“means to excite, encourage, or breathe life into”. Mental health and wellbeing are something both Hazell and Michelle are very passion about. Vet Space Ireland’s main aim is to help inspire all veterinary professional’s to be their best, enjoy their work and most importantly look after themselves. Sometimes it really is the little things that help get you through the day. Vet Space wants to ensure that positive wellbeing is achievable for everyone, to advocate for appropriate and necessary work life balance and to offer support where we can.

New Grad Top Tips from 🩺🐾

1. **Find a Good Mentor**:
- Ensure you have a mentor who can guide you effectively.
- A good mentor will provide invaluable advice and support throughout your career.
- Accept criticism constructively, knowing it is meant to help you grow.

2. **Don't Take Criticism Personally**:
- Understand that everyone starts somewhere and learning is a continuous process.
- Use feedback to improve your skills and knowledge.

3. **Accept That You Don't Know Everything**:
- It's normal to encounter situations you are unfamiliar with.
- Recognize that different people have various approaches to tasks and learn from them.

4. **Prioritize Your Duties**:
- Learn to manage your tasks effectively, especially in a busy environment.
- Focus on what is most important and urgent.

5. **Handle Emergencies with Care**:
- Emergencies can be highly stressful, but stay calm and focused.
- Remember that doing your best for the patient is what matters most.

6. **Maintain a Work-Life Balance**:
- Engage in activities outside of work, such as running, socializing, or other hobbies.

Since joining Village Vets in 2016, my career has flourished. I have had the opportunity to hold various roles such as Head Nurse and Clinic Manager, Project Manager, and Area Manager. Currently, I am proud to serve as the Veterinary Nursing Communications Development Leader. These experiences have enriched my professional journey and reinforced the importance of continuous learning and adaptation.

By following these tips, you can navigate the challenges of your early career and set the foundation for a successful future in veterinary nursing.

New Ambassador Alert! We are delighted to welcome Dr. Annie Baltz to the Vet Space Ireland Team.

Annie graduated from university in 2013 and worked in the first and largest cat only hospital in Brazil. Annie has a Masters in Small Animals Medicine, a cert in surgery, and is currently undertaking a cert in feline medicine. She also has advanced training in ultrasonography. She is an experienced Clinical Director and has a passion for promoting advanced care in practice.

Annie is a Fear Free certified veterinary professional, and her areas of interest are surgery, feline medicine, clinical mentorship, and business management.
She is a proud mom of 2 little humans and 2 pets, a German Shepherd named Shiva and a Bengal cat named Thor.

Annie will join the Vet Space Ireland Team as our Editor. Please make her welcome 👏

1. Do one thing at a time

You have the power to control everything you do. So stop the multitasking, no more running around like a headless chicken, just breath and do one thing at a time. Give it your focus and your attention. Intentionally say to yourself, "I'm doing one thing at a time."

New Ambassador Alert! We are delighted to welcome Dr. Niamh Casey to the Vet Space Ireland team.

Niamh is a veterinary surgeon from Cork. She graduated from the University of Dublin in 2017 and has a special interest in small animal orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
She completed a rotating internship at Northwest Veterinary Specialists in the UK, followed by a specialist internship in small animal surgery at Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital in 2019.
She completed the RCVS certificate in General Small Animal Surgery in 2022. Niamh is currently studying towards an Advanced Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery with Improve International.
She joined Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital in 2024 and is delighted to be part of such a diverse and passionate team with excellent resources. Outside of veterinary Niamh enjoys CrossFit and horse riding.

Niamh will be sharing her surgical experiences here on Vet Space Ireland. She also hopes to use this platform to support colleagues within this very challenging and equally very rewarding profession.

New Ambassador Alert! Vet Space Ireland is delighted to welcome Dr. Avril McGinn to the committee.
Avril is a veterinary surgeon from Kildare. She graduated from the Dick Vet in 2012 and has a passion for small animal first opinion veterinary.

She has completed RCVS postgraduate certificates in Small Animal Medicine and Dermatology and is undertaking an Msc in Clinical Education with her alma mater, University of Edinburgh.

In general practice, she ran a new graduate mentoring programme and a dermatology service. Mentoring and education has since led Avril in another direction, and in 2023, she joined the clinical education team in UCD, teaching clinical and professional skills.

You might hear her before you see her thanks to her Yorkie and Chihuahuas! And when she is taking a break from veterinary, she can be found with her supercob, Sparky!

Vet Space Ireland is delighted to welcome Dr. Lisa Schaefer as our new ambassador.

A German American, Lisa is a registered nurse, a vet tech, and a veterinary surgeon. Lisa spent much of her ems time in vet school seeing practice in Ireland, where she fell in love with the standard of veterinary, and the people, and last year, decided to make Ireland her home.

Her main areas of interest are fear free veterinary, canine behaviour, anaesthesia & analgesia, and surgery.

Lisa is an expert level Fear Free Veterinary Professional and has recently completed a cert in canine behaviour.

She is also Mum to two beagles, Kylie & Rosie, an American paint horse Trini, a Shetland pony Charlie, and a Greek Tortoise Cleo.
