Southview Veterinary Hospital has been caring for pets since 2003 and is the only practice in Ireland to be able to offer transcervical insemination using a guided scope.
Senior Vet and Partner Alan Ahearne is very proud of how the practice has developed over the last 20 years.
“But most of all, I'm very grateful to our clients that have allowed us to go on this journey.”
The compassionate, professional team also specialises in canine cardiology, orthopedics, and physiotherapy. Watch our video to find out how Southview helps to keep pets in Ireland happy and healthy.

Meet Grace!
Qualifying in 2019, Grace Donnellan became head nurse at Lakeside Veterinary Hospital in 2022. As the nursing team leader, Grace liaises with the practice manager on staffing and rotas. She has had referral experience and received the Feline Nursing Certificate from the International Society of Feline Medicine in 2022 with a distinction. She is the proud owner of two cats, Dermot and the three-legged Henry.
She says that being a veterinary nurse is such an important clinical role.
"Veterinary nurses provide both emergency and routine healthcare as well as being responsible for the prevention of disease. We put our patient's welfare before anything. I am proud to be a veterinary nurse!"
She went on to say,
"Being part of the nurse's clinical board allows me to be a voice and raise awareness for the entire veterinary nursing community within IVC Evidensia Ireland. The nurse clinical board aspires to make positive changes, and we hope to empower other nurses."

Introducing Laura McKay!
Laura’s journey into veterinary began in 2003 when she worked as an animal care assistant. She decided to study veterinary nursing in 2006 and qualified in 2009. She has worked in first-opinion and emergency care. Laura also gained referrals experience in the UK. Her passion as a veterinary nurse is anaesthesia, completing a post-graduate certificate in both anaesthesia and emergency and critical care. Continuing her study in this area, she is working on a master’s in veterinary anaesthesia.
She enjoys mentoring junior nurses and is passionate about supporting standards around anaesthesia safety and pain management. Ensuring her patient’s journey is as safe and comfortable as the team can make it is a top priority for her. As is the well-being and mental health of her veterinary colleagues. She believes that working to help retain ‘nurses especially’ within her profession is incredibly important.
Laura said,
"Being part of the IVC veterinary nurse board, I strive to promote the importance of our profession and our involvement in patient care. I feel our nurses play a central role in patient care and well-being, with the capacity for our role to grow and develop,
She went on to say,
"This month, we celebrate veterinary nursing awareness month which highlights our contribution to the profession and aims to bring awareness to nurses and their colleagues that they are truly valued."

Introducing Gráinne!
After qualifying in 2014, Gráinne joined Sunbeam Veterinary Hospital in Cork. She has completed a certificate in wound management and a post-graduate certificate in surgical nursing. Gráinne enjoys being involved in CPD and has given talks on wound management at her local clinical society.
She heads a team of 9 nurses and assists with managing the nursing teams in the four Sunbeam branch practices. In her day-to-day work, she loves general nursing and helps to run the CT referral side of the practice.
"Nursing is such a huge part of veterinary care but can be overlooked by the public. They see the vets and front-of-house team but don't see the behind-the-scenes team.
Says Gráinne. She went on to say,
"Behind the scenes, veterinary nurses are taking bloods and x-rays, comforting the dogs that are missing their families, hand feeding and coaxing the dogs who are too anxious to realise they need to eat, celebrating the end of a long chemotherapy road, advocating for their patients who can't speak for themselves etc. Being part of that and representing that group of people is an honour and a privilege. Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month is a chance to acknowledge the good work that is being done by some of the hardest workers in the veterinary field."

