❤️❤️❤️❤️

People who rescue the "unwanted" dogs, you are my heroes.
That is all.

(Of course it goes without saying that those who volunteer and dedicate their lives to rescue, you are also legends but this post is for those who adopt the dogs they think no-one else will)

Although still classified as livestock in Ireland 😭😭, the beautiful Greyhounds are just as worthy of our love and respect as any other breed.

Greyhounds are dogs too!

Sunday afternoon, sure what else would you be doing? Learn from the masters of relaxation, the rescue hounds. Warm and safe in their foster homes they can finally pan out and let the world go by.

Two years ago today a large, beautiful and gentle coursing greyhound called Dante went to a foster home under our care. This was the start of an idea to create a dedicated greyhound fostering group. 6️⃣7️⃣ We did a count and in the meantime this small rescue has helped 67 greyhounds. The majority of these dogs came straight off the racetrack into our care and the future for most of them would have been very bleak otherwise. It's really something to be proud of. But people's life circumstances change and we always need new fosterers.
💡If you think you’d like to give this very rewarding experience a go please contact our page or Text only Martina on 087-9418477
These dogs ask for very little, are low maintenance and more relaxed than most small dogs, and need just 2x 20 minute walks a day. Everything is provided to make sure you have positive experience and our group is very welcoming and anxious to share our experience with any new members. Send us a message if you're interested in hearing more.💡

Here's someone who is not going back to work today, or any other day. Rescued from the racing industry, our Brahm is safe and happy in his foster home with a bright future ahead.

Another new experience for Brahm the rescue hound ❤️ with his foster family. He had never seen the sea before he came to Galway and was very confused by it initially. He got the hang of it quickly though and loves the open space and other dogs.

This gentle giant is Hercule. It seems the bigger they are, the softer they are.

He has been with his foster family for 6 weeks now and he is adorable. He is still very wary of people but loves the people he has gotten to know and looks forward to his daily routine of going to the office, his local coffee shops, visiting his neighbours after dinner and his weekend visits to his favourite dog-friendly bars. He has already had the chance to visit beaches, woods and Christmas markets - all little adventures that were thrilling for him.

He is amazing around children and other dogs and lets them pet him and greet him - adults need to work harder with him 🙃 He eats everything and loves his routine of sharing an apple or banana with his family while chilling out in the evening. This handsome guy has even helped attract donors to our bucket collections.

What are his top 🔝 favourite things to do??? Eat and sleep 😁😁 So much so that he is a nuisance in the kitchen because he likes to sleep under your feet while you cook so that he can keep an eye out for any food 😂😂

Hercule has his forever family eagerly waiting for him in Italy 🇮🇹 where he will continue to live an amazing life that he deserves and go on more little adventures ❤️🐾

Before any greyhound in our care ever gets to spend time with a kitty they must consistently show over weeks or even months that they have no interest in chasing or hurting them.

Greyhounds are bred and institutionalised to chase small fluffy things but some are just born and grow up without this prey drive - like Kenny.

You will remember Kenny who came to us as his owners were trying to have him put to sleep beause he was too shy to race. Well Kenny is shy yes but also is showing huge promise at being cat friendly so lacks the prey drive required to chase a rag on a stick on a stupid and dangerous oval track.

He has been spending short spells with his foster brother Kevin the cat and doing very well. Kenny shows us every day his beautiful gentle side. We of course keep his muzzle on for Kevin’s safety at all times. The muzzle can eventually be phased out over time but it’s early days for Kenneth right now.

It’s good to know that Kenny is showing great promise and for now can potentially live with a dog savvy kitty cat. This opens so many more home options to our lovely boy! 💕
