My name in Tanya and I’ve been working as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant for over 13 years now. This covered areas such as Development of Behaviour in Animals, Practical Animal Care, Animal Welfare and Pre Veterinary Nursing. Recently I have completed some CPD training through the International Society of Feline Medicine in The Care of Elderly Cats and Kitten Care and have also done a Perfect Pupp

y Foundations course through the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers. I am currently working in a Veterinary Practice in Co. Wicklow that deals with domestic pets and farm animals, and have previously worked for a Veterinary Practice who looked after exotic and domestic pets where there were all sorts of weird and wonderful animals to meet and care for. During my time as a Veterinary Nursing Assistant I have had the pleasure of hand rearing many litters of kittens and see them off to new homes. This is one of the most rewarding things that I get to do, especially as a cat fanatic. Mind you its always hard to say goodbye to the babies when you have formed such a bond. My girl Chloe was one of my first hand rears. I have worked in Dublin Zoo as a volunteer which was just wonderful, and in 2007 I traveled to Zimbabwe in Africa to work with Lions on the Alert Lion Release Program which was an incredible experience as cats of all sizes have always held a special place in my heart. I am offering a bespoke Cat Sitting Service for you and your cat. I will visit them in your home, make sure they are fed, have clean water and litter, have a bit of company and are as happy as they would normally be. I can spend as much or as little time with your cat (or cats) as you like. I am experienced in administering medication, so cats with medical issues can be catered for in a professional manner also. Having someone visit your home also gives you that extra sense of security while you are away. I can tend to plants, remove mail from the front door and any other small similar tasks. For me putting my cats into a cattery when I go away for a night or two or on an extended vacation is not an option. Cats are territorial animals and also fairly solitary. Putting them in an unfamiliar place, perhaps with other cats around them can make them unhappy and cause them to stop eating. (“Generally cats dislike changes within their environment. Leaving their home can be intimidating, everything they know changes, and they do not know that you’ll be back to pick them up. Some cats are more sensitive to this and a change of routine from their owner can can cause a lot of discontent (ref Feliway ®)”). I know the stress that environmental changes can have on a cat and so for me I would always rather have someone call to them in their own home to feed and play with them for a bit, and make sure they have what they need in the comfort and security of their own home rather than being in a cage in a strange place, with strange sights, sounds and smells all around them.
