On Saturday some of our foster hounds, @deelanimalrescue team & foster families and some of the Pet levrieri ETS team came together to meet and greet and share stories about our work, and our rescues who are waiting to travel to Italy, and receive updates on those who have gone ahead and joined their forever families there. The sun came out to shine and the doggies were suitably wrecked at the end of the day after all the fun and excitement 😄. . . @deelanimalrescue @pet_levrieri #deelanimalrescue #rescueadoptloveforever #petlevrieri #petsofinstagram #rescuegreyhoundsofinstagram #greyhoundsofinstagram #rescuegreyhound #greyhoundlove #rescuegreyhounds #greyhoundsmakegreatpets #greyhoundpet #petlevrierionlus #adoptdontshop #fosteringsaveslives #fosteragreyhound #greyhoundobsessed
You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but he can learn on his own!! #rescuegreyhound #octopus #ikeahack
Vinny & Toby ex-racing greyhounds celebrate one year of their new life in Italy with their amazing forever family. They originally only planned to adopt one, but couldn't leave either of them behind when it came right down to it, so they took both. Vinny the live wire of the group as usual.
Another new experience for Brahm the rescue hound ❤️ with his foster family. He had never seen the sea before he came to Galway and was very confused by it initially. He got the hang of it quickly though and loves the open space and other dogs.
Before any greyhound in our care ever gets to spend time with a kitty they must consistently show over weeks or even months that they have no interest in chasing or hurting them.
Greyhounds are bred and institutionalised to chase small fluffy things but some are just born and grow up without this prey drive - like Kenny.
You will remember Kenny who came to us as his owners were trying to have him put to sleep beause he was too shy to race. Well Kenny is shy yes but also is showing huge promise at being cat friendly so lacks the prey drive required to chase a rag on a stick on a stupid and dangerous oval track.
He has been spending short spells with his foster brother Kevin the cat and doing very well. Kenny shows us every day his beautiful gentle side. We of course keep his muzzle on for Kevin’s safety at all times. The muzzle can eventually be phased out over time but it’s early days for Kenneth right now.
It’s good to know that Kenny is showing great promise and for now can potentially live with a dog savvy kitty cat. This opens so many more home options to our lovely boy! 💕
‼️ Assessing greyhounds with cats is always done in a controlled way and only ever done if a foster greyhound shows consistent lack of interest and prey drive towards cats, whether the cat is running or just in close proximity. This is why Kenneth wears his muzzle and we have 2 adults in the room. ‼️
Kevin the cat and an oasis of calm are all helping Kenny the rescue hound to learn that maybe he can be okay with small furry things sharing the house. Kevin has several big dogs at home so he's well used to them and a great helper. Hard to say how it will go but it's a good start.
Two beds and a couch in the room and where does he lie? Right under my feet all safe in the sunny spot.

Ex-racing greyhound has never had toys before, but he is learning very fast. #greyhoundadoption #petlevrieri #deelanimalrescue #sighthound #greyhoundlove
Sunday cuddles with Manny, it’s his house now! Running from room to room and bed to bed playing "the floor is lava" is his current favourite thing.
He also loves to drink from the lovely upstairs fountain (the loo!)
We forget they are only babies, Manny is only gone 2 years old. ♥️🐾
When Manny came to his foster home first he was too frightened to be caught on a lead. He was petrified of humans - he had no trust at all. Thankfully he gets better every day 💫
