We have treated a number of dogs the past few days for heatstroke. This is a life threatening veterinary emergency. All of these dogs unfortunately have been brachycephalic breeds (squished face). Their elongated soft palates and narrow nostrils mean it’s harder for them to take in oxygen. Please do not walk them in the midday heat and take the necessary precautions to keep them cool.
If you suspect your dog is overheating and is struggling to breathe please take them to a veterinary hospital ASAP.

We urge people to take advantage of this offer. We have been knee deep in unwanted kittens, some in very poor condition. We have been devastated recently by an outbreak of panaleukapaenia (feline form of parvo) We have had kittens on drips in vets but because they were so small, we lost the majority of them. This virus is very hard to fight particularly for very small kittens that are already in poor condition. Unless you're prepared to look after your kittens, vaccinate and neuter them before they go to their new homes, you are adding to the problem. Get your cat neutered now. There are enough kittens out there looking for good homes

We are glad to announce we are running another cat neutering scheme for the month of November. This is largely due to extra funds we got through fundraising by Grainne Culliton and her husband Bobby and also to recent funds raised by Orla Glancy. We wish to thank the vets in Laois for having no hesitation in participating in this which meant taking a big cut in their prices. We urge people to avail of this and help bring down the number of unwanted kittens. Kittens from 4 months onwards can be neutered/spayed.
