Irish Wolfhound puppy lit by a slanting Sun.

Does anyone else remember that poem Pádraig Pearse wrote in Kilmainham jail while waiting to be executed for his part in the 16 Easter raising?

Anyway in this video I said it was Yates. But it wasn't him. Another talented Irish writer though.

Mo Chuisle food a broken buoy off a lobster pot. Well the craic she had throwing into the air and flinging it hither and thither.

Next she found a live crab the size of my fist and had the craic with Mr Crabs too.

The Men's Strand is covered in seaweed this morning. Mo Chuisle loves sniffing all the strange smells. The air smells even salter when there's a load of seaweed washed up.

Better still the wee Beach Pipits forage around it and Mo Chuisle gets to give chase and switch on her over drive function. Front paws as if cutting daisies, head down arse in the air and as graceful as a ballerina.

In about two weeks I'll be collecting our new family member. A cream coloured Irish Wolfhound girl pup.
We have nine terrific native Irish dog breeds. Instead of getting a forth Kerry Blue Terrier, a breed I truly love. I've decided to get an Irish Wolfhound as there is none locally around Ballybunion. Which is sad. If you see me walking our new pup, be sure to stop me for a chat as I'm a chattyman.

Irish Wolfhounds have zero aggression towards other dogs and are the King of all dog breeds dating back to 7000BC!

That said I never let clients Furbabies mix with other dogs as I believe it's very foolish to take needless risks.

Way way back 300 odd years ago my ancestors used to breed Wolfhounds and sell them to the French army.

We have 9 truly amazing native Irish breeds. Three 100% non-shedding. In Kerry we're the only county with two breeds. The Kerry Beagle which is nearly extinct and the Kerry Blue Terrier which Michael Collins picked as the Irish representative dog breed. The first dog to ever win the triple crown of dog shows was a Kerry Blue called Mick from Liverpool. He won over 100 best in shows and Crufts, AKC and Westminster dog show beating over 20'000 dogs at the three biggest dog shows. His show name was Torum scarf Michael. My first KBT was related to his father Louisburg dannyboy.

If you call into Wolfe's bookstore in Listowel they stock the book "The Curious History of Native Irish dogs". It's a great read & well worth acquiring.

Another ditty. Ireland is the only country to use both a musical instrument (the Harp) and a dog ( the Irish Wolfhound) as state emblems.

Our new family Furbaby is 100% cream coloured. Irish Wolfhounds come in about 14 different colours with and without brindle. Michael G Clancy used to have two of them next door to me when I was a kid. Tara and Bran. It's hard to explain. But Irish Wolfhounds are a very spiritual animal. They like to attempt to have long gaze into your eyes and if you don't reciprocate they ignore you. They're called the King of all dog breeds for a number of reasons. One, all Royal European families used to keep and gift each other Irish Wolfhounds. They are the tallest dog breed in the world. Standing up to 37" tall at the shoulder and their heads reaching over seven feet high when on their hind legs! They are a truly ancient breed dating back to 7000BC. It's hard to describe the difference between Wolfies and other breeds. It's something you have to experience.

That said all nine of our native Irish breeds are truly exceptional canines.

Locally in Ballybunion I'm Sunflower and Fairy doors man. I grew up in Cissie Macs Toy Shop right smack bang in the middle of town. So I'm a townie.

Each year I provide FREE grown Sunflowers in painted buckets. This year it was 60x. Which was great. More than double last year's. Last year we claimed Ballybunion as the Sunflower Capital of Ireland on Radio and in local newspapers.

I also copy local childrens Sunflower art work to drab walls in town. Local businesses kindly sponsored the high quality expensive outdoors acrylic paint. About 18x painted so far with another 40+ to go over the winter.

As to Fairy doors. I gifted and sold about 100 to locals. Kilcooleys Country House Hotel sponsored my first two dozen in their garden at their fantastic hotel. I used that money to buy more paint and clear varnish and put up over a hundred more around town. The aim of which is to eventually lay claim to Ballybunion being the Fairy doors capital of the world. When I reach about three and a half gross of Fairy doors well announce that.

I've been an ardent supporter of Native Irish breed canines since the very early 90's. This started me dog grooming as we have three excellent none shedding dog breeds in Ireland. But only the Kingdom of Kerry lays claim to being the home of two dog breeds.

