 months old and has come a long way. She is crate trained and cat and dog friendly, she is goofy and cuddly and loves her food, treats and toys. Sky will need more work on socialising and lead walking but is incredibly clever and highly trainable.

This week has been extremely upsetting for us all here at Mo Chara. Three of the five dogs we have taken in over the last 2 days are in need of addition veterinary care on top of the basics we give every dog....
No matter how long you rescue animals, the wanton cruelty and neglect is something that is always horrifying and upsetting.
Most of these poor misfortunates land up in dog pounds as they are found straying. They belong to so called owners who either can't be bothered to look for their dog, or won't look for them as they know they need medical attention.
Most of them are not microchipped. The ones that are, very few are registered to the current owners and most are not registered at all......
Odin is a very gentle lurcher boy, he was found straying, emaciated and full of fleas. He is blind in his right eye which is swollen and has an infection. He will probably need the eye removing.

Oscar is a young pointer, this boy was also found straying, he is almost half the body weight he should be, he also has alot of pressure sores. We assume that he has been dumped at the end of the hunt season or because he is sick. He will need a full blood panel done and then we will have some idea as to what is going on with him.

Finally we have Nora. This very old lady was also found straying. She is well over 10 years, extremely doddery and her sight is not great. She also has a mouth full of rotten teeth. Carita and I have both fallen in love with her sweet nature. We are absolutely devastated to find today that she has a number of large mammary tumours. One of these has ulcerated. She had a visit to the vets today. The tumour has been cleaned and she has been put on pain meds for a few days. She will have a follow up visit next week, and a plan for her treatment will be made.
Should she have terminal cancer as long as she is not in pain she will live her life out at the rescue. As with all the oldies we have had through the doors, we try to make their last weeks as happy as possible. We will take Nora out for day trips and treats so she will know what it's like to be loved...

Robyn 💕❤️💕

This beautiful rough coated mix breed puppy joined us from the pound a few weeks ago. Robyn is approximately 6 month old and has a lot of growing to do. Lead and recall training are going well. House training will need some fine tuning.
This lady is affectionate, playful and very goofy.
Robyn can live as an only dog or with a k9 companion, depending on introduction. She is young enough to learn how to live with cats.

Proudly introducing tiny Luke 🥰

Luke was found by a member of the public a few weeks ago. He was in terrible condition, covered in puncture wounds that were left untreated. His injuries had become so badly infected that we could smell how bad the infection was. In fact it was that bad, the infection tunneled 5cm between the skin and various subcutaneous structures. Thanks to our vets O'Connor Julian Veterinary little Luke has healed and is now looking for his forever home. 🏡
Despite his ordeal Luke is an outgoing, energetic and friendly little chap. He is looking for the following:
💕as an only dog or with a calm, friendly dog of similar size depending on introduction.
💕a calm home, with someone home a reasonable amount of time, older children 12 onwards.
💕no cats .
💕loads of soft, fluffy beds and blankets, Luke likes it comfy and cosy.
💕indoor homes only, a secure garden and a home check will apply

Today we shed happy tears as little Jenny left for her forever home. She has gone to live with two other Mo Chara dogs. Petal ( PJ) and Polly (Granny B).

Rehoming a lurcher here in Ireland is very difficult, rehoming a black lurcher is even more so......

Lurchers are the most misunderstood and abused dogs in Ireland.
They make absolutely fantastic pets.