Introducing Amy Phillips Wood!
Amy qualified as an RVN in 2012 and went straight into a small animal practice in Dublin. She then travelled for two years throughout Asia and Australia. During her time in Australia, she gained invaluable experience working in Emergency and Critical Care and looking after some native Australian wildlife.
Amy is passionate about providing the best care to her patients and broadened her study by obtaining a postgraduate certificate in Anesthesia and Analgesia in January 2022. As a Nurse Board member for IVC Evidensia Ireland, Amy is just as passionate about empowering our nurses. She believes that the board's support and training are key to helping nurses succeed in their roles. She says,
"As a Veterinary Nurse we need to be an advocate for our patients who can't advocate for themselves. I'm extremely passionate about patient care whether that be medical or surgical and think we as nurses play a huge part in patient care. And being part of the nursing board for me is being a voice for other nurses in the industry. A support that allows nurses to excel within the nursing field, to broaden their education and be the best nurses they can be. I love to see VNs excel within the industry and to be seen as an integral part of the veterinary team."

Continuing our celebration of IVC Evidensia Ireland’s nurses during May, we would like to introduce you to Gillian Lynch.
Gillian has worked in the Veterinary profession for over 20 years, qualifying as a Veterinary Nurse in 2002. She has worked in four Dublin-based clinics, including working in a fast-paced Pet Emergency Hospital. After being head nurse at two clinics, she progressed into the managerial aspect in 2016. Gillian has a Diploma in Business Management and holds a National Qualification in Personal Training.
Excited to face the challenges that come with being IVC Evidensia Ireland’s newest Business Support Manager, Gillian’s wealth of clinical knowledge and experience is a great asset to the team. She said,
"As cliché as it sounds since I was a child, I always wanted to work with animals. 25 years later I am very lucky and grateful to still be involved in the Veterinary Nursing Industry. Being part of the IVC Nursing Board is an honour and a place where I can hopefully share some of my knowledge and expertise but also learn from the newer vet nurses. The learning never ends, which is I suppose what makes it one of most rewarding careers."

We are celebrating our hardworking veterinary nurses across Ireland for Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month. We thought introducing you to IVC Evidensia Ireland’s Nurse Board would be a good place to start.
We are kicking off with Bébhinn O hEochaidh, the chair of the board and Business Support Manager for our wonderful practices in Ireland.
Bébhinn has had what some consider an unorthodox route into veterinary nursing, starting as a chef and then heading into the financial world. But working under some of Ireland’s top chefs and then as a mortgage advisor has given her a great business background. Along with an invaluable experience in client relations.
Her love of animals meant she wasn’t feeling completely fulfilled in her financial roles and in 2014 she headed back to full-time education to qualify with a BSc in Veterinary Nursing in 2017. She joined Sunbeam Veterinary Group in 2017 and was part of the group when they joined the IVC Evidensia Ireland family in 2019.
She says,
‘My experience in client relations and love of animals means I am in absolutely the right position to support our nursing teams in everything they do. I am passionate about helping them provide the best care for our clients and their pets. And I feel privileged to be forging a path for all the nurses at IVC Evidensia Ireland to be the best they can be.’
Watch this space as we celebrate our nurses throughout the whole of May! #IVCEvidensiaIreland #IVCEvidensiaCares #VNAM2023

See how IVC Evidensia Ireland's CPD program helps its vets provide the highest standards of care with this video from the latest day of CPD.
This session was headed up by Natasha Mitchell, veterinary ophthalmologist and Group Veterinary Advisor at IVC Evidensia Ireland.
“Days like today provide invaluable training. It's a wonderful addition to our teaching. The best part is how enthusiastic the vets are. They're really hungry for knowledge.”
Alan Rossiter, also Group Veterinary Advisor at IVC Evidensia Ireland, says there's a whole program of CPD planned.
“IVC Evidensia Ireland is unique in the level and quality of internal CPD we provide. There's no other group within Ireland providing anything like this for their vets.”

With almost 100 years of clinical experience, the team at Crescent Veterinary Clinic is passionate about providing high-quality care.
"We’re a purposeful practice. We provide compassion and empathy for our pets and their owners. And we care about providing a good service." says Practice Manager Michelle O’Grady.
The most satisfying part of the job for Clinical Director Hugh O’Callahan is seeing an animal recover.
"What’s fantastic is seeing them and their owners 4 weeks on, 6 weeks on, completely recovered and doing well."