Soon you'll be able to spot me walking around quite easily because I'll be accompanied by an Irish Wolfhound. I intend to breed Irish Wolfhounds locally in North Kerry to help re-establish this wonderful dog breed. No other dog breed is called the King of all dogs except the Irish Wolfhound. It is the tallest, friendliest dog breed in existence. But sadly, at present there are none locally.

Winners of today's Ballybunion Fairy doors hunt.

First place went to Fionn Mulvihill - €30 cash and a gold Sunflower medal.

This year Ballybunion Sunflower club provided 60x+ Sunflowers around town. We claimed Ballybunion as the Sunflower Capital of Ireland last year.

I approached the local school during May this year and they gladly got local students to do 70x A4 Sunflower drawings. So far I have painted 18x of their drawings around town on average 2 meters high. Local businesses have sponsored the paint and I'm looking for more sponsors as I have another 40/50 Sunflower murals to paint around town.

FREE gift set for a regular customer.

At Furbabies I like to give regular customers small gifts now and again. Not just because I value your repeat custom, but because it's just nice to gift stuff.

Each Spring I gift every customer their very own Sunflower in a recycled pot with a handle for ease of transportation. I select over a dozen different Sunflower variety seeds and I write on each pot what variety they are getting so the customer knows what type of Sunflower to expect. Customers love this.

I also randomly gift doggy lucky charms, doggy breed specific keyrings and breed specific books.

It's part of the extra effort I go to.

Also every single Furbaby gets a deluxe groom but at standard rates without being charged extra.

Every Furbaby gets two shampoos. The first removes grime, dust etc. The second is then a breed/coat specific shampoo. Next they get a super deluxe coat conditioner applied for at least three minutes. I use either Aragon oil conditioner or Dezyna Dog Doodle Doo Magic formula conditioner. Expensive products without the cost being passed on to the Furbabies parent.

Puppies up to 9 or 12 months are deluxe groomed for between €15 and €25 euro. Depending on the breed/size and if your a regular or local. But all puppies get cheap super deluxe grooms so that you can truly enjoy them having long furry coats without smelling.

All clients Furbabies have the correct ear fluid applied, ears cleaned professionally, and in some cases a calming ear cleaning solution used. If theirs a health issue with your Furbabies ears I will notify you.

All shedding breeds are given a full de-shedding process which cuts coat shedding by as much as 90% for up to two months. Again, no extra charge.

Matted coats. It's only in very rare cases that I charge extra for a matted coat. I am very skilled at de-matting non-shedding coats with over 30 years experience.
Most grooming outlets do 15 minutes free de-matting. Then charge one euro per minute there after!

All customers get a five to fifteen minute free advice session on how to keep their Furbaby mat free, healthy, happy and properly mentally stimulated.

Nails. I'm very skilled at trimming nails. I use a guillotine nail snippers because it's the sharpest possible tool and doesn't twist the nail the way a scissors snippers does. I'm over 15 years grinding nails. If the quick is too long, I grind away the outer hard shell to promote faster wear on the nails. With some dogs I put them into a harness and most find this makes the process more relaxing. Some groomers skip the nails because of the extra effort involved. I don't. Black nails or overly long quicks are no hassle to me. I'm also good at shortening dew claws that have grown full circle back into the pad.

Regular customers get FREE portraits of their Furbabies wearing multiple different doggy outfits. Christmas themed, Saint Patrick's Day, Halloween, etc etc. Lot's of fun. I send on the dozen or two pictures via WhatsApp. I never take before and after pics like some groomers do to shame customers. That's not Furbabies way.

Most groomers palm off aggressive breeds or overly large dogs saying they are booked solid. My first decade as a groomer was mostly grooming Kerry Blue terriers, Soft Coated Wheaton terriers and Schnauzers. During this decade I learnt skills where by I don't need to use a muzzle. Instead the Furbaby picks up from my body language that I'm confident, experienced and that I threat them as an equal. If I'm not going to groom your Pet, I'll be honest with you and tell you why. I won't pretend I'm to busy. In fact I'm honest in all aspects.

I don't groom cats. Cat bites 50% of the time carry bacteria which travels under the skin. So I know my limitations.

Regular customers puppies up to 12 months of age.

This helps your puppy get used to being groomed. Plus it means you can enjoy your Furbaby with a longer coat while it's small.

Most clients Furbabies enjoy being groomed at Furbabies.

Also we walk clients dogs before or after their groom if the owner gives permission.

Also regular customers will have Professional Pet Portraits taken of their precious Furbabies wearing different outfits messaged to them for free after the groom.
