The Power of Trying Something New

Sometimes, you’ve got to approach things a little differently. A couple of months ago, I had an idea what if we talked about calf health in a new way? As a visual learner, I asked myself: how can we bring the story of calf health and gut health to life? And how can we highlight the positive applications of Precision Microbes, a real game-changer in gut health?

Calf health can sometimes feel like a boring message, but after years of traveling, working with calves, and thinking deeply about what makes a difference, two key things stand out: consistency and attention to detail. The ultimate goals of calf rearing are simple healthy calves, less disease, and less sickness. But to achieve these goals, it all comes down to habits.

So I started thinking what are the most successful habits in calf rearing?

Colostrum management quality, timing, and hygiene

Feeding and nutrition simplifying how we explain it and linking it to immune health

Hygiene “ a challenging but critical concept to visualise

Calf comfort and space biological optimisation for youngstock

Fresh air and environment understanding its impact

Stress management what does stress look like in calves?

Stockmanship recognizing the key role of the people caring for calves

All these elements needed to be brought to life in a visual and engaging way. Thats where the Calf Health Roadshow came from the inside out.

Now, I won’t lie the first couple of attempts weren’t brilliant. But with each event, the message got clearer, the visuals improved, and I learned more about how to communicate it effectively. Thats the challenge with new ideas they're never perfect the first time, but you have to be willing to try.

After a week in the UK, Ive seen firsthand how much this approach resonates with people. When you can visualize the simple things in calf health, they become easier to apply. I don’t claim to have reinvented calf health, but sometimes, the real breakthrough comes from looking at old ideas in new ways.

So, my message is simple: try new things. When dealing with complex topics, we need to find better ways to explain why we do certain things.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the UK sessions last week it was fantastic to have such great discussions! And what was really exciting? At every meeting, someone had used Precision Microbes and shared their positive experiences. It really is a game-changer in gut health!
